Mother’s Day is on Sunday (!!) and when I was compiling this year’s gift guide, I thought of all the mothers in my life; my own mom, my mother in law, my sisters, my friends, other mother figures–and in thinking of them, I knew I wanted to really focus on ideas, with gifts linked below each one to help you execute those ideas.
Because really, there are three things I long for as a mother of (almost) three.
BREAKFAST IN BED
Eating breakfast in bed means so much more than eating food in bed. It means that someone who loves you got up early and quietly, took care of the kids and you SLEPT long enough, and without anyone climbing up on you when you were sleeping, for them to make you an entire breakfast–IN BED! It’s glorious and best served with a homemade card from the kids.
AT-HOME SPA
There’s not much time for moms to get dressed, let alone soak in the tub or even blow-dry their hair. And while I love a good trip to the spa or salon, you can have multiple at-home spa-like sessions for about the same price of one trip in! So run her a bath, put on some soothing music, pile a few of these items in a pretty basket and let her have the afternoon to unwind.
A REAL DATE NIGHT OUT
Surprise reservations, with a pretty new top or dress and jewelry (obsessed with the locket I linked below!) and the babysitter all booked will bring tears to her eyes. You took care of everything!? Of course you did. Stay out long enough for the kids to be asleep in bed and then surprise her with one more romantic gesture at home–cafe lights strung over the hammock, a framed picture of the kids (because she’ll actually miss them by this point) and her favorite pint of ice cream in the freezer.
* The tops I included are really flattering and forgiving and should be great for a wide variety of body types. I love the pin stripe one!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

We recently painted our study a dark, moody green color. This is after we first painted it a muddy green, then repainted it a blue-gray. I guess what they say is true; third time’s a charm! The journey was worth it, though, because I’m so in love with this glossy green in contrast with the […]

Julia! Great post! So, I read your post where you talked about ditching eyelash extensions… So, how long have you been using this serum? What is your verdict? Have you seen a notable difference?
I’ve only been using it about 2 weeks, but I can already tell a difference honestly. My lashes look healthy even after just quitting extensions–unheard of.
Great Mother’s Day ideas! I love the at home spa idea :)
Also, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I would love to see a post that is a roundup of maternity styles!
I think that’s the perfect top 3 Mother’s day gift ideas. It’s more expensive for the soul than something bought with a lot of money. I loved it xxx
I love your posts, Julia. They always feel full of unique and thoughtful topics rather than thrown together words simply because you felt you had to write a Mother’s Day Ideas post. Happy (almost) Mother’s Day to you! xx
(And not to take away from JCREW ;) but we hand make and sell a similar locket on a higher quality chain here for anyone looking! https://www.dearmushka.com/products/eclipsed-lg-jeremiah-33-3 )
That’s so beautiful!!!! I love it so much!
that really does sound perfect!
Chris – are you taking notes?! haha
#3 sounds amazing for any celebration, whether you are a mom or not! Great ideas, Julia!!
I don’t have to – she wrote it all down for me right here! ;)
#3… ???? Wow. Definitely #3! I know it has very little do do with the kids involvement but it says everything about appreciation and forethought, which is so important in recognizing a mom
