With fall on the rise, I’ve been turning my attention toward updating my wardrobe for the cooler months. Specifically, I’ve been shopping for a few great pairs of boots to add to my burgeoning shoe collection, and I think I found more than a few goodies. Since I love seeing a mix of styles — and I thought you would too — I recruited the CLJ team to help find the best fall boots the 2023 season has to offer. Everyone shopped for their favorite pair of boots, and they have been wearing them about, and good news! The reviews are in. It’s a win-win because my team makes the best recommendations, plus you’ll get a glimpse of their personalities!
Psst! You’ll notice we’re still a team of mostly women, but the men certainly delivered. Scroll down to see.
Okay, before I get ahead of myself, we have to talk about socks. Not every pair of boots needs a visible pair of socks, but I do love a cute sock moment peeking out at the top. Here are some of my favorite cozy socks you could wear with your new boots!
When I think of Fall, I want all things comfy and cozy!! And these little UGG boots are just that! I’ve already been wearing them nonstop and know that will continue into the winter months.

Western attire is certainly having its moment, and I’m not mad about it whatsoever. I got these boots during the Nordstrom sale in July, and I’ve received a hundred compliments on them since. They come in 4 different colorways, but are you even surprised I went with the black and white?
-Julia
The scalloped trim and studded sole details on these boots are so cute, and you could wear them with pretty much any outfit. Chelsea boots are my type of boots, so I also got this pair from SOREL, which are more fit for harsh weather. Love them both.
-Chloe, Social Media Manager
I’ve been eyeballing these boots since last year! I’m all about adding versatile, staple pieces in my wardrobe that can go with pretty much anything, and these boots check all my boxes. The quality is great, plus they’re lightweight and comfy! Pssst, they come in 7 different colors!
-Missy, Editorial Manager
I love a “low-cut” bootie, something with a little ankle cleavage — and a pointed toe to elongate my legs. These gold snakeskin boots fit the bill, and even though they’re flashy, they go with everything: black denim and a blazer, dress pants and a tuxedo top, and even joggers and a denim jacket. Also, they’re so comfy that I forgot to take them off when I got home from work!
-Victoria, Brand Manager
I haven’t worn knee-high boots since college, when I paired them with a mini skirt. When I saw these on Anthropologie, it was the “knee-high brown boot” completely re-envisioned as an elevated, luscious suede all the way down to the heel. I could see myself wearing it with flowy date night pants and feminine fall dresses–and I plan to do just that! (Sized up in order to zip up 🤫)

I truly believe every fall wardrobe needs a platform boot. I love the two-tone tan colors, and the height is perfect to pair with some cropped jeans. I’m going to New York in December and will absolutely be packing these because they’re SO comfortable.

If you’re looking for even more boot options, here’s a list of 16 amazing styles you can expect to see this 2023 season.
Every guy needs a nice, tall, versatile boot, and these boots from Portland Leather are stunning. Wear them with jeans or dress them up with a pair of chinos and a button-up. They really are for any occasion.
-Brandon, Head of Collaborations
I have a few dress boots that I love for special occasions, but when it comes to day-to-day wearing, I don’t like anything that’s going to make my feet hot. I love these canvas low boots because they feel like a good pair of sneakers but are easy to dress up or down. You can also wear some thick, patterned socks if you need a little more insulation.
-Chris
Coming from the snowy Wasatch Mountains, a good pair of Sorel’s has always been welcome in the late Fall and Winter months. These boots are very comfortable and warm. They’re fleece-lined and waterproof, plus the sole has good traction and great padding. I wouldn’t say they’re a year-round boot, but they’re definitely a practical and stylish boot for colder months.

The men might be fewer in number, but they have great taste. Here are their 12 top picks for men’s boots:
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
