We got this bench a while ago, and refinished it beautifully and it sat in our last home just fine. And then we moved here and somehow it got put outside one day and then it just stayed there day after day until it looked like this:

So sad. The funny thing is, as worn as it looked, we actually used it quite a lot while it sat out there–way more than we did while it was inside–so I realized, hey, this should be an outdoor bench instead of forcing it indoors. So this past weekend I made it outdoor proof and pretty, too.

In June, Clark+Kensington paint partnered with OPI (you know, the nail polish brand!) to create a new color palette with three different collections. It’s a pretty striking palette with all very on-trend colors. What you would expect from a nail polish–except it’s real paint in real paint sizes for walls, furniture, accents. The people at Ace Hardware had to explain it to me a few times. OPI made a house paint palette?!? Why was this not thought of before!? I decided to paint the bench with exterior paint (in gloss) to really help it hold up. The color I chose is called Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! (Maybe you’ve seen it on your nails before?)

It’s a really pretty color with lots of depth. It might look black in dim light, but outside or in a spot where light hits it, the greens and blues come out. Ooo. It’s so good. (So good!) I did a little dipped leg effect (my first one!) on this bench, except kind of reversed in that I kept the “dipped” part wood (coated with satin sealer). I think it modernizes the whole bench!

Isn’t this color great? I may have painted something else with it, too. I’ll spill that at another time. And then I got to thinking, this would be the prettiest for our base cabinets! Even though I JUST painted the cabinets. Truth–it’s a good go-to dark with lots of depth. Also, Charly was posing so sweetly like she wanted her picture taken, so we’ll end on that…

I’m too late to enter the giveaway, but I love that you ended the post with “take luck”! Love Brian Regan! (and the bench looks great!)

  2. jimena says:

great little bench! Love the color!

  3. Giordi Y. says:

Oh, no. This is not good for me. I had already planned to paint my upper cabinets next week and just had the passing thought that if I didn’t like the the wood on the bottom with the white on top then I could paint the lowers too. Of course, I knew that my husband would roll his eyes at another of my projects. But after seeing this color, I’m not sure I can resist.

  4. Love the color! It looks great! Especially the legs!

  5. Samantha says:

Leaving the legs bare really draws attention to the bench. Love it. Love the color also….it’s not as harsh as black if that makes sense….and with a name like that it’s got to be awesome.

  6. I love that you chose that color – out of all those choices, and we picked the same one! (More on that later!) And just like you, we are obsessed with it. It’s such a perfect black!

  7. Great idea to “reverse” the color-dipped effect. I really like the lines of this bench (and isn’t it fun when paint color changes in different light?).

  8. Emily says:

Do I spy a Brian Regan reference? Love it!

  9. Sarah says:

Love the bench! Can’t wait to check out the other colors!
