• Idaho got really cold this week–30s and 40s most days. Those first brisk days are always fun (ask me again in January–ooof), but when we were getting bundled to go to our first pumpkin patch of the year, I started panicking when I realized none of the girls had boots or coats that fit them! We made do with lots of layers, but that evening I settled in and ordered a bunch of cozy clothes and coats and boots for the girls–which is actually 10x more fun than buying clothes for myself. Because our girls grow so fast, I always look to H&M, Gymboree, Old Navy and Target first. I found so much cute stuff I had to share in case you find yourself in the same boat as I was earlier this week.

• Thank you so much for all your well-wishes, thoughts, and prayers in my behalf around my health recently. This week I feel like I turned a corner (knock on all the wood) and am starting to feel more like myself than I have in months. My new medicine seems to be working and I have started religiously following the diet outlined in this book–including 16oz of straight celery juice every morning. It’s a kicker but I feel like it’s working so it’s really motivating me to stick to it. I answered a slew of questions about Hashimoto’s and more about all of this in a Q&A on Instagram stories this week. If you’re interested, I saved it to my highlights here.
•. These tone on tone on tone sage green adidas are coming home with me.
• We have this interesting bathroom at the cabin with floor-to-ceiling black marble tile in the shower and poop-brown walls. Every time anyone walks in, they assume it’s a complete gut job, but I always thought just some paint would improve it greatly. This bathroom by @melaniemorrisinteriors I came across this week has me excited about the possibility!
• Every month, we share a video recap of our previous month doing all the things you don’t see. The things beyond DIY and projects. You can watch our sweet September right here.
We have a bonus post (and a challenge!) coming at you tomorrow. Which also happens to be Chris’s 35th birthday! So we’re going to do this weekend right. Hope you have a great weekend, too!

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Glad to hear you are feeling better Julia. That bathroom inspo pic is perfect…love its moodiness. Looking forward to seeing what you do at the cabin. Happiest of birthdays to Chris!
Glad that you are feeling better Julia! Happiest Birthday to Chris! My husband (also Chris) turns 40 this month and I’m so excited to surprise him with a fun vacation next week. Hope y’all have a fabulous weekend.
I noticed in Chris’s cooking videos, you use a bottle with a cap for olive oil, not a typical oil dispenser. Where did you get that… I love the look of it, and that it’s not always open like my BB&B oil dispenser.
It’s from Montes Doggett. It’s actually a water carafe but Chris took the stopper out of one of his old olive oil bottles and it fit perfectly.
So glad you’re feeling better! Thanks for all of the inspiration. You’re one of my favorites!
