Every year, we film a house tour video (usually in the fall) to capture our home in that moment of time. Last year, neither our bathroom or closet was done, our bedroom was still dark, our playset was unpainted, our desk in the office was still super tall, our outdoor kitchen didn’t exist, our reading room has shifted. I didn’t know our house would progress that much in a year. And re-watching our very first house tour video, 5 years ago!!, we’ve come so far. I have linked our past tours at the bottom of the post, along with sources!

⭐️ Video: Fall 2018 House Tour
My wife and I loved the whole tour of your beautiful home, so inviting and lots of warmth to your design. We were so inspired by it. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I wanted to ask you about the title of the music used for this particular video and the name of the CD that is on. Beautiful instrumental. I truly appreciate this, thank you! By the way I’m also a bass player.

what a lovely video, your hard work & creative vision truly shows in this video – so exciting to see what is in store for the cabin! P.S I was wondering what is the square footage of your house? It seems endless!

Guys—I’m a big fan of the blog and podcast (RIP!) and you should be so pleased and impressed with yourselves. You’ve worked so hard and have such a gorgeous end product to show for it! If I was in your shoes, I’d be tempted to never move…! Starting over someplace new is exhausting to think about, haha. I hope you all can relish in this and enjoy it for many years to come. <3

Your home is just gorgeous. Such a pretty feel throughout all the rooms! LOVE IT!! When you have a chance could you please share where the gray printed pillow on the leather chair in the living room is from? I checked the shop our house but didn’t see that one. I have the same rug (LOVE), and that pillow is perfect with it! Thank you so much.

It made my heart so happy to see Willow in the same spot as Charlie at the end of the tour. Perfect.

It’s all just stunning! Question re: the bunk room – did you use a low profile mattress (or regular height mattress) for your bottom bunk? We’re a little torn right now on this, so curious what is working for you? Thx!
Chris

We used a standard height mattress from Leesa.

Thank you for sharing another tour of your beautiful home! I have to say, as much as I love seeing all of the gorgeous rooms, seeing the girls swinging on their play set was my favorite part of the video. 😀

It feels funny to nitpick on what is truly a gorgeous, finished home, but yes the cabinet doors at the bottom of the stairs!!! Paint those bad boys LOL! But seriously…. Your home is amazing, very well done.
Also, side note, your content is soooooo great and completely on point. Some of my other fave home bloggers have lost their mojo in the last 6 months or so but you guys are NAILING IT.

AUTHORAhhh! That’s so nice of you to say. I think we are doing a lot of things right now that we’re excited about and I’m happy to hear that excitement is transferring.

Originally I didn’t like the floral wallpaper for the toilet room; now that I see how everything flows from one room to the next, it works for me. I was trying to see if there’s any space undone in your house … aside from painting the cupboard doors at the bottom of the stairs white to blend with all the other cabinetry (and that’s REALLY looking hard for projects!) I couldn’t spot anything.
I especially love the dog portraits over the feeding station. You didn’t focus on that last year; was that a mini project that went unreported?
Your home looks fabulous and looks very functional for your family. I imagine as your girls grow up you’ll do some shuffling sometime in the future. And we’ll have fun watching your cabin transform.

AUTHORWe are definitely turning our focus to the cabin now, and besides a few small projects, just enjoying our home.

This home tour is EVERYTHING! I struggle to determine what I love most. You taste is impeccable and I love how there are surprises around every turn, yet they are so tastefully embedded into your aesthetic that they appear seamless. I am inspired by your use of bold artwork used along side more classic pieces and your ability to combine styles. This place is a show piece, yet it looks like LOVE lives here (and kids, and dogs)! I want to be just like clj when I grow up!!!

It’s my absolute favorite post of the year! I love these videos! Have you ever thought about redoing the egress windows? To be more tiered, therefore letting in more natural light to the basement bedrooms? Your house is always so inspiring!

Hi Chris and Julia! Have you ever done a post about your doggie door? I’m intrigued. I’m in northern Indiana, and always assumed I couldn’t pull one off in colder climate. I’d love to hear your recommendations!
Julia

AUTHORI wrote one forever ago and then never posted it because I could hear it turning into a security discussion. We have a large dog door leading into the garage and then one from the garage to the backyard. It’s honestly so so nice and our dogs have been happily independent because of it. Also, having it lead into an insulated/heated garage instead of straight outside really cuts down on draftiness.

Can’t wait to see the cabin progress. Thanks for inspiring us!

Anyone else watch these for a Willow sighting? 😂😂😂 Such a lovely home. Curious about next years to do list as for me the house is done. Didn’t even notice the doors downstairs!

I had to go back and watch all the videos since I’ve only been following you for about a year – WOW! The house has come so far, and looks so good. I had to laugh at your tiny duvet cover in the 2014 video in the master. It’s probably the first thing you would point out today to change in a room!

I love seeing these as it shows just how far you can come in a year and exactly how everything flows together.
Two nosy questions:
1) What’s behind the oak doors at the bottom of the stairs? We have one door like this that still needs to be painted in our place and I think today is the day!
2) What’s behind the door next to the guitars?
Julia
AUTHORGood questions! The oak cabinet is our game cabinet! All of our board games, puzzles and old DVDs are all in there–we actually don’t even have a DVD player anymore, except in the car, so we keep them for the car. Haha. The door next to the guitars is our furnace room.

So much great inspiration in the video. Special nod to your videographer; he has a great style and steady hand!
Sidebar question: I went back and looked at your 1-year pictures and noticed the doorbell was pretty prominent in the entry, and now it’s gone. did you remove it or relocate it? Partly curious, partly hoping you did something genius I’ll be able to use in the future. Thanks!
Julia

AUTHORwe took it out completely! I don’t want anyone ringing my doorbell. But now they have so many that don’t need wired if we ever want to have one again.

Wow! The house has come so far. Every time I see the home tour video though, I want the old wood/oak doors at the bottom of the stairs to be painted. Seems like one of the only original wood tones still left in the house. That said, everything else is amazing! Your bathroom remodel this year seriously made me want to do ours now that I have finished our kitchen!

Love the lived in touches–like laundry in the machine and it looks as if someone just left their comfy chair to go refill their drink…hold fast to these “lived in” touches on your blog and accounts for it’s your diy beginnings that many of us are here for. We like knowing you’re real and capable. Thank you for being the Marcums!

PS: it’s refreshing and relevant to know that you buy clothes from places like target and old navy, buy the knock-off version of something just because you too experience tight funds, and one time you mentioned you felt your were too late to jump on the basket wall bandwagon…well I say “do it!” even if you feel you’re a little slow on the trend…that too makes you relevant and real!
