I have had my share of beyond awkward years. I even have my moments these days that I would rather not remember. And thankfully, I usually don’t have a photo to remind me of those moments. Although, one day I would probably look back and laugh. That’s what I really hope that we can do today: Laugh. Because I have scanned in some of my school pictures of yesteryear. Oh my, I was SO gangly and awkward and my hair went through about every phase there is. I get that there weren’t digital cameras back then, but can’t you tell when a child isn’t smiling or her hair is sticking out? Couldn’t they have taken a redo right then instead of developing the picture and then making your parents pay more for retake picture day? Which my parents never did.
Kindergarten What a sweetie. I love your scrunchy little Jules. |
First grade Didn’t I look like a young Gaby Hoffmann (Samantha in Now and Then)? |
3rd Grade Yikes…..just, yikes. |
Fifth Grade Heads up, your hair is sticking out and you are being really serious. |
Seventh Grade Did something happen to the original shirt I was wearing, or did I really pick this to wear on school picture day? |
Tenth Grade Scanned in from a yearbook, so it looks like half my face is falling off. This was before I had a straightener, when I just thought I could straighten my hair with a curling iron. EEsh. |
Eleventh Grade Also scanned in from a yearbook. Shell necklace, those were such a fad! |
Twelfth Grade My senior picture was taken on our front stairs when we moved to Idaho…before we even got grass apparently. |
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Faves: 3rd and 7th hands down. Wheeze laughing in my office.
Julie…this is such a funny post. Creed and I are laughing over here. I think they should make a tag of school pictures. It would be funny. Maybe i’ll post mine too. I’m impressed that you had all of those at your finger tips.
1st grade is the best. 5th grade is second best. Your UT license is gorgeous! They are a liitle close.. but you look so good. My face would have taken up the whole square!!
This made me laugh so hard! Jules these are classic! I love the one with the glasses the most. Or the serious one. It is like you were wanting to be the model in your class or something. My hair was so thin and always plastered to my face that I am jealous of your volume at such young ages.
I think I’m diggin the 7th grade. That shirt is pretty hot. But both of those license pictures are gorgeous?? I however got stuck with a pretty nasty one when I changed my name. its not even close to cute. but at least you got a chi before the school pictures of adulthood right?!
LOVE them ALLLLLLL!!!!
The one with the big glasses just made me LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! Unfortunately, my hair was STICK straight growing up, but I sure love to see my sister’s wild hair do’s. Her hair went through EVERY wild curly hair phase!
