Up to this point, I’ve always shot the weekly paintings in our green reading room, but this week’s looked so perfect against the backdrop of the Hale Navy walls in the hall bath.
The addition of gold this week helped this whole painting come together. I bought four or five different metallic gold paints to test before I settled on one that I finally really liked. In the mirror’s reflection in the photo above, you can see a painting I did of a woman wearing a large gold necklace. I used probably 10 different hues speckled in to create the illusion of gold and I am so tempted to go back and add a few strokes of this gold paint to make it shimmer in just the right light. I don’t know the rule about that. Can an artist go back to their paintings years later? It doesn’t feel right, but it is so tempting at times.
Sprung is 20″ square, slightly smaller than the previous paintings (smaller price tag, too!). I am trying to force myself to work with different colors and formats as the weeks go on. The project is about evolving and I feel like this painting stretched me in so many good ways. And they payoff was worth it, in my opinion. I’m loving the colors together and the overall movement. Psst. Happy Valentine’s day. Love you. Take 15% off all giclee prints using code XOXO15 today through February 20th.
As a reminder, I will be producing one painting a week and presenting that painting here on Fridays. It will also be available for purchase in my Etsy shop. We schedule our posts to go live first thing in the morning here, but the paintings will mostly be listed late Thursday nights, so to get a first look (or dibs!) at each painting, it wouldn’t be a horrible idea to add the shop to your favorites on Etsy. Fear not if you miss snagging the original, high quality giclee prints are available!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

The next project we’re checking off our 2023 project list is the mudroom! This used to be the laundry room until we built out a much bigger, better laundry room upstairs. So, in the meantime, this space has been exclusively Cricket’s room. Cricket will still have a special space here, but we’re transforming this dingy […]

Thanks, that’s great! I assumed I was just a ditz. :) Ordering now!
Love this one! Hope you’ll have print versions available for this one too. :)
I just added them to the etsy shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChrisLovesJulia
Aw man. I just went to get this one and another and it said the promo code expired, I understood it as being valid through today too. Shoot.
It’s fixed, Ashley!! Sorry about that.
That is absolutely gorgeous! I love it!
Very pretty, kind of reminds me of a darker version of Georgia O’Keefe’s “Calla Lily”.
Wow! I LOVE this one. I love all your work but I can’t wait for this to be available as a giclee!
You are so talented! Absolutely beautiful. :)
Love this!!!
This one is so beautiful. I love how different this one looks, but it still has your same technique. I can’t wait to see how your paintings transform over the year! What a cool project.
Rules shmules. It’s your painting you can do whatever you want to with it. I remember reading about an artist that would sneak into either galleries or museums to “adjust” his paintings. I can’t remember if it was a true story or not but I thought that was hilarious as well as subversive. As to your latest painting, it is my favorite so far. I love the sense of movement in this one.
Hahaha! I love that story.
