When it comes to seasonal home decor, I like to keep things fairly simple. My tips for making my home feel more cozy are simple enough to do in an afternoon (I did)! But most importantly, none of this is going to break the bank! In fact, I bet you can find most of this stuff around your house (or from your yard)! Here’s 5 simple fall decor tips to spread the seasonal cheer around the home. You can also check out the Fall Decor Essentials post from last year which I still stand by.

1. Candles and Scents

There’s no quicker way to make your home feel like fall than to make it smell like fall. Scents like amber, apple, fig, and spice are going to get your home feeling cozy in no time. Lucky for you we tested a bunch of fall scents and shared the top 16 best fall scents for your home!

In addition to the smell of candles, the ambiance of a flickering candle is unmatched. Bonus points if it’s in a cute ceramic jar. You also can’t go wrong with tapered candles and candlesticks, plus they can add so much color and height to any space!

2. Textiles

I pack away a lot of my throws in the summer time, but I love pulling them out and layering them over the couches and chairs for fall! Textiles can instantly add more softness and interest to a space. When I think of fall textiles I think of cozy knits, plaids, gingham, and checker. Oh and fringe and tassels!–can’t forget about those.

You can incorporate these textiles through your pillows, throws, upholstered furniture, rugs, curtains, and even a lamp shade ;). Try draping a blanket over the back of your sofa for some extra interest (and furniture protection). And maybe you already have some throw pillow covers you that could be made even better with one of these 5 pillow inserts we tested!

3. Stems

Bringing seasonal branches into the home is like bringing the outside in! For a quick fall feel around the home, incorporate some colorful changing branches into your decor!

When it comes to branches, I’m all about grabbing a pair of clippers and heading outside to get the real thing. But sometimes what you have outside isn’t what you want, and so faux is the way to go! See what the great outdoors has in-store for you, and if that fails, we have the perfect faux fall stem round-up for you.

For real branches, my number one tip to get them to last longer is to pinch the bottoms of the stems before placing in water. I’ve done this countless times, and I’m not a plant expert but it seem to last weeks!

4. Seasonal Fruit

Another cost-effective and practical way to spread fall throughout the home is through the food you eat! Obviously I have a love for faux pumpkins on the front porch, but you can also set out a wooden bowl of apples, squash, or even dried artichokes. I love the look of a bowl of reddish pears resting on the countertops to liven up the space. Still life art!

5. Woods and Metals

Along with your textiles, you can’t forget about your other materials! Focus on adding a mix of woods and warm metals like copper and brass. I love adding wooden pedestals throughout the home to stack candles or soaps on because it’s such a tactile element.

Another great fall textural element to add is wicker, rattan, or caning!–Really anything woven! I’m also thinking of the woven leather cubes in our living room that bring in some immediate warmth.
