From the very beginning, Stoffer Home Cabinetry designed our kitchen hutch, including these brass rail details that I’ve been drooling over (see the full plans here). This whole corner is definitely a whole moment within the kitchen and can’t you see why? I love having a designated place to display our serving platters and copper fixtures and I think I’ll love this corner even more once our fridge is in its proper, neighboring place (fingers crossed for the end of June). We get questions about these rods all the time so I thought I would give them a well-deserved place here on the blog.

Our contractor Micah actually ordered the rails from a source called Online Metals, and we were able to choose our diameter and length. For the hutch the rails are 5/8″ diameter and and 60″ long. I wanted them to be substantial enough, but not too bulky. The perfect size if you ask me.
This space has already evolved so much in function. Chris has been using it as a sourdough bread station so I had ordered some nice jars to store flour on the shelves. Recently Chris had to stop eating gluten, which means he hasn’t been making much sourdough. So, we’ve been using as more of a plating station these days. Chris plates most all of our meals here, and when we’re hosting, we grab and use the platters on display.
We have the same rails on these open shelves on both ends of the island! These are just a little bit thicker at 3/4″, and only 24″ long. If I were to do it again I think I might have made these closed cabinets rather than leaving them open. I love the cake stands we have on display, but it’s always nice to have cabinets.
The latest update in the kitchen is that our speed oven (microwave) arrived just a few weeks ago and it works like a charm. Freezer arrives May 25h, fridge and fridge drawer for the drink station both arrive June 24th. Why does that still feel so far away?

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

What is the wood paneling backing the shelves and how are the brass rails mounted?
It’s all a part of Stoffer Kitchen’s cabinetry!
LOVE these brass rails. They just give it that little some’n some’n ;-). Is “speed oven” an updated term for microwave or is it a wholly separate appliance – like a combo of oven + microwave? Just curious!
It’s really a fancy microwave. It does have roasting options and convection and temperature so a combination for sure, but we have to explore those features before I can report back!
Such a beautiful kitchen. Once all the appliances are in, would love a walk thru and review on how all of the storage and design features are working for you. Just wondering, why does Chris plate in such a small area when you have that huge island?
He plates wherever he likes :)
