We used the same plank-style black walnut in our laundry room and extended it up the backsplash and I am obsessed with the warmth it adds to the room. A few coats of waterlox and we haven’t had to do another thing to it!

You may remember we used a light butcher block in the Pittsburgh kitchen–also from Craft Art. Here we used the White Oak Plank Style. In the photo below, they were not sealed, and have darkened a bit since applying the sealer.

The great thing about butcher block is it can be made to look new time after time after time if you want it to. Or, you can embrace the patina that comes with life. We actually choose not to cut directly on ours, but love to use it to roll out dough. Recently we refinished our island (after 2 years) because one of the girls’ spilled some super glue on it. And it looked like new again.
