Our new dining light is here and it’s perfect in it’s simplicity. I knew I wanted a large globe light–they’re classic and even a little vintage feeling. My grandma had 4 white globe lights hanging over her island in her kitchen and I remember even as a child thinking how cool they were. In my search, I struggled finding one with the right scale to hang above our large round table until I stumbled upon this 16″ globe light from Schoolhouse! It comes in two finishes and a bunch of sizes but the largest, the 16″, was just right. At night, it glows in the best way. Although that could partially be the lack of having any light here for the past few weeks talking. (On second thought, no–it’s really perfect.)
16″ is really substantial. Substantial enough to carry an entire dining table on its own (even more so in real life, honestly!), but I rounded up a bunch with a similar vibe at different price points in case you might not need one that large. (we have #8!)
Other fun things this week
• I wore these low-cut cognac booties this week and you all went crazy over them! They are knockoffs of these Madewell ones, but just a cute imo. (They run tts).
• Kind of want to DIY this doormat stat!
• “If you’re designing in a basement, I feel like it’s often better to just lean in to what the space wants anyway; go ahead and embrace the dark. No point painting it a sunny yellow.” Couldn’t agree more.
• brb, never taking this off. (I got the olive in small)
• Everyone sent me this photo and all I can say is can’t wait!
• This week we launched our very first weekly e-newsletter–Love Letter. It’s been a dream of ours to put this together for awhile and I’m so happy it’s finally here. It’s filled with exclusive content and goes out to our email list every Wednesday night. You can subscribe for free right here.
• This week, we’ve been a little MIA as we poured 12+ hour days into a really amazing video shoot with a large brand. They arrived Sunday and we wrapped Wednesday night. It was so. much. work. but a really great experience, too. We can’t say much more, but someone did capture this behind the scenes below. The concept was so cool and the team (I swear there were 20 people at our house) was so talented. We can’t wait to share more hopefully next month!!
Hope you all have a great weekend! Chris and I are headed to Park City for some much needed R&R, and to work on our secret handshake. ;)
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

We recently painted our study a dark, moody green color. This is after we first painted it a muddy green, then repainted it a blue-gray. I guess what they say is true; third time’s a charm! The journey was worth it, though, because I’m so in love with this glossy green in contrast with the […]

Can you share the fixture length you went with for the light? Ive been looking at globe pendants too but can never decide how low it should hang..
That basement bathroom is beautiful!
The new light looks great in your space. I’d be interested in a round up of plug-in pendants for those of us that don’t have an option to hard wire. We currently have an IKEA plug-in light over our dining table which does the job but isn’t very stylish. The first pendant you have on the list is a plug-in but the shade is plastic. Would love to see some CLJ picks!
Ok the globe with the gold detail at the top is fabulous. It makes it modern but yes I totally agree that they’re a bit vintage to begin with. Can’t wait to hear about your big brand announcement!
You shared your office lounge chairs on IG but I can’t find it saved. Would you mind sharing the link again?
I love this, large globes are my favorite!
I want a great big paper lantern for my living room, but I can’t find a fixture for it… the hardwired part that comes out of the ceiling, does that make sense? Do you know where I can find a nice one? I’m guessing that I haven’t found anything because I’m putting in the wrong search term!
Hey Esvee, you might check out Color Cord! I’m sure you can get these components for cheaper at Home Depot or Lowes, but they have really cute options and make it very easy. I found this hardwired / “ready for shade” pendant: https://www.colorcord.com/collections/pendant/products/shade-ready-single-ceiling-pendant?variant=13601440596070
It’s called a pendant light fixture. Ikea has them in both hardwired and plug in styles. This is one of the styles they have https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20410341/ after you wire it into place you just unscrew the plastic ring from the socket piece, put your paper shade up onto the socket, screw the plastic ring back up into place (this secures the shade to the socket), screw in the bulb and it’s good to go! Ikea also has a great selection of shades as well. The nicest thing about that style pendant fixture is how easily you can change out the shade!
I really like the look of your kitchen eating area. The lamp looks great!
Are you getting used to the look of the windows now that they are painted black, with the white walls and trim? And no drapes to hid the outdoors really helps. If so, does this change the timeline of renovation with the window replacements being delayed? We still have warm weather, but I guess you’ll start seeing colder weather pretty soon, but when do you start seeing snow?
We are doing the windows in phases so it’s not a huge expense all up front. But this is definitely getting us excited for black windows!!
The texture on the ceiling around the light looks so cool! It almost looks like a medallion around the fixture. Would love to see a close up of it!
I love this light, but I have shied away from 1 bulb fixtures because they don’t seem to provide enough light.
Your space seems large, so I was surprised you used this fixture. Can you share what type of bulb you are using?
I appreciate it. Thanks.
It’s all about making sure you have enough lumens. This is a 1600 lumens bulb! Works great
The funny funny thing about the basement comment, our WHOLE basement is BRIGHT yellow!!! 1200sq ft.- 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and main living space, stairway leading down. All of it! I can’t wait to tackle that after we paint our judges paneling in the living room.
I can’t wait to see your secret handshake ???? ????
I have that light in my sunroom (in all white) and really love it. It’s v. Big, but simple.
I have this same light fixture in the kitchen of my (very old) house. Mine is nickel and I didn’t think I liked it, but seeing yours in brass and gold is making me want to grab some spray paint!
Brass & black**
I messaged you on insta about this, but I’m sure your DMs get crazy so I thought I would comment too.
I have noticed lately that when you post sponsored content to your stories, you almost always try to hide the mandatory sponsorship disclosure in the background by matching the text color to blend it in. It feels deceptive to viewers. Many other content creators do this as well, and it is frustrating as a loyal reader to feel like bloggers you love are trying to hide sponsorships from you. It is 2019, sponsored content is common and for the most part people don’t mind anymore. Especially since you’ve partnered with Lowe’s for so long and the content you put out with them is consistently awesome. It is things like this, and other attempts to conceal sponsorships, that upset viewers.
Please don’t feel that this is an attack, it is a genuine frustration from a long time follower of yours. I hope you consider the perspective!
I am proud to sponsor with the brands we do! Otherwise I would say no. I am also careful and mindful to follow FTC guidelines. Definitely am not meaning to conceal sponsors–i think everyone knows we have been a Lowe’s partner for 4 years now! :)
Agreed!
