It feels like we are in a renovating cyclone right now. While there aren’t any huge projects going on, there are a lot of small things that we haven’t finished up yet from past large projects. Some of these things I honestly don’t even notice anymore day to day, but once I started making a list, they’re definitely there.
We decided to take the weekend and get the smaller projects done (and report back!) and make a shopping list for the larger projects so we can knock those out this month, too. If we don’t have stair railings by the end of this month, I might lose it.
Other fun things this week!
Speaking of wedding registries, we still have the toaster we got for our wedding and, for some reason, the plug comes out the front of it. It’s the silliest thing but has been a thorn in my side for 7 years and I might just splurge on a black smeg toaster for our anniversary this year. Drool.
Tell me what you want, what you REALLY really want. (Yes!)
A hand-painted tumbling blocks floor (in the most whimsical color!)
I’ve always said, I would rather spend money on a pillow than a shirt. And now I add to that: I’d rather spend money on this sweeper and dustpan than a pair of jeans. What does it mean when a dust pan is your idea of the perfect gift?
We are still trying to iron out all the details of the home office, and it’s turning into a thing. Sometimes I am really confident in making decisions and sometimes I’m so back and forth, I annoy even myself. Poor Chris. I’m trying to take it one decision at a time (i.e. the desk: white, black or painted–green?). Yesterday it was for sure white, today I’m leaning toward painted. Ha! I did run across this simple, tall dining table with storage that would be perfect for a standing desk and almost scrapped all of our plans and went with it. But, then I thought–do it for the drawers!
$49 for this solid wood, modern black counter stool? That’s stock up price! (In “oregano” too)
Here’s to a productive weekend for us and a relaxing one for all of you!

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Sounds like you at least have it all planned out, except the office lol. More project than I could handle I’m sure!
I would love to see a painted green desk by you! *just sayin* Also, I think the drawers would totally be missed if you went with the pre-made table…
If that sweeper/dustpan combo came in a full-size broom version I would be all over it. We hang our broom in the corner of our kitchen and I can’t find a nice looking one anywhere!
Always look forward to these
I’m in total solidarity! We moved into a foreclosure 6.5 months ago and we have a really similar punch list – we’ve been SLOWLY replacing doors and hardware and trim (same doorknobs as you guys) and all the unfinished caulking and painting and unsanded spackle and missing trim and other little touch ups are killing me. Then I look at the completely untouched areas of the house like our spray painted counter tops and back splash… I just need one spackle free wall with some art on it. I’m also 38 weeks pregnant so I lay awake at 2 am thinking “Oooh, I should refinish our stairs and banister right now… I bet I could have it done before my husband wakes up.” I love seeing your updates though and Nicole’s floor is incredible!
i love your casual friday posts! its a little bit comforting to see that you guys too have those pesky, small projects that just. need. finished. i mean that in the best way:)
