Meagan’s Dilemma

I got an email from one of my besties in need of some inspiration in the home decor department, specifically in the master bedroom. They are renters (just like us!) so they can’t paint, but that definitely doesn’t mean that you can’t introduce a lot of color and warmth. Here’s her e-mail:

I was trying to find our bedding from the Ikea website and I guess they don’t have it anymore. I need some Julia inspiration for our bedroom style…I LOVE the bedspread and I’m loving like warm yummy greens. I saw the bedspread ad in the Ikea magazine and they matched with nice rich greens with charcoal grey textured pillows. I LOVED that. They had this fuzzy green throw. –Meagan

Don’t you love their bedspread, too? We love it Meagan and Ryan! And, not only do you have a great start with the duvet choice, but you also have two great his/her nightstands and a blank canvas other than that–all things right up my alley. I put all of those things plus some of those warm greens that you have been eyeing together on a seriously fierce mood board that makes me want to redo my room–(again).

Here’s what I’m thinking:

Are you feeling more cozy already? A couple things you should recognize right off the bat: Your bedspread and the pic of yourselves, but we’ll get to that one. First things first!

1. Okay, so number one really represents dark charcoal pillow cases to replace your white ones. (I noticed those hiding under there.) Just by changing out those white pillow cases for something significantly darker, you have already revamped your bed and added some depth. I would scout out Ross for these, or even Walmart.

2. With the darker pillows underneath the pillow shams that match your duvet, it begs for some light and color–which is where these lovelies come in. (Found here, here and here). The upper left one can ~~easily~~ be DIYed with an old button down shirt, and the one front and center is the color inspiration for some other “yummy” accents.

3. Table lamps. You’re so lucky you have nightstands already, because lamps are going to be so easy now. I chose two different styles, because your stands already matched–this will create some interest. However, I would stick to the same color in base and shade. That doesn’t mean you have to buy these exact ones that I found here, but it does give you some wiggle room. Maybe even an excuse to scout out the thrift stores. Find some funky shapes–and if they aren’t the same color: spray paint them!

4. Check out these curtains, eh! Lucky for you, you know how to sew (I start my sewing class Friday!)–so when you are looking for fabric, choose a nice gray and make ’em looonnnngggg. Ceiling to floor curtains will help your room look a lot bigger.

5. This shelf from Ikea (doesn’t have to be) would really help fill some of that wall space above your bed, not to mention, house some other accents. I chose a warm birch color (as opposed to white or black) because of the earthy tones and natural prints we have going on elsewhere in the room.

6. Candles! It is a bedroom…I think I’ll make room for some in our master as well. Get some that match the front and center pillow and place them off to one side of the shelf above your bed.

7. These postcards (only $5!!!) not only have a nature theme to them, but they are also showcasing beautiful greens (you love) and blues (for variation….and I love *wink*). The one’s pictured are only 5×7’s, but with a mat, in an 8×10 frame, you’d be golden hanging them on the wall above the shelf in a straight line as pictured.

8. Can I get an “ooohhhhh, ahhhhhh” on that picture, please? Hello? An 8×10 black and white (I love this pic of the ultimate power couple, themselves), in a nice white frame sitting on that shelf would do wonders personalizing the room AND tying in the gray color scheme.

9. Since green is what you envy, I say add some of the real stuff–or the fake stuff, that looks real depending on the color of your thumb. This little 6″ guy is under $8 and would add so much charm on one of the nightstands.

10. On the other nightstand, I would love to see the most adorable ceramic owl I have ever seen….or something like it. It’s the right color, size, theme. Ahhhh! I love it when I strike gold!

11. Lastly, a warm a cozy throw to hang lay over the bottom of your bed. Choose one with cooler undertones like this one in “oregano,” so that the warm greens can really shine, but the eyes still have a place to rest.

Speaking of rest, I would love to in this room! What do you think? What would you add…or maybe even subtract? I hope this helps, Meags. When you lone manipulate a very important factor once you are save your time
and slowing chaos. The good thing regarding all the

residence searching the same as received ever in the future investigated.

Okay- So are you doing this for everyone or just them? hahaha I was just telling my sister yesterday how much I hate how our apartment is decorated but I have ZERO ideas! I am seriously impressed. You should get some ‘after’ pics or their room. You have a gift.:)

okay, soooo when can you fly out to shop and craft with me?? LOL the process may be slooooow, but this project is WORTH it because this bedroom is ideal and could be around for a LONG time because those ideas are goooorgeous.
