In working with Stoffer to design our dream kitchen, they were so considerate of exactly how we would be using the kitchen. For years, Chris and I debated about putting a sink in the island–even back when we were planning on renovating the kitchen in our last house. We always just felt like–a sink goes in front of a window. In our new kitchen, that wasn’t a possibility (There’s two big windows at the end of the kitchen, but the bulk of the kitchen in all on interior walls.) So, we took Stoffer’s advice and put a big 44″ sink in the island and truthfully? We could NOT be happier!! Chris obviously does a lot of cooking, and with that comes a lot of dishes (which is where I come in). We’re still waiting for our dishwasher to arrive, and in the meantime, washing every pot, dish, pan and flatware has barely felt like a chore thanks to being able to wash dishes, in our sink, while talking to whoever is keeping me company sitting at the island. Although the kitchen isn’t done, we realized we haven’t really shared the plumbing fixtures we chose for the kitchen from Kohler! They have made such a beautiful and functional difference in the space.
Kohler thought of everything with this 44″ highly functional, stainless steel sink. I like to think of it as more of a workstation with the all the accessories it comes with – a bamboo cutting board, two grated racks (perfect for drying dishes!), a colander, and a wash bin. There are three ledges for these to rest on, and they can slide around to customize your workstation!
They thought of everything and we find ourselves using every single accessory! Washing dishes is more fun than ever and I especially love that it’s on the island so I can still be a part of the “action” while I wash. The grated drying racks help keep our counters clear, too.
We actually got a lot of questions about why we went with a stainless steel sink, rather than a porcelain option. The honest answer is, I guess I don’t want what we have for dinner to show up in my sink. Stainless steel cleans up so nicely and leaves all the food stains behind. We extended the marble apron on the front of the sink cabinets to give the illusion of a marble front sink and that detail is one of my favorites.
If you guessed I’m in love with polished nickel water fixtures, you’re not wrong. I just keep coming back to polished nickel! It has warm metallic undertones and is the perfect bridge between the stainless steel and brass finishes we’re also using in the kitchen (see how we’re mixing all the metals in this post!). The two faucets (one in the bar area and the bridge faucet on the island) and pot filler are all from the Artifacts collection, which is a beautiful marriage of classic, vintage traditional style, with modern-day function.
Bonus points for designing fixtures that will resist tarnishing and corrosion. The kitchen sink faucet has a convenient sidespray with two intensities, and we use both for washing produce, as well as a quick clean-up of the sink.
In our last kitchen we had a pot-filler and Chris used it for cooking quite often, so we knew a pot-filler was a necessity for our dream kitchen. The Artifacts wall-mounted pot filler is not only stunning, but it folds in so it’s nearly flush with the stone, and then it swivels out with a full 22″ reach! The mobility on this is incredible and Chris is in heaven.
Our drink station would not be complete without its own water source and sink. This is where we mix our pre-workout, make protein shakes, mix up a hot cup of tea… The list goes on! We chose the Strive Undermount bar sink because of how well it paired with the Prolific sink. Clean lines, premium stainless steel, plus it includes a bottom rack to help prevent scratching. I especially love the small size of it, while still being deep enough for me to set my Stanley Cup in it for a fill-up.
Along with the stunning design, this Artifacts bar sink faucet has temperature memory, allowing the faucet to be turned on and off at the temperature from the previous use. I’m sorry what?? Incredible. It also has a high-arch spout with a 360-degree swivel rotation.
We used Kohler fixtures in our Modern Cottage Bathroom renovation, so to us it was an easy decision to include them in our kitchen design. Their quality in design and function is unmatched and we couldn’t be happier to see and use their pieces in our kitchen every day.

How We’re Mixing Metals in the Kitchen
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

The next project we’re checking off our 2023 project list is the mudroom! This used to be the laundry room until we built out a much bigger, better laundry room upstairs. So, in the meantime, this space has been exclusively Cricket’s room. Cricket will still have a special space here, but we’re transforming this dingy […]
