Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

I was browsing Pinterest  the other day and came upon this:

I immediately repinned it to my “home decor” board (I’m talking Pinterest talk….you gotta get on this bandwagon.  I’ll even send you an invite if you want.  It has changed my life.) where I stash all of my inspiration for upcoming projects I feel I HAVE TO do in my house.  This particular treasure, is actually a print for purchase, which happens to not be available in the US.  Darn.

I could not stop looking at it, and even considered making it the wallpaper on my laptop, but I love seeing Chris’s face more–and then I knew I had to adopt it as our home’s color palette.  When I showed Chris and asked what he thought, his response was just as I thought it would be, “I think you just caused an aneurism in my brain. What am I looking at? There are like over 100 different colors.”  Hahaha.  You might be thinking the same thing,  but the more you look at it and dissect it, you’ll see a simple repeated pattern of colors.  When you break it down, the artist-slash-genius rearranged two of the squares filled with quarter-circles three times.  Confused?  Let me simplify:

That’s where I’m getting my entire house’s palette.  Don’t get me wrong, that’s still a lot of colors to choose from, but some things will show up in woodwork, furniture and accessories instead of on the walls.  You may already recognize the colors of our living room accent wall and Greta’s room popping out, but here’s what else we’re thinking as far as paint colors go:

Surprised by some of the picks?  Painting is DEFINITELY on my to-do list to do this week.  Although we have a lot more rooms to finalize color choices, It feels so good to have a palette nailed down.  It makes the selection process so much easier and working with these bright, saturated colors really speaks to us.  We love color and we knew we wanted splashes of it throughout the house.  So now that it feels like all of our secrets are out, what does your home’s color palette look like?  Have you found it yet?  Is it in the form of a necklace?  Napkin? Print?

Jules- Hey! Its been a while. (Greta is beautiful!) Ive been reading your blogs when Im supposed to be researching for a school paper (your blogs are way more fun to read than opinions on plays written in the 1800s). I recently moved into a new space and I’m currently trying to “make it mine”. I love your design ideas (I’m totally spray paiting my mirror this weekend). I checked out Pinterest (love it), and was wondering if you could send me an invite. Hope all continutes to go well with your new home (love the pics). :)

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
