When I was growing up, we’d visit my Grandma, who kept a cowbell in the kitchen. Whenever dinner was ready, she’d ring the bell, and it would clang loud enough to let those in her third floor bedrooms know that there was food on the table. The sound became Pavlovian for me, and now when I hear a loud brass bell — I associate it with food and family. Chris and I have had one in each of our homes, and I love that ours is wall-mounted. I love even more that we don’t have to yell up the steps to call the girls for dinner. One ring of the bell, and they come running!

Sadly, ours is no longer sold, but I round up a few others below!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Our family just yells “ring a ding ding” (but really to the tune of what does the fox say….don’t pretend you do not know the song). This may have inspired me to make our home slightly classier and add a physical bell. Lovely post as usual.
I love this! One day when I’m past the tiny-baby-who-is-hopefully-sleeping-while-I-prep-dinner stage of life, I definitely want a dinner bell!
My sister-in-law has a dinner gong, and that is quite an experience…
Hello! I am loving your blog and this post! It’s inspired me to get my mother in law an engraved wall-mounted dinner bell as a gift. I just know she would love it! I was curious what the diameter of your dinner bell pictured above is? It looks like the perfect for a nook in her kitchen. & Thanks so much for providing such an amazing inspiring site!
We never had a bell (how cute!), but growing up our neighbor had an Ox horn that he would blow everytime it was time for dinner or to come in for the night. It was incredibly loud! Lol. He only meant to call his kids back home, but we all responded. Probably made it easier for the rest of the parents….no need to worry when we were coming back. We could hear that horn a mile away.
