Before Chris had his surgery, we made a list of projects that I could probably tackle myself and our bedroom was at the top of that list. Our poor, sad, neglected room we haven’t touched since moving in, with the exception of new flooring.
We’ve since moved those lamps onto the fauxdenza in the living room and the frog tape experiment is still on the wall…so it somehow got even worse than the photo above! This week, I am patching that small section of drywall that was rotted from improperly sealed windows and painting the walls–finally! I’ve been giving that bright blue accent wall the stink eye for 18 months.
You saw on Instagram yesterday the plethora of paint chips I was deciding between. I love putting any and all options up on a nice, sunny blank wall in the room first. Anything goes. I usually quickly narrow it down to just a handful. Within 3 minutes, I had it narrowed down to these 8:
(From left to right: Top Row–Feathers of a Dove, Cool Sea Air Middle Row–Chalk, Alpine Peak, Snowflake Bottom Row: Cadet Song, Flannel Gray, White Pistachio)
As you can see, they are still pretty much all over the board. Some lights, darks, cool and warm paint colors. This is when I bring Chris in–after all, it’s his room, too. He quickly pulled 4 more off the wall he didn’t care for and we were able to choose our final color together from that point. I hope to have those photos for you on Friday! That’s my goal. To have the wall patched and painted by then. In the meantime, here’s where we’re headed with the rest of the room:
sheets | bed | lamps | rug | drapes | art
Even in our last house, we never really did much with our bedroom, so this project has me more excited than normal. I am taking extra care to make this room special and a space Chris and I can both love for a long time. A good balance of masculine and feminine and a lot of coziness. I’ll be back Friday with an update! Any guesses on which paint color we went with?
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

We recently painted our study a dark, moody green color. This is after we first painted it a muddy green, then repainted it a blue-gray. I guess what they say is true; third time’s a charm! The journey was worth it, though, because I’m so in love with this glossy green in contrast with the […]

that cb2 wall sconce has been on my radar for awhile..such a great price point. i hope it looks as nice in person as it does online! can’t wait to see this room come together. your inspiration is lovely.
I guess you will use light color for your bed room.
I love that you’re going dark. And, um, rug envy.
One of my favorite master bedrooms is Dana from House Tweaking. It is a great cozy gender neutral bedroom. I’m determined to buy that bedspread someday!!
Can’t wait to see the new bed arrive!
Ooo yes. One of my favorites, too!
Painting my bedroom dark was one of the best decisions in my house. We have a tiny room with 2 windows (and 2 doors) so the dark isnt overwhelming even at night. I tried approximately 11 colors on the wall from 2 stores and my moms garage. Then I walked into a friend’s freshly painted bedroom and almost screamed “this is it!!!”. Went straight to the store and its perfect.
cool sea air!
exciting!!! Can you tell me what you plan to do with the ceiling fan + four poster? I actually nixed getting a four poster bed because we have a ceiling fan that just looks like it’s in the way. but, maybe it can be done???
Sadly, I don’t know if I am going to be much help. We are just nixing the ceiling fan altogether. We only use it about 3 months out of the year (the light doesn’t even work on it! haha) and will likely just use a floor or table fan during warmer months.
I’d love to redo our room, but we are renting so there is very little I can get away with here!
I vote Cadet Song – I love lighter wood paired with dark walls! But I’ve been loving everything you do so who cares ;-)
Another deeper paint color vote. Sneeky trick holding us in suspense!
Ohhh, there might be a sneak peek on Instagram later. ;)
Ha, my guess was right!
What paint line did you pull these colors from?
Thanks!
All of them are Valspar for Ace Hardware except Chalk is from Clark+Kensington.
The mood board is gorgeous. It totally inspires me to get our room fully done. (We are a year into living in a full fixer upper — everything is kinda half-done.) I especially love the rug. I mean I love it all, but lately I’ve been really catching onto how awesome rugs are….I think our room needs to take a cue.
I could see any of those colors working — the room’s pieces are so good, pretty much any color would just make them better. I tried to guess, but gave up. :)
Haha. All of the paint colors are SUPPOSED to go with the mood board, so don’t feel bad. I designed the mood board and then picked paint swatches that would go well. They are all winners in my book.
This mood board is beautiful! I love the color scheme. My guess would be that you chose one of the deeper paint colors.
I am so excited to see what you come up with….you always have such great reveals! One thing that worries me is the bed……I worry with the canopy part it will take up too much room visually. But if you love it….do it :)
Once the ceiling fan is outta there, I think we’ll be okay. This bed kind of started the whole vision. I saw it last summer in Crate & Barrel and have had it on my wish list ever since!
Then go for it! It’s what you love that really matters in the end :)
I’m guessing Feathers of a Dove :)
My guess is top left based on your pinterest.
If it was me though, I’d do bottom left. My boyfriend would kill me at first, but he’s learned to just let me go cuz it normally turns out really nice.
Great plans! I’m hoping you chose the dark dark gray. If you’re looking for cozy with a balance of masculine and feminine, lately that’s my choice. Our dark bedroom is so cozy, without feeling like a cave. Plus, it’d look amazing with the other elements you shared.
That bed! swooooon. The mood board is gorgeous. Mature, cozy and fresh. Can’t wait to see you work your magic. Our bedroom is the most neglected project in the house. This inspires me to do something about it. I love that even with Chris down, you’re going to get started. I often rely on my husband to do remodels. But this is inspiring me!
I wanted you to choose Cool Sea Air Middle but from the mood board photos I’m guessing Cadet Song.
