This week, our living room got a fresh coat of paint!! We wanted to do a full reveal today, but by the time everything got cleaned up, the sun went down, so I just have this tiny peak for you today and we’ll share a lot more photos next week!! The color is Pigeon by Farrow & Ball but we had it color matched at Sherwin Williams (I’ll share more about this in the big post, promise!). It’s such a chameleon color–it can be sage-y green to a warm gray to a blue-ish green! It’s everything we wanted and I can’t wait to load furniture in today so we can enjoy it even more.
While we had scaffolding rented, we took the opportunity to finally hang the chandelier that we have had for over a year! It was meant to go in our last living room (you may remember this post!), but we were waiting for the electrician to come back to pull the wires through the beams and with Covid, the timing was never working out. So we brought it with us and I’m so glad we did! Slowly but surely, we’re recognizing ourselves in this home, starting with Pigeon.

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Love your Handsmaid Tale chandelier in the LR!
I cannot for the life of me find the post where you revealed your staircase. I know it was recently, you mentioned wanting to paint it still, a shade of black. I went searching your site for that post, I was trying to find the black shade of paint you mentioned. Am I imagining things?
Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams! Here is the post– https://www.chrislovesjulia.com/grand-staircase-and-herringbone-floors/
I really love the finish of the paint. Absolutely stunning. Well done to you all amd the team. I wish we had a stockist in South Africa for Farrow and Ball brand.
Love how the room is coming together! Wondering if you have tips on when to paint the trim/ceiling and when to leave it white?
When I clicked on the link for the wallpaper it says they deliver internationally?! So maybe they do ship to the US now?
You chose the perfect color – the floors are singing now! Well done!
Love the look- I keep seeing people mention paint the ceiling too- I’ve never had a painted ceiling, window trim and baseboard that match the walls. Is that for dramatic effect? Getting ready to paint majority of our house and am not sure if I need to jump on this look? ;)
1st thing that popped up when I clicked the link for that wallpaper was “We ship internationally”!😁
Also loving the paint in your living room!😍 gorgeous !
They must have updated that!
LOVE IT!!!
Buy the wallpaper (please)!!! Obsessed. 😍
That color is downright gorgeous and looks like exactly what I was hoping for in our bedroom! I’ve never color matched before – do you find any difference in the quality vs. F&B? It’s hard to wrap my head around buying such expensive paint haha.
You definitely get what you pay for! Farrow & Ball is incredible.
I’m curious why you use Farrow and Ball sometimes and other times color match? In general I would think you’d use one favorite paint brand. Also, this is what I use to color match after having a store employee screw up a match. https://www.easyrgb.com/en/compare.php#inputFORM
I don’t have one favorite paint brand. In general I like to use whatever brand the color is in! However, farrow and ball you have to order and our painter’s only gave us one day heads up so we improvised
Wow. That chandelier really sets the stage. Love that you went with a mid-tone paint color. With this hue, I can already envision a range of palettes for your future fireplace surround – from a subtle stone of ivory or a mix of amber, taupe and cream, to a dramatic stone streaked with dark green, black or grey. Well done.
That wallpaper is AMAZING! Pull the trigger!
Love the paint color. It is stunning!!!
What finish is on the ceiling , the trim and the walls? And did you use the same color all over?
Thanks so much!
We did eggshell for the walls and ceiling and semi-gloss for the trim! All the same color.
You can purchase that same wallpaper here and it ships free to USA. :)
finestwallpaper dot com.
oh my gosh you’re the best!!!
I have been looking at wallpaper for ages and I love the designer Helenpdesigns on spoonflower. Her Tea time in Wonderland and Silver Swans prints are so charming for a girl’s room. Maybe you could find a good alternative there?
Absolutely love the color you chose for the living room. It looks so good with the floors too.
Whats a good paint color for a basement? Pigeon too dark?
Not at all! We used SW Greenblack in our last basement and it actually made it feel brighter down there.
I don’t think I’ve ever loved a wallpaper more!
Oh gosh! Pull the plug on that wallpaper for Polly’s room. So gorgeous!
I think you (and Julia) mean pull the trigger :) Pull the plug means to end something.
