Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Why isn’t Fall cleaning more of a thing? There’s so much emphasis around Spring Cleaning, but for me, the urgency, appreciation and desire for a deep cleaned house comes stronger in the fall. With all the holidays and house guests right around the corner, I love to buckle down in October and get my house singing before Thanksgiving hits.

I love to clean. I have since I was a little girl when I would wear a shower cap and a belt to house all my cleaning supplies and do cleaning shows in the bathroom mirror. Ha! But even with my love of cleaning, when I start looking around and thinking of everything that needs done and everything I’d love to tackle before the holidays hit, I get overwhelmed. So this year, I’ve decided to take it day by day and made a calendar with just one task to do every day (except Sundays) starting Monday (October 15) through the Saturday before Thanksgiving (November 15th) so we can take that week to focus on the menu and family. There’s 30 chores in all (some are really simple, like making checking the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and some are a little more involved, like dusting the tops of all the doors (I ALWAYS forget about that) and washing them down. I’d love for you to join in! You can download and print the calendar yourself right here!

And you know how when you need extra motivation to get to the gym, a new pair of workout pants helps? (just me?!) Right now, through SUNDAY–that’s tomorrow!– everything from eBay’s Dyson store is discounted and you can take an additional 25% off with the code JUSTDYSON at checkout. We took advantage by buying a second Dyson Vacuum for upstairs so we can keep our Dyson Animal tucked in the basement. And maybe I’ll finally get another handheld since I can’t stop using the one we originally got for the car all over the house. I vacuum curtains and blinds with it, crumbs on the counter, inside of our kitchen cabinets, the upholstery!

Let me know if you’re joining our fall cleaning challenge! You can shop some of my favorite Dyson and cleaning supplies (100 magic erasers for 10 dollars!) available on eBay below. Over 80% of products on eBay are Buy It Now (no bidding or waiting to purchase) and over 60% offer free shipping. It’s truly become one of the first places I check when scouting the best deals.

What do you think?

I am planning to get some Beni Ourain rugs (over 1” high). Do you have any deep pile/shag rugs or carpets? If so how does the Dyson handle on those? Thanks!

  2. Laura Davis says:

I love that many of these work from the top down. Very efficient!

  3. Paula says:

    “everything that needs done”

    So Pittsburgh!!

Anyway, this is great and I’m looking forward to using it!

  4. Laurna says:

What do use to clean grout lines especially when it starts to discolor?

  5. Heather says:

What do you use to clean the tile in your shower?

  6. Linda Grubbs says:

    I’m gonna do it!
Thanks so much for the little push!! ????

  7. Linda Grubbs says:

I’m doin’ it…. thanks for the incentive!!! ????

  8. Rebecca H says:

I’m done!! I have also decided that we have WAY too many light fixtures in this house. I can’t tell if I love you or hate that you created this list. ???? Thanks for helping me feel a little more organized though. Here’s to tomorrow’s task.

  9. Amber says:

Our baby’s guess date is Thanksgiving day and this is THE PERFECT cleaning calendar to satisfy my nesting urges and get our house baby ready! Thank you!

  10. Jackie says:

I love this and am def joining in! One tast a day feels so much more attainable then just saying “I need to deep clean the house” and I love checking things off so this is great and we should do it again after the holidays! Thanks!

  11. Audrey says:

Love this post! Have you used those magic erasers? That’s such a good deal but Iworry about buying generic sometimes. Thanks!!!

  12. Min says:

Haha I use the one meant for the car, inside the house as well. It’s so handy for quickly doing stairs!

  13. Julie says:

This is my usual routine hence the name @365daysofdetailcleaning. The more you do it the easier it gets. I do a detail job every day except Sunday. I rest on Sunday. Doing a job a day means my house is almost always party/guest ready.

  14. Mary Bristol says:

Love this calendar/task I won’t use it this year because we are in the midst of moving but I plan to keep it for future use. Thanks so much foryour making it manageable!

  15. Sarah says:

My partner and I recently decided upon a new cleaning schedule- every week one of us deep cleanes one room using a pre-set list of chores, resulting in each room being cleaned thoroughly every three weeks. I’ve been told multiple times that my chore list is intense, but you’ve just given me some ideas! I don’t think I’ve ever done some of the things you suggest, thanks for the inspiration ????

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
