We recently painted the trim and hallway doors the most dramatic shade of red, and I find myself making excuses to pass through this part of our house. It’s so rich and romantic and glossy and inspiring. It’s like the hallway is wearing lipstick. She’s feeling herself :) I can barely remember what it looked like before.

As a reminder, we’re incorporating the same “Preference Red” from Farrow & Ball in our mudroom (mood board above). The hallway doors lead into this room, and it’s like we’re already rolling out the red carpet.
This isn’t my first red era. In our last house, we painted our music room “Fading Twilight” from Benjamin Moore. This one is more muted, with violet and brick undertones, and I loved how classic and timeless it looks. Like a room from museum.

I especially love how this paint color transformed in different light, at different times of day, from different sides of the room.
Roman Clay: Portola Paints Meritage | Trim: Meritage in Satin Enamel | Bathroom Sources
Just before Christmas, we painted the upstairs bathroom with Roman Clay — a beautiful color called “Meritage” from Portola Paints. It’s so burgundy and Old World and beautiful. Roman Clay was harder than I thought it would be! But I’m already dying to do this somewhere else in our house.
If you’re also in your red era, but not quite ready to pull the trigger on paint — I’m rounding up some favorite pops of red to populate your home. ‘Tis the season, after all.
1. Talasa Tray – Chinese Red $195 – This would be so beautiful on a dresser to collect rings and earrings.
2. CLJ x Lola Blanket Raisin $109 – Only the baby size is stock, but the other two sizes will be restocking within the next few weeks!
3. Red Velvet Curtains $33 – My go-to velvet curtains from Amazon. I’ve used the black and mustard gold, but now I’m eyeing the red…
4. The Battenbergs Wall Art $258 – I keep making up stories about the woman in this print.
5. Cameo Red Storage Bookcase $1,499 – This reminds me of the deep red cabinetry we’re currently installing in the mudroom.
6. Red Zebras Wallpaper $47 – Bold is beautiful.
7. Edie Two-Tier 8 Light Chandelier $875 – We just installed this in our dining room, and the pop of red against the cool gray wallpaper and trim is the contrast I’ve been craving for that space.
8. Dalton Brown Suede and Metal Dome Table Lamp $269 – If you don’t yet have a “study” in your house, you will after buying this lamp.
9. Floral Lamp Shade $98 I’m so obsessed with this pleated lamp shade. It captures my attention every time I see it.
10. Dark Red Branches $10 – Bring on the drama.
11. CLJ x Walli Vivienne Maroon Phone Case $37 – Currently on sale!
12. CLJ x Loloi Jules Merlot/Multi Rug $153 – This rug is one of our most popular, and the rust merlot red goes with everything.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
