2 weeks ago we shared our phase 1 kitchen renovation before and after photos and besides it being one of the most fun projects we’ve ever shared, we also got a loot of questions about why we would you even DO a phase 2? What a nice compliment to our phase 1. The goal of phase 1 was always to fall in love with what we had. Goal. Achieved. Repurposing, rearranging, and painting went a long way, but it didn’t address some of the more of the larger functional issues.
In today’s video, we’re sharing a video walkthrough of the final space and also the big issues with the kitchen as is. We love how it looks so much, but the range location, cabinet layout and size (oh man–you have to watch for a demo on that! It’s pretty funny!) are a few reasons why this phase 1 is just a phase 1.
That being said, we love being in our kitchen now and will live with these little quirks for a couple more years.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

The next project we’re checking off our 2023 project list is the mudroom! This used to be the laundry room until we built out a much bigger, better laundry room upstairs. So, in the meantime, this space has been exclusively Cricket’s room. Cricket will still have a special space here, but we’re transforming this dingy […]

Love your blog’ but where is the gorgeous splurge cabinet from…
Right here!
I am so mad at you guys right now…I’m getting ready to paint my cabinets and thought I decided on a color until I watched this video…I love your cabinet color! Here I go back to indecision again! The cabinet color with the black trim on the window…I’m in love! I’ll just tell my husband it’s you guy’s fault (smile).
Where is the cabinet from? Crazy beautiful!
Can I ask where you got the circle cutting board with the black accents?!
Etu Home!
I just love you guys ! So inspiring ! Where is that beautiful bowl that your apples are in from ?
I actually love the video style!! It brings attention to the beautiful details of your new kitchen – which is what really sets if apart. Can’t wait to see the phase 2.
The corner lazy Susan’s are the worst! I hated them at our city condo. So happy with our v shaped drawers – great for foil, plastic wrap, kitchen towels!
Thank you for sharing a video walk-through! It was hard to watch with the constant little movements and focus issues, and I felt slightly nauseous after watching it, but I powered through because I wanted to see and hear what you had to say! There is nothing “wrong” with my kitchen, but we haven’t touched it since we moved in 3 years ago even though it is not quite my style yet. I’ve been thinking of it as one big project, but you’ve really changed my mind into thinking of doing it in phases, when we have the funds, rather than waiting so long and saving up to do it all at once! Thanks for the inspiration!!
Beautiful….very inspiring!
Will you add this kitchen to the “shop our house” section on your blog? I love your style. Beautiful kitchen!
We need to make one for this house!
It is beautiful even if it’s not as functional as you would like. I am sure after you live with it for a year or so, you will know exactly what to change. I love, love, love the color. Great job!
Love the kitchen!! It’s really amazing what you’ve done in such a short time. I loved following along on Instagram, looking forward to many more projects revealed in real time like that! However I would like to add my negative reaction about the video. I feel really bad saying this, but it was really really hard to watch. I think it’s a “style” that she was going for and it feels intentional, but it was wayyyy too much refocusing and shaky movements and I was unable to make it all the way through both this video and the latest Chris Cooks video.
Can I ask where your melamine bowls with the tan bottoms are from? I need them! :)
They are from World Market! Right here.
I would love a post about the functional decor pieces! Thinking it may be time to retire my hand-me-down cheese grater with the broken 70’s-orange handle, lol
Love the video! I’m no longer on Instagram (due to my lack of self-control) and so I missed the live updates. I’m glad I have thr chance to see a video tour!
I love how phase 1 turned out! I was actually out of the country with spotty connections during the last half of that reno, and you better believe I still was as obsessive about every frozen frame as the rest of humanity with high speed internet. ???? I’m usually a huge fan of your videos but this one gives me that “Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse” vibe and a very legit motion sickness. Please help the rest of us sensitive folks out and make it easier to watch?
I LOVE this kitchen and cannot get enough of it! So inspirational and makes me even more excited to see what you are going to do with the rest of your house.
I also love your two fruit bowls – the one next to the sink and the one in that gorgeous cabinet. Are they still sold?
Love this kitchen transformation on a small budget! I love watching all your projects. Too bad the video kept refocusing and going blurry before focusing again which made it hard to watch.
Love it! What’s the name of the color on the cabinets?
It’s called Thunderous by Sherwin Williams
I loved it! Couldn’t wait to check Instagram for more stories. ????????????
I love the kitchen transformation! You guys made such small changes that made a big impact, like painting the windows and hardware black and choosing that paint color. I would have never thought that would really transform a space. And such a great idea for functional decor. I do have a question, where are those knives from? I liked how pretty the wood color is on the handle.
I love this kitchen so much so I’m thrilled I got a closer look at it! Functionality is so important in a kitchen. It would annoy me to not be able to unload the dishwasher hassle free…ugh. Sometimes it is the little things that matter.
I love how this turned out and I usually love your videos but I couldn’t watch the whole thing with the focus shifting every time you moved or the camera tried to show a different area. Absolutely amazing, creative work though! Loved watching in come together on Instagram stories.
I think it looks great but I’m completely with you on the layout. There’s enough space here so you really have a lot of options to rearrange things.
Love watching your guy’s videos! Also where is your top from? It’s the perfect cozy chíc!
Where did you put your microwave?
Video was visually hard to watch. The camera kept refocusing. I’m just letting you know bc this is my fav blog/site!
Haha I gasped out loud when you opened the dishwasher and that cabinet haha. We have a couple drawer cabinets like that too and they are kind of annoying. But not by the dishwasher lol noooo
Phase one turned out great! The video was super hard to watch though—too shaky and lots of focus issues.
Can’t wait to see what you guys do in phase 2 and with the rest of the house!
Loved seeing a walk through of the kitchen. I feel like when you were deciding cabinet colors, I was just meh about the green, but now that’s it’s on, it’s so stunning!! By the way, as far as the video quality, get a gimbal for the camera. It’ll help so much with movement and shake. Love seeing you all transform this home. It’s going to be unbelievable when you get done!
Chris may appreciate a Masala Daba, something Indian cooks use to corral all the spices we use regularly. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/5116X0l%2BtJL._SX425_.jpg
I love what you have done! The colors are beautiful! Something about the shelves that is so warm and pretty, I love how you have decorated them with useful things. I want to put shelves in my house! I know the kitchen maybe awkward with it being so far apart but I do love the way it looks.
Love the renovation – the video was so hard to watch it kept going in&out of focus.
Loveeeee the kitchen, agree about the video making me a little motion sick, maybe f stop set to let more light in but it did make it gonin and out of focus. I loved how the color of the kitchen even changed just in the video though, was so much fun to follow along on the renovation.
Beautiful work on the kitchen, Julia! One comment about the video – I had to turn it off because the camera shaking and rapid focus/blur issues were making me nauseous. Not trying to be overly critical, but I thought you might want to re-calibrate the camera for sensitive viewers like me. Your design work, however, is absolutely flawless :)
Our speakers don’t work so I used the closed caption option. Hysterical! Did you really talk about your little toe in that video? Do you have a murderer pestle in your kitchen? If you need a laugh, that’s the way to watch it :). Love what you’ve done!
Hahahaha no no no
