Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

We’ve been making a few little updates around the house over the past couple months in preparation for two big, exciting things coming up in the beginning of next year. The spaces that were almost there, but not quite–like the living room–got a few finishing touches. Like, our first ever actual coffee table. And new pillows after 4 years.

Living Room | Chris Loves Julia

Across from the couch, we finally found the twin to our leather chair and we added lighting and an end table in between the two. There’s much to share, and trust me when I say you will be seeing it all plenty in the new year (!!) but you can catch lots of glimpses on Instagram (@chrislovesjulia–head over there for a $250 Wayfair giveaway today!) until we’re able to share.  But, for now, I wanted to give you a little sneak peek of this side of the living room and share links to all the sources below.

Have a merry weekend!

Sources: Area Rug, Sofa, Large Black and White Pillows, Indigo Pillow, Faux Fur Pillow, Lumbar Pillow, Throw, Photo Ledge (DIY), Lamp, End table (partial DIY), Big basket (love these for collecting toys in one quick swoop!), Coffee Table, Brass Cricket, White Faceted Vases, Succulents, Antlers (foraged), Black Leather Magazine Stand, Plant Basket-Target (can’t find it online), Arc Lamp,

Hi – I love this room! Where did you find the eye chart art?

  2. Susan C says:

Hi, I love your arc floor lamp! I used your link and went straight to the source. But then I got worried it may not work for my space. I see the measurements but with an arc involved, I’m just confused! Could you tell me how far back the base of the lamp is from where the shade hangs when fully extended? I want the shade to be over a side table that is between two swiveling chairs so both can be used for reading. The chairs are swiveled around at times to see the view out the windows behind them, and a lamp on the table blocks the view. So I thought an arcing floor lamp would be perfect and I love the one you have for various reasons. It is waitlisted til early April, so if I could figure out if it will work for me, that will help me wait! Thanks so much!

Hi. I am hoping to buy pillows that match the two big black and white pillows on your sofa, but it appears that your link no longer works. Any chance you have any more information on them like the brand or item number or a new link? I would like to see if I can find through another source, if at all possible.

(and by the way, I love your house and your blog!)

  4. Kacey says:

You guys have honestly the most reader friendly blog! Your shop page is THE best. I think you’ve convinced me to splurge on the Crate & Barrel rug…is yours the Indigo or just the Blue? The two shades look similar, and I noticed this post links to the Indigo, and the Shop page links to the Blue. I love the way it looks in your living room do I want to make sure I get the right one! THANKS so much. Keep doing what you’re doing. You rock! (Also- does it shed a lot?)

    • Julia says:

Ah! I need to change that. We have the indigo! (Chris is going to change that right now). It’s the best best. It did shed for maybe a week? But zero shedding now. Well, only shedding from our big dog. ;)

      • Kacey says:

Thanks so much for the insanely fast response! I don’t know how you guys do it all. Indigo it is!

  5. Kathryn Woodfin says:

Thank you so much for listing sources. I was very interested in your lamp on the side table by the sofa but it’s one of the few items you did not include. By chance do you remember where you got it or perhaps know who might stock a similar style? Your home is lovely and it’s obvious the amount of work you’ve put into it. Just beautiful !

  6. Kate says:

Such a perfect mix of materials and textures. I’m searching for some black and white pillows and LOVE the ‘X’ ones that you put on the brown club chairs. Can you share that source? Thanks!!

  7. Stephanie says:

Hi! I love your home! So welcoming! Quick question regarding the large black and white pillows on the sofa. Are they scratchy? I see they are a wool and cotton mix and I want a cozy lounge are with no itchy pillows!

  8. Love the way that blue pillow ties in with the rug – it’s great! The coffee table is the perfect blank canvas to change out decor throughout the seasons. I have been in the market for one – but unfortunately have too expensive of taste ;) Can’t wait to see the big news!

  9. Beautiful living space. Would you mind sharing what color you painted your walls?

  10. Dorothy Perkins says:

I live in an open concept home and I do absolutely love it! I agree 100% with your pros and cons! The one thing I don’t like about it is that it can make it hard for me to decorate; birthdays for example. Hanging banners or streamers are hard for me to place sometimes. What do you do as far as that goes?! Our floorplan has an entry with a formal living room off to the side as you walk in so it definitely blocks anyone from seeing my dirty kitchen as they step inside because it’s hidden around a corner, ha ha! But I loved your post and glad you touched on this because A LOT of homes are built this way nowadays :) very informative, thanks!!

    Sincerely,

    D. Perkins

  11. Evelina says:

gorgeous as always! Love the new coffee table!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
