On January 1, our family grew — my sister, Andi, welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Gigi. She has lots of dark hair and cute little Cupid’s bow lips, and we’re all rather taken with her. I’ve been chomping at the bit to design another nursery (Last year, we made-over a nursery for our dear friends, the Fullmers), and Andi, who already has excellent taste, had a lot of great ideas: She likes dramatic purples, creams, and yellows; pieces with a lot of traditional charm; and soft, feminine touches. Here’s what I’m thinking for a mood board:
The crib, the dresser, light fixture, shadowbox frame, swaddles and the chair are all part of our CLJ x Pottery Barn Kids collection. I especially love the turned wood details — I think this adds a rich, traditional accent that feels really timeless. The glider and ottoman have a curved silhouette and come with lots of upholstery options, but I love the simplicity of the white/cream on this mood board.
The mirror is also from our Pottery Barn Kids collection, and I love it because it’s gilded and substantial and feels like it was plucked directly from a fairy forest. (Faye currently has the same mirror in her bedroom, but I could see it hanging in almost any room in our house.)
Andi chose one of my favorite rugs from our Loloi collection: This “Rosemarie” rug is antique-inspired with lots of subtle lavender and oatmeal loomed throughout.
Initially, I really thought that we should do two-tone paint: perhaps the the bottom in a deeper purple, and the top in a light lilac? But the mood board was feeling a little flat to me. I thought we could cover all the walls with a gallery of handsome art prints, but this room has a bit of an odd shape. There might be six or 7 walls. Wallpaper does wonders for rooms like this. It really ties everything together and makes it look and feel cozy. And when you wallpaper, you don’t need much else on the walls!
I looked at so many wallpapers. I didn’t want a pattern with purple in it, but one that could compliment the deep plum of the wainscoting — something that had a separate vibe altogether. I found this beautiful floral wallpaper, and it really clicked for me. It was such a beautiful backdrop to all of the other elements in the room and on the mood board.
I really love book ledges because they bring in another pattern and tone, and they also feel really lovely and feminine.
The cloud pieces are actually wall art that light up! This is a nice whimsical touch for a nursery, and I like thinking of the soft glow they’ll emit at night, when it’s bedtime, and everything is quiet and peaceful.
The baskets are actually a double take for the laundry basket in Faye’s room! They’re one of my favorite finds for this room, and I see Andi using these for extra diapers and toys.
The butter-yellow curtains are room darkening, and I also included a blackout roman shade. This is essential for any baby’s room. (Night training starts early!)
We ordered everything you see here, and the last pieces are scheduled to arrive in the next two weeks, so stay tuned as we bring this little girl’s room to life! In the meantime, Chris and I are going to get painting ASAP. (Painting mixed with baby snuggles, of course.)
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

Congratulations! I love the purple completely.
That purple color is such a dream! It’s so similar to the color I had in my room growing up and I loved rocking my babies for naps in that room whenever we would visit. This is such an elevated look though with the warm wood tones and the florals. You definitely haven’t lost your magic touch!
That wallpaper looks so much better on your mood board with the purple than it does in the sample–can’t wait to see the finished room!
This is such a pretty room! I’ve always loved that rug and have dreamed about using it in my home office.
What a gorgeous purple color! You definitely have been flexing your design muscle. What a well put together design that will grown with that little cutie pie!
That fresh baby. There is nothing like it. My niece had a baby girl 3 days ago, and I’ve been wondering am I reaaaalllly done having babies or should we add another before time runs out, haha! I hope you all are having the most special time putting this nursery together.
That design muscle has really been working! This looks great Julia!
I’m in love!!! What a cozy, fabulous room!
