This week, we’re installing a master bedroom we designed in a model home for Clayton Homes. They’re in the business of affordable, manufactured homes and they wanted us to show how luxurious it can feel–while still on a budget. So we took $2500 and designed a bedroom that feels like a million bucks. We’ll be sharing all the after photos and a video really soon of how it turned out, but we’ll be sharing the install in real time this week–it’s a blank slate!!–and I wanted you to have all the sources in one spot.
Here’s what I came up with:
Area Rug Red/Navy 9×12 $378
Queen Bed $549
Navy Belgian Flax Linen Bed Sheet Set $121
Quilt: $119
Caned Nightstands: $107/each
Dome Lamps $60/each
Chandelier $129
Wall Color: Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray
Curtains: Cool Beige, $113/panel
Curtain Rod: $30
Desk/Vanity: $349
Stool : $149
Curved Desk Lamp: $59
Brass Planter: $39
Candle: $34
Here’s how it looks right now:
So yeah, the blankest of slates, really. There are no baseboards in the entire house and they just want us to do the master bedroom and bathroom. So I feel like the no baseboard thing has to stay consistent, BUT, I’d love to add a wall treatment or trim to the back wall to amp up the luxury. Can’t wait to bring you along on this one because we’ve only seen in ONCE in person and I am just hoping that it all comes together. We’ll be there Tuesday and Wednesday. So follow along @chrislovesjulia on Instagram to see us in action and most likely, troubleshooting, in real time.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.
SHop all

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Love! Can you link the end of bed throw?
Those curtains look absolutely luxurious. Hope they look that good in the room. I’m curious about the wall treatment; paneled molding with a deep moody color?
I love seeing these quick makeovers come together! Hopefully the manufacturer will love what you do and bring you back again. Or your sisters will want your help…
I’m wondering how you’d paint the walls that die directly into carpet.
You can either tape off the carpet or hold a piece of plastic/cardboard against it as you paint that portion and then release!
Can’t wait to see how this comes together. I’ll be sure following along to see the journey!
Seriously so excited for a bedroom with NO white bedding!! As pretty as it always is, we can’t seem to keep it clean!
I look forward to seeing your install! No baseboards in the entire house? I’m intrigued! Is the idea that the eventual homeowners will DIY, or is this a new thing in home construction?
Hi, there! I hate to bother you with a silly question like this, but how is the construction of platform? I’ve been looking *everywhere* for a black metal bed that is actually sturdy (the reviews of metal beds are all over the place), and I’m at the point where I’ll need to redesign a room if I don’t find one! Thank you in advance and good luck with the install.
I will let you know as soon as we put it together!
Following along…love the looks of this bed but wonder about quality. Ready to upgrade to a king!
This is also my concern. The price is attractive but I am wondering how it will hold up under… vigorous activity :)
This is my question too. I’m never sure how to ask it though so thank you for putting it out there.
I love the rug and that little stool- can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
