Last week, we announced that we have the privilege of partnering with Lowe’s this Spring to makeover a space in somebody’s home–interior or exterior–and it could be anywhere in the country! There was a small application window of just 48 hours and over 600 #CLJtotheRescue submissions poured in from all 50 states and DC, too! Wow!
We initially thought we would be able to decide over a couple days, but we were so overwhelmed with the amount of applications and all of your stories, we wanted to read every single one! We laughed hysterically and cried with you, too. Thank you for being so willing to open up your homes to us–that’s a huge deal and we realize that. We have the very best readers and such a wide variety of people and cultures and homes that read Chris Loves Julia. I just wanted to pause and say, we see you and we hear you and we wish we could help all of you! Some of your spaces are so close. Some are very humbling.
With that said, we’re excited to announce….we’ll be headed to Long Island, New York to makeover Jennifer and Ryan Freeman’s space!
They purchased this New York home as a sort of “new beginnings” for their family after a bumpy road and this is what you currently see when you walk into their home:
The Freemans have dreams of it becoming an beautiful entry/sitting room, worthy of a first impression. With a family room to the left and a dining room to the right, the odd-shaped, double-duty space is a challenge we’re up for!
We’re excited to work with Jennifer and Ryan over the next few weeks designing and planning the space and then in April, Chris and I will be flying to Long Island to execute the whirlwind makeover in just 2 days with the help of Lowe’s volunteers.
While it’s heart-breaking that we could only pick one space, the rest of you–don’t you give up! You got this. We’re rooting for you all.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.
SHop all

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

I can’t wait to see how you makeover the space!
How exciting!!! Can’t wait to see the transformation!
Obviously I’m bummed that we didn’t win but the very idea that you guys *might* be coming to my house was just the kick in the butt that I needed to get some of those small projects done. I couldn’t stand the thought that you might see all the little, unfinished details. So this weekend, I’ve painted the last little bit of the kitchen and sanded the boards we’re using for floating shelves in our living room.(we’re using your tutorial for routering out spaces for the brackets.) Here’s to tackling more in the near future (I’m looking at you, ugly laundry room wall paper!)
Congrats to the Freemans! Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
I’m sad my yellow cabinets and weird bump-out wall didn’t win.. But psyched to see how you guys transform the Freeman’s space. I know it will be great. Always so inspired by you guys, C&J!
I CAN NOT wait to see what you do with this space. We are in the middle of a remodel of our house that is full of beautiful real wood paneling, both horizontal and vertical and ceiling planking, along with our now White Dove walls scattered throughout. We have totally embraced the real wood and its gorgeous with all the soft white balancing it out. I hope you are going to embrace the wood, if its real :) Look forward to watching!
OMG…pleeeeease whitewash those amazing walls. It would look so good!
I think it’d be pretty cool if you challenged the other contestants to make over their space (or a portion of it) during the time your in Long Island. It’d be nice to see some of the projects and issues people are dealing with around the country. I know this is a contest with the makeover being a “prize” – which I’m excited to see – but it’d also be nice to see some examples of a family taking on their own renovations in a couple days.
I LOVE this idea! I’m gonna think about the logistics and would love to work it out somehow, too!
This IS a great idea! I would also love to see our own applicants be surprised at how they CAN totally make changes to start their room transformations. :)
This is a great idea! I think it would motivate some people to jump in and tackle their spaces once and for all (I’m thinking of my mint and black bathroom that wasn’t chosen but that’s not going to stop me!) It would be cool to see before and afters of some of those spaces on your blog.
Wow! I love the owner’s personal touch peeking through with throws and the little bits of furniture. This seems like a match made in heaven! I can’t wait to see this space with CLJ’s magic touch! Happy Everything to the Freeman’s and go Lowes for making dreams happen! They’ve always been our go to place for projects.
Congratulations to the Freemans! While I would have loved to win, they seem like a very deserving couple. Best of luck on this project!
Yay for the Freeman’s!!!!!!! So excited to see the reveal!
congrats to the freemans! maybe you could giveaway a few design moodboards (featuring lowe’s products) for a few of the other spaces? the person would be responsible to buy and complete.
I love this idea!
Congrats to the lucky couple!!! So excited to see how you transform this space!!!
