Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Monday we shared lots of photos (and feelings!) about our new home and now that we are officially in–we unloaded the last box at around 11:30pm last night–we wanted to share the very first home tour in our new house! Jordan shot this beautiful tour before all the boxes came in and due to popular request, Chris and I are going to be doing another one for next week where we’ll walk you through each room and talk about what it is, maybe some plans–there will be a ton of boxes, it’s gonna be great.

These tours have become our favorite thing to have and look back on to measure our progress–hope you enjoy this first one and many more to come!

A few notes on our home: It’s on 3.5 acres (our two neighbors are on 10 and 4.5 so it definitely feels like country living) but we are less than 10 minutes from every convenience we could think of. Which is kind of opposite of our last house where we were very close to our neighbors but about 30 minutes from the hardware store–haha. It has 9-10 foot ceilings throughout (besides the living room and entry where they are vaulted which is a dream come true for us tall people. It’s just over 5000 square feet (our last home was 3400), but the rooms are larger and it has a large space off of the entry that we’ll be using as our office so it all feels very manageable and like the perfect size. We’ll share more of our initial ideas next week–so much more to come!

What do you think?

  1. Ashley says:

Sooooo cleaning, that’s all I can think about. I know you love to clean Julia! My house is 3600 square feet and there are rooms I don’t see for a week. Do you get house cleaners or do you try and do it yourself?

  2. Dave Hansen says:

We were the ones that originally built that house. A lot has changed in it over the last 19 years since we finished it. I am sure you will make it an awesome home.

    • Julia says:

Wow! Wonderful to hear from you! As the newest caretakers of the home you built–I can confidently say we will love her and take care of her and put our own mark on her for many many many years to come. Thanks for building such a beauty!

  3. Abbie says:

Oh my goodness I love it! It’s beautiful & I don’t want you to change anything. Also I love your taste & respect your judgment, so I can’t wait to see the changes that you decide to implement. :) Congratulations!

  4. Carla says:

Congratulations! I am so happy & excited for you & your family! I see SO MUCH potential in this house! I’ve already started a mental list of everything I’d alter. ;) I cannot wait to see how you transform this house into your forever home! One question — Are the walls textured? Lastly… Chris — splurge & get a 60” range! I recently completed a two year full gut reno. I love to cook & bake & went with a 48” Wolf, in fear that the 60” would look too commercial. I completely regret it. I was SO excited to finally have two ovens, but the half oven has proved to be not as functional as I imagined, especially when hosting a holiday. Best of luck!!

  5. Lynn says:

    Wow…just wow. ????

  6. Brooke says:

The house looks amazing! You will love all that space!! We have two washers and two dryers also (separated though in different laundry rooms) and it is the best! you will love it. I cannot wait for you to get started. This is going to be good!

  7. Alise says:

Congratulations!! Your new home is so dreamy!

  8. Dawn says:

Stunning! And I need to ship you all my stuff since you have enough storage for both of us! All the built ins–love! Looking forward to seeing your touches implemented.

  9. Ashley Nakayama says:

I am in LOVEEEEE – so beautiful and can just picture it now with your design. Congratulations and good luck on this amazing journey!

  10. Effie says:

OMG I can see why you fell in love it. It has just the right amount of character and architectural interest but tons of room to improve and make it your own! I’m wondering how the girls feel about separate room after bunking together for so long?

  11. Holy Smokes! You weren’t kidding when you said you have 10 years of content – the amount of space you have is dreamy!
I can’t wait to see how you transform this home and how your style shifts to fit this new opportunity, too! I’m sure it will be incredible – Congrats!

  12. Vicki says:

Fabulous house and property! Cannot wait to see what you do with it!

  13. heidi evans says:

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your new home! Cannot wait to see what is ahead but beautiful and love the doors!!! Oh and the yard!!

  14. Krista says:

Wow, there is an insane amount of storage in that house!

We are doing the opposite in a couple of weeks– going from a 5400 sq ft house on a big piece of property next to park land, to a 3100 sq ft one on a 7000 sq ft downtown lot within arms reach of our neighbors (including family next door!). I have to say I’m relieved to have less to maintain, but I’m also not someone who has a knack for home keeping either ;) You guys seem to have found a great fit and it will be fun to see all of the projects you tackle!

  15. Anita says:

Your new house looks wonderful and spacey, but there are very few and even tiny windows. Are you going to open them up to let more light in? Love to watch your renovation journey. Finished mine a few months ago, happy to be done by now, but I really like to watch renovation storys while planning my next :-).
    Love
    Anita

  16. Linda Grubbs says:

WOW!…I’m very excited to follow you and yours in this next journey! Fabulous house…I cant wait to see what you plan to do in it. So many possibilities. This is going to be FUN! Congratulations on choosing a wonderful place to call home. <3

  17. Mai says:

Wow! Our family of 8 is definitely going to live vicariously through you from our 1100sq ft home with a tiny backyard, ha! And the double washer/dryer is a dream! Enjoy :) Can’t wait to see how you make it your own.

  18. Joanna says:

The drone work is great! Really takes the video up a notch.

  19. Ashley Boland says:

Enjoying this process and constantly checking the blog and Instagram for updates! Enjoy making it home! How about #honeywe’rehome!?

  20. Linda says:

Can you please do a post about selling your home furnished? Specifically how did you price items? A percentage of what you paid? If it was given to you by a sponsor how did you put a value on it? That would be super helpful as we may be doing same. Congratulations on the new home!

  21. Kate says:

So much fun to see it all in a video! I would really really love to see another video with you talking in the background giving us a guided tour. Especially about your plans! xx

  22. Kerry says:

What a gorgeous space! Cannot wait to watch you transform the house!

  23. Jocelyn says:

I am so excited for you all and look forward to seeing what you do to it. We also dream of one day finding a home with land so our kids can run and play and spread out. I am also excited to see what you do with the vaulted ceilings when it comes to decorating etc since so many people struggle with how to make that look good. Quick question, did you consider putting your office in the room downstairs? It seemed bigger and had room for storage and the bathroom which is convenient. I know that is great for guests but if you’re using that space everyday and guests only stay occasionally it might work better for your office. Of course with it being a basement I guess the light isn’t as good so that could be a negative. Anyway, just thinking out loud. Congratulations! It’s amazing.

    • Julia says:

Our office is actually larger than the first room downstairs! Scale is really hard to tell without furnishings or people

      • Jocelyn says:

Oh wow, that’s crazy! You’re right, scale is hard!! haha. Can’t wait to see the walk through tour with you guys talking about all your ideas for the space.

  24. Megan says:

I loved your old house but I also can’t wait to see what you do with the new house! It’ll be fun to see how you design a new style of house.

  25. Jennifer says:

The house is beautiful! I can’t wait to see how you style it. I was alreading see thick white crown moulding & lots of trim…Lol
Such a fun project you all have in front of you. But,I would go slow & live in it a little while so you can figure out exactly the style you want.

  26. Monica says:

Such an “interesting” house! Do you happen to know anything about its prior or original history? It seems like it is a mish-mash of every style out there – prairie windows with that entry-way crystal chandelier and that castle like stone here and there inside and out and pillars and so many different types of flooring! By any chance was it some sort of sample house for a builder? I say this because my cousin lives in a house that had different flooring in every room and it turns out that the original owner owned a flooring company!

    • Julia says:

I know the home has a lot of stylistic directions now but we’re excited to hone it. The builder built it for his family 20 years ago but that’s all I know.

  27. monica cano says:

would love to see a floor plan to get a better idea

  28. Shayna Wilborn says:

I am beyond excited to follow along for this new design journey! Can’t wait to see the paint you select this go round. I enjoyed seeing your previous home with just the perfect amount of warmth. Congrats!

  29. Danna says:

It looks like a storybook house from the outside! So charming! Can’t wait to see how you’ll make it yours.

  30. Dora says:

I’ve been following your blog since you renovated your Rexburg kitchen and I was soooo sad to see you let go of that house because it seemed perfect for your family. I LOVED it and very often took ideas for my own home. I didn’t see how you could let it go. And well, this new house is just… WOW. I understand now. This new house has so much space and potential and it is absolutely better than I could have imagined. Goes to show that we benefit from being open to possibilities, even when things seem good as they are. After all that your family has been through this year, I’m so genuinely happy for you all and I can’t wait to follow along as you make this magical space your own. Thank you for allowing us all to come along ❤️

  31. RN says:

House twins. We bought a year ago a two story 5000 sq ft with a similar style out in the country built in 01 and I thought the same thing in this video as I did in our walk through… seems like every room has different flooring!

  32. Rebecca says:

Wow! It’s beautiful ! Your grass is so green! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

  33. Jill says:

Last week I saw the video of your family jumping on the trampoline and I felt a bit of sadness wondering if it would be a few years before the new place had a great outdoor area for the kids. Well….shouldn’t have worried! The outside looks amazing and I’m sure your girls are loving it! Congrats! So happy to follow along and cheer you on!

  34. Amy Jones says:

How many bedrooms and bathrooms does it have? I’m so excited to watch the renovations unfold. It’s a very regal home, and I’m excited to see how you put your spin on it!

  35. Andrea says:

Ahhh!!! So beautiful! I can’t wait to see how you put your mark on the place. Do your parents live far from you now since you both recently moved?

  36. Patricia says:

It’s already beautiful. And now you’ll make it yours. Looking forward to the journey.

  37. Jake says:

It’s a really nice house on a great lot! What year was it built in?

  38. Karen says:

Beautiful! Congrats! I am MOST excited to see what you do with those gorgeous high ceilings in the entry!

  39. Jessica says:

Love it! It’s so interesting as it has so many mod cons but feels a bit dated and ready for a revamp.

The master toilet is that a fancy Japanese one?!

  40. Mandee McEvoy says:

super curious if you told the previous owners at closing about your blog? Wonder if they’ll be following along..
When we started our diy instagram account, the builders daughter (from the 80’s) somehow began following it, and now when i get her ‘like’ it feels like i somehow made the builder/original family proud, 40 years later!

  41. Kelly says:

How will Chris cook with just one stove? :) LOL

  42. Kendal says:

Love it! You mentioned the difference in location. Will the girls have to change schools?

  43. Tricia says:

Super excited for you guys – can’t wait to see the house grow into you guys ;) and so thankful you’re taking us all on the journey with you.

  44. Annie says:

What a beautiful home!!! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I have a feeling you’re going to have a lot of really happy years here with your family. Congrats!

P.S. I bet Greta feels like such a big girl in that room!

  45. Juliet says:

It’s going to be so beautiful. And so different than your last house (which was also beautiful). I’m so excited to learn about coming plans and see it all come to pass. I’m nearly done with my house, and I’m already itching to work on another one. I get to live vicariously, ha!

  46. Lindsay says:

Can we talk about the fact that you didn’t mention you have TWO washers and TWO dryers in this house?!….isn’t that the most important detail here?! Just kidding…kind of.

Such a stunning home, it’s going to be so well loved by your fam!

  47. Liz says:

This is an amazing home! So excited to see how you make it your own!!

  48. Heather says:

So much potential!! I’m already swooning over the mud room, upstairs laundry and that sweet little wallpapered bathroom. ❤️

  49. Kimberly Stewart says:

Holy cow, I am so excited to see where you guys take this huge house! Congratulations. It feels like a whirlwind to me so I can’t imagine how you guys are feeling.

  50. Lori says:

How exciting! Look foward to following along with your remodel!

  51. Bren says:

Oh, I am HERE for this! Love it.

  52. katelyn says:

Such a beautiful home!!! I started following you guys 5 years ago and it is so fun to watch you guys grow as a family and a business! You are both so talented! I’ll definitely be following for the next 5+ years of inspiration and transformation! I can’t wait to see what you do with this place!

  53. Rachel Martinez says:

WOW!!!! It’s beautiful! I *think* I like that style house, but I also love your style. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do. P.S. I love your videos with music. It’s very impactful. Your team has a good ear for music. It really defines the house as is. I’m sure the next tour will have different music and give the house a different character based on the music chosen. Congratulations! I’m looking forward to watching the journey! p.p.s. My mom and sisters love their proper tees!

  54. Brooke says:

Beautiful! I love the 2 staircases! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

  55. Austin says:

Holy storage, Batman! Stunning home. Can’t wait to see you make it your own! (And unrelated, but I love the video music ha ha).

  56. Phoebe K says:

Wow! Such a big, wonderful house. There are tons of amazing features. Those giant doors, all the woodwork and stone work, so much storage! It’s so beautiful already. Can’t wait to see all the improvements you’ll make!

  57. Bridey Church says:

Congratulations!! Such a beautiful and obviously well-loved home and lot. It will be dreamy to follow along with this one through the years.

  58. Charlene says:

Congratulations!! The home and the property are absolutely beautiful!! I cannot wait to see how you plan to make it your own! The space for the girls and your dog is a dream!

  59. cindy says:

    wow .
    just WOW !
from being intrigued by your style after coming across your blog via pinterest , to eagerly devouring every photo on your blog and becoming connected to your style , to then find myself somehow feeling invested in your family , to feeling a loss and sadness for you over your cabin , to cheering you on as you demonstrated the most positive attitude moving forward , to feeling a joy watching this video of your new home ….. you are the only bloggers i have ever felt so intrigued by , connected to , invested in , have felt kiss and sadness for , have cheered on , and have shed tears for in joy and happiness . i know i’m not the only one
thank you for what you have added to OUR lives as you live yours .

ENJOY your new home while you “DON’T WAIT”!!!!

  60. Rebecca says:

Love that you did this with an empty house. You could easily redo it once you have unpacked and it will already look different with stuff in it.

  61. Jenna says:

This house! Love it love it love it! You are right, the rooms are all such nice sizes that even though it is huge sq ft it still feels very warm and homey. Looks like it has a great flow and energy. What a place for your girls to grow up! I dream of a place like this but, sadly home prices in most of Canada are insane. This place would easily be $5 million here.

  62. Candice says:

Wow beautiful home!! I don’t think you’ll ever have a problem with storage!! Beautiful now & so much potential. Happy for your family

  63. Megan says:

How do you prioritize where to start when you have so many big plans?! Most used rooms first? A smaller room like a bathroom for a “quick and easy” win? Paint everything first just to start feeling like home?! So excited to see what you do with the place!!!! ????????????

    • Julia says:

We’re honestly still trying to nail that down. I think we’re going to start with the main level since we have no furniture down here right now and a lot more major plans that could disrupt down the road.

  64. Mia says:

Me and my family are on the wayyyyyyy!

    Such a beautiful home!

  65. Andrea says:

Great tour! This house is huge! I can’t wait to see how you make this house work with your style. I am reluctantly admitting that I always mute your house tours because I really can’t stand the background music! I believe you can find something better! Anyone else with me on this?

    • Janine says:

I was just thinking that I really like the music Jordan added!

      • elizabeth says:

I literally came on here to ask what music you used?!?!? I love it! It’s serene and exciting and calm all at once. Info please?

    • Courtney says:

Ha- same! I love everything Chris & Julia do, but I HATE the video music! I normally wouldnt make a negative comment but I didn’t want you up think you were alone in this. Excited for the narrated house tours- this will be a great compromise for those of us who just aren’t into the music.

    • Kelsey G says:

Oh thank God. The music is worst. Lol. Great videography though.

    • Laura C says:

Agreed. It makes me feel like I’m on hold trying to get through to customer service. Mute all the way.

    • Marjory says:

I was about 5 min in when I finally was like, why am I listening to this, the music is making me crazy! It is like being on hold.

    • Gillianne says:

Chiming in to agree. Love the video tours; grit teeth at the music and mute it. My preference is voiceover or no music rather than different music.

  66. Okay…WOW!! First off, Jordan, you are getting so good at these!! Secondly; this house!! It has so much potential and it literally gave me goosebumps. I can already see some of the changes you envisioned in the front room with the columns and moving fireplaces and it’s going to be so pretty. It’s so lovely that all of your personal spaces will be upstairs away from your work area, and I love that back staircase right down to the kitchen. The land you have plus accessibility to conveniences makes me hope that my husband and I can move away from the city someday sooner than expected. I can’t wait to see where you start! It’s going to be so good!

  67. Arli says:

    Magnificent!
