Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Some years I’m so eager to deck the halls, and some years it seems like an overwhelming feat. This year was one of the latter, BUT, we made a day of it with the help of our team and before we knew it, the house was dripping in garland and bows. We didn’t make many changes from years past (see Christmas 2022 and Christmas 2021), but I really leaned into the classic and traditional vibes. To inspire the holiday spirit, I thought we would take a tour of Christmas around the house, starting at the front door!

Psst, if you’re looking for Christmas decor inspo, don’t forget to visit The Holiday Shoppe!

Christmas in the Front Entry

Garland | Bells (similar) | Blue Ribbon

I love a really droopy garland swagged on the grand staircase. It’s super low effort but high impact, especially with the bells and floppy bows tied with the prettiest blue ribbon.

Credenza | Vase (similar) | Faux Stem | Standing Wreath | Coffee Table Books | Bench | Wall Mirror | Sconces

I kept the hallway credenza super simple with my favorite black nativity stacked atop coffee table books surrounded by a few other simple Christmas decor pieces.

Christmas in the Study

Into the study! We set up our flocked Christmas tree that’s about six years old and after all this time it’s still a stunner.

Christmas in the Living Room

This is where all the Christmas morning magic will happen, and it’s the room I’m most proud of! In past years, we’ve set up the 12 ft Christmas tree, but it takes up quite a bit of space and overwhelms the flow of things. And so, I opted for this simple flocked tree and doesn’t it all feel so wintery and fresh?

Mirror | Chandelier | Boucle Chairs | Woven Ottomans | Rug | Blue Velvet Sofa | Leather Armchairs | Linen Sofa | CLJ x Lola Blanket | Side Table | Frame | Floor Lamp | Vase (similar) | Faux Stems

Per my excitement over Christmas decor trends, I placed the tree in a basket rather than using a tree skirt. It’s practical and stylish and a great way to cheat a few extra inches if you’ve got the height to spare.

Flocked Tree | Pot | Paper Snowflakes | Beaded Garland | Candle Ornaments | Stockings | Stocking Holders | Brass Garland | Blue Ribbon | Garland | Flameless Candles | Brass Candlesticks

I kept the mantel decor super simple by stringing faux eucalyptus garland paired with my favorite “Merry Christmas” garland and hung the stockings with care! Would you believe me if I told you the tapered candles on the mantel aren’t real? They’re beyond lifelike, flicker like a flame, and are operated with a little remote!

Coffee Table | Coffee Table Books | Marble Links | Candle | Book Stand | Brass Bells | White Bowl | Silver Trees

The coffee table is always a great opportunity for styling your Christmas collectibles.

Curio Cabinet | Potted Trees | Ceramic Houses | Metal Trees | Snowman | Nativity (vintage) | Scalloped Bowl | Glass Ornaments | Bistro Table | Floor Lamp | Velvet Lamp

I packed the curio cabinet full of even more collectibles, including our precious nativity set that we’ve had for years.

Decorating tip: fill a bowl with ball ornaments and put it on display!

Christmas in the Dining Room

Ceramic House | Coffee Table Books | Lamp (vintage) | Table (vintage) | Candle

In preparation for Thanksgiving, Chris helped me hang these family photos in the dining room, along with the wall sconces, and it suddenly feels so much more put together!

Dining Table | Dining Chairs (vintage) | Vase | Faux Stems | Marble Cake Stand | Tapers | Wallpaper | Chandelier | Gallery Wall | Taper Sconces

I always say that the best way to decorate seasonally is to put out a bowl of seasonal fruit, and I can’t think of anything more fitting than oranges to ring in the season.

Christmas in the Kitchen

Table Top Tree | Chair | Sweater | Leather Desk Mat | Brass Bell | Task Lamp | Window Candle

If you’re not already decorating the kitchen with Christmas decor, this is your sign to start!

Wreath | Gingerbread House | Tree Candles | Rolling Pin | Copper Kitchen Aid | Gingerbread Mugs | Pepper Mill | Copper Pots | Copper Canisters

Every year, I look forward to decorating one of my favorite corners in my home—the kitchen shelves! This year, I pulled out all the kitschy Christmas decor I had and styled a little moment, and I’m obsessed. There’s just something so nostalgic about gingerbread houses and Santa ceramics, don’t you think?

Brass Pull | Brass Knobs | Brass Lamp | Bowl | Tree (similar)

Christmas in the Bonus Room

Garland | Ribbon | Floor Lamp | Side Table | CLJ x Lola Blanket | Lumbar Pillow | Accordion Tree

Year after year, the bonus room continues to be one of my favorite Christmasy decorated spaces. The decor amidst the blue walls and plaid patterned pillows is intimate and cozy.

Leather Chair (vintage) | Rug | Ottoman (similar) | Basket | Console Table (similar) | Bottlebrush Trees | Coffee Table Books | Sconce

Wreath | Couch | Tree | Tree Stand | Ribbon | Advent Calendar | Train

Since we spend a lot of time up here as a family, it only made sense to deck the halls with bows and ribbons rather than precious ornaments and keepsakes.

Christmas in the Kids’ Rooms

Bed Frame | Pillows | Sheets | Quilt | Artwork (similar) | Dresser | Tabletop Tree | Roman Shades

This is the first year that I spread some Christmas cheer in the kids’ rooms and it won’t be the last.

Wallpaper | Shadowbox Frames | Flocked Tree | Blue Chair | Rug | Nightstand (similar) | Lamp | Doll (similar)

You don’t have to go all out to make it feel special. All you need is one small tree or a strand of simple garland.

Bed Frame | Rug | Lola Blanket | Knit Pillow Ball | Garland | Knit Stocking | Bells | Lamp | Lampshade | Nightstand | Curtains | Artwork

We decorated the house for Christmas right before Thanksgiving, and I will say it made our Thanksgiving day with family feel so special and intimate. I tend to take down all the Christmas decorations before New Year’s, so it’s especially nice to get to enjoy the decorations all month long.

Happy Holidays!

Beautiful! Your home looks festive and cozy. You have given me ideas to use in my own home and I thought I was finished with my Christmas decorating! Thank you for sharing. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

  5. Michelle says:

It’s just lovely. Especially including the kids rooms. Thank you for the work and helping us live vicariously. I’ve never had a grand staircase, or even a modest one that allowed a garland, but every year I soak in the eye candy of pictures like these.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
