On our very first date, we were in college and Chris picked me up and we went to the grocery store to get ingredients to make dinner together. He made a spicy chicken alfredo. Afterward, he melted a bunch of caramels and we dipped apples and played Scrabble and had so much laughing and getting to know each other. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we wanted to highlight one of our favorite things to STILL do on a date night in…Play games! Chris and I love a good game night, and there’s nothing like finding a great new game (our current fav is Play Nine).
We asked some of our favorite Instagram couples to share their favorite couple games and we are so excited to introduce them to you!
The pandemic gave us LOTS of time to play games just the two of us. We’ve got two favorites! For our old school favorite, we love a good game of chess. So nerdy, I know, but it’s fun to see how each other strategizes and it’s such a relaxing game to play on a rainy afternoon. Our second favorite is Heads Up, which is basically a guessing game where one player holds a phone to their forehead and the other player has to shout out words (or do movements) to describe the phrase on the phone. It’s a great time to be goofy together, and there’s a “record” option that lets you record each other’s reactions, which can be really fun to watch back together and send to our group text with our bffs.
Stevie and I love Catch Phrase! It’s one of the first games we ever played together and still one of our faves. I like how our competitive nature comes out when we have to think quick on our feet. We love picking the hard categories and we never get tired of it! We’ve turned it into a two player game for our cozy nights in just the two of us!
Okay hear me out, BATTLESHIP!! We get intense, competitive, laugh so freaking hard!!! Like the comebacks are the best, and we have a streak going on!
NAME THAT DRIVER! When we are driving in the car and passing someone we both take one look at the person and count to 3 and say what we think their name is. We always end up laughing so hard and one time we even said the same name and about died. Play Nine in the only board or card game I can get him to play with me.
We love dominos and play with our boys weekly. Also easy for young ones to learn early. Other wise we play Gin like an old couple and love Monopoly Deal!
Our favorite game to play together is Yahtzee! Followed by Phase 10. Usually we go for Phase 10 when we are playing with a group, but for sure Yahtzee! is our go to. We love that it’s quick and fun and there’s no real strategy. It’s just the luck of the dice! You can’t manipulate the game:) We get super competitive, though, so all bets are off when we start playing. We even like to take it with us when we go camping or when we travel.
We love pickleball! It’s a relatively new thing for us. We started last summer and can’t get enough!

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Love everything about this post!
Just played Codenames and Exploding kittens this evening. I also love Take 5 and the duo card version of Catan. Greetings from Europe!
Love this list, thanks. We are really into rummikub.
Also a big Yahtzee fan but Pictionary is my fav!
Last weekend I played Hues and Clues for the first time. You have to try to get the group to guess the same colored square as you based on your own one word and two word description. Like Barbie and bubble gum. So different but so fun!
Couch skeleton s
Crown Five and Golf. Both card games
Backgammon, Parks, and Ticket to Ride have become some of our favorites. Parks even has a single-player option, and is a lovely gift for friends you love who live alone.
Yesss, love Shavonda & Naomi and Probably This! Such fun game recs.
Dutch Blitz!
My husband and I have had a Backgammon tournament running since 2007. We play 3 or 4 times a week while we eat lunch.
Sequence!
Sequence and A Little Wordy are our fav games for 2!
