As you know, our entire team relocated with us to North Carolina. We’ve been visiting each other’s homes, getting inspired and talking through all of the unique features. (Who doesn’t love a good home gush?!) It has been so fun and special for our team. Missy, our Editorial Assistant and Visual Media Assistant has such a great dining room space. We love the chair rail, the tall window, and cased opening from the entry and knew this would also be a really fun transformation. She’s also never had a formal dining room (it’s much more common here than it was in Idaho), and we were dying to be able to do a room transformation all the way through… and so we did!

Using Article in a Dining Room

Article’s dining collection is substantial, stylish, and modern. To set the stage for a beautiful new dining table and chairs — we started with the paint. This room was a modern and dramatic black before, and it didn’t resonate with Missy. Her personality is more playful and sweet, and so we chose a warmer muted mauve (Sherwin Williams Hushed Auburn) to match her personality a bit more.

Before

After

Before

After

Painting made such an impactful difference that we knew would only complement the furniture we picked out for the space. Article has substantial solid wood pieces, and everything we chose from their dining collection was quick-ship! I love clean lines with a nod to traditional and familiar. It feels comfortable, and it looks comfortable, you know?!

The pieces are so well designed that it was hard to choose which dining pieces would be best in this room. We chose the Kirun White Oak Extendable Table for this space, but think the black railing on the Madera Oak Extendable Table (you know how I feel about black) would have worked just as well. The rich, warm wood tones in this table work so lovely with the paint color. Missy has a family of five, and we wanted them all to be able to fit comfortably at a table that seats six. The incredible thing about this table is that it comes with two leaves and can seat up to 12! We ordered 12 of the Meno Oak Stackable Chairs (key word: STACKABLE!) with the cutest black metal legs — because every room needs a pop of black. If space was no objective, the lines on the similar Versus Oak Chair (eyeing the comfort of that padded leather seat). Now she’s equipped to have dinner parties, and we can’t wait for her to invite us all over. (hint hint)

Adding in the Finishing Touches

We rolled out a Terracotta Multi rug from our Jules collection to really ground the furniture and bring together the wall color and wood tone and even the black legs. To complement the chairs’ vintage schoolhouse vibe, we really needed to bring in some softer ambient lighting. The sputnik light fixture was fun, but a little too modern. I found this great linear pendant that sweetened up the whole room even more. We also hung some romantic wrinkled linen curtains (high and wide of course) and hung a piece of thrifted vintage art that used to hang in my bathroom. I think the finishing touches really make the furniture sing, don’t you?

Article really specializes in Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian furniture, and I think we really brought the room together by marrying the modern vibes with the romantic, vintage touches.

Using Article Throughout the Home

Missy was already such a fan of Article that she purchased their Sven Charme Tan Leather Sofa for her living room when she moved-in. To carry the vibe from room to room, she also ordered Article’s Oscuro Sideboard, the Dako White Oak Sideboard, and the Heron White Floor Lamp. By incorporating Article’s special and significant pieces throughout the first floor, there’s a lovely, cohesive feel.

Missy’s planning to swap the sideboards in and out to use as buffet tables for hosting dinner parties, which I think is a great idea. Missy said something so interesting after we finished, “Now I need the rest of the house to match this!” I know that feeling all too well. Moving into a new home and pouring love into a space that kind of sets the bar for the rest of the rooms. It’s such a fun and motivating activity!

And what we love most is how Article makes it easy to fall in love with your home, even when your home isn’t “done” yet. There’s no reason to wait to enjoy all that your home can offer to your family and your most cherished guests when Article makes it so easy to add beautiful furnishings to your entertaining spaces. Looks great, and love the coupon offer for Article (thanks!). The rug looks great with the paint color. Where are they storing all the extra chairs? Even stackable, the 5 not being used would take up a lot of closet space.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
