We divvy out chores in my household, and honestly, the kids have loved to help from a young age. When Greta was 2 or 3 she started unloading the dishwasher, just because that’s what she saw us doing. Now it’s Polly’s chore to set the table for dinner because our older two girls walk the dog and feed the dog. She started doing this last year as a 5-year-old, and I wanted to get melamine plates so it would be a little more manageable for her. And honestly, now we use melamine dinnerware most of the time! If someone else sets the table, we may use the plates I got last year, but melamine holds up surprisingly well and is easy for little hands to handle. It’s also a great for outdoor place settings. Bonus: It also comes in an incredible array of colors and patterns!

Here are some of the plates and platters I’ve been eyeing lately to add to our collection:
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

There was a 10-year-period where everyone (including me) was doing black or almost-black rooms or walls. These days, we want something moody and romantic, but we want warmth back in our lives. We want the “grown-up” version of that look. If you are craving a rich, moody paint color that’s a warm, inviting neutral, then […]

As a family with three young children, melamine is our “fancy” dish ware, an upgrade for the paper plates. We have a stone looking set that even fools our guests. We also have a set of the dorm room plastic plates for microwaving since melamine doesn’t belong in the microwave. Keeping glass and porcelain out of our house has been a safer upgrade knowing that our kids can handle the dishes and they won’t break!
Wow, am surprised you use this for everyday dinners. I think it is pretty well known that if you use knives to cut food on melamine you are releasing micro plastic particles which you then inject. We use melamine judiciously for sandwiches or other things where we feel confident that we won’t be injecting microplastic. I would think that with alll of Julias man health issues, the family would use regular dishes for everyday meals!!!
