Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Our home has been on the market for 2 days now (hooowwwww has it only been two days?! see the listing here!) and we are swamped with showings and keeping it ready, while juggling kids and working on finishing the Fullmer’s kitchen before Kelsi has her baby any minute now. But in the midst of all that, we are reminiscing on the last 6 wonderful years here. A lot of people have asked us, “How could you leave?! You didn’t even get to enjoy it!” But the truth is, we’ve been enjoying this home all along. And while there are some things we’ll miss (I love our heated bathroom floors so much…and everything else about our bathroom, for that matter!), we’re taking all the important people and lessons with us to our next house.

My favorite way we’ve documented progress over the years is through annual house tour videos. You can find them all on our YouTube channel! But please enjoy the very last one of this home below:

It’s really something when you watch it back to back with our very first house tour we did 6 years ago, when we first bought this home:

We’ve come a long way, baby. Can’t wait to share with you our new home in a few weeks time!

ugh! i got a little teary-eyed watching this house tour. i have been following you since 2016, which by then a lot of the house was looking amazing already. watching the first house tour is such a reminder that all good things take time, patience, and a whole lot of heart. i’m so excited to cheer you on as you guys tackle on the next house.

My Instagram was hacked months ago and I’ve never been able to regain access! Low and behold I finally remembered to check in and saw your updates!

If my husband didn’t live so close to work I’d make him move to Rexburg and live it up in that backyard during the summer!

Good luck on selling and your future home. Can’t wait to see it!

  3. Charlene says:

Your home is gorgeous! I cannot wait to see your new home, and all the beautiful work you will put into it :)

  4. PJ says:

When do we get a sneak peek at your new place? I know I can’t be the only one who feels like a kid at Christmas to see it…

  5. Finula says:

Julia, I LOVE your style and every single room in your house. I live on the east coast & have a great house but struggle with design choices i.e. furniture, curtains, etc. Do you ever help out from afar? Any options to send you pictures of my rooms to get your advice/recommendations?

  6. Jether Banquerigo says:

May I know please why you are moving? This is such a beautiful house!

  7. Patricia says:

Sorry to see you move on from some place you’ve worked so hard on but you need to keep moving forward like a shark only more DIY instead of bloodthirsty. And I’ll have the fun of seeing the new home from start to finish. Can’t wait for the magic to happen.

  8. Katy says:

If you do a Q&A, I would LOVE to know if you were able to recoup all your costs you put in to the house and even make a profit to help put in all the work in the next house. Not asking for specific numbers at all. Being from Atlanta, this price seems SO so so so so low, it’s hard for me to imagine coming out on top with all the work you put in to it, but I have no concept of the Idaho market. So, just curious!

Love the house tours and cannot wait to follow along with your new house- y’all have incredible vision!!

We listed and staged our house last month (the week our third babe was born) and it was INSANE. We had a showing THE DAY we came home from the hospital and had to whip the house into shape with a two day old, 3 and 5 year old, and newborn and life stuff strewn everywhere. We had two showings a day for the next week before we grabbed the first offer we got (which thankfully was a great cash offer) out of sheer desperation and exhaustion. I totally get you when you say you have a lot on your plate during listing your house ????

Wishing you guys the best of luck and a quick sale!! Thanks for all the incredible inspiration!!!

I am forever grateful for to this website for the Tomcat, VR114A, Valspar paint color. It is my favorite dark, almost black paint color.

But, I actually found this website when looking into wood-look tile. I installed then instantly regretted the wood-look tile. It has since been redone with wood. :-)

  11. Victoria says:

I know a new house means lots of new ideas and things, but I’d love to see a post on which things you love so much that you’re planning to do again.

    • Courtney says:

I love this idea. For example, was the green tile in the master bath specific to that space or would you use that tile again? I imagine the double range would be used again in the new house! :)

  12. Jamie says:

It’s so wonderful that you put your heart into this home from day one. The future owners will definitely be able to feel that. You guys are great! I’m excited for your next place!! I’m hoping you’ll once again let us live out our designing & DIY dreams vicariously through you… if not, that’s cool, too. ????

  13. Kate says:

Oh Chris and Julia, it has been a pleasure watching your home journey! I, too, have gathered a lot of inspiration from you guys. I am putting my house on the market in 2 days (!!!) and am so nervous about it; we also have kids and I don’t know how it is going to work keeping up with showings, but hoping for a fast sale for us and for you!

P.S. Our exterior home photos were also taken at twilight and right after we took them I saw that you said you are always drawn to those photos when browsing houses online. I felt validated! Haha <3

  14. Jamie says:

Wow! The contrast between the first home tour and the last is SO inspiring. The laundry/garage entry/powder bath change just blows my mind. I think it shows how much smarter it is to live in a space for a little while before making big changes. I’m so excited for your next adventure!

  15. Ashley says:

I noticed the listing has 4 bathrooms listed. Is there another bathroom we never saw? Master, powder room, girls bath….?

    • Julia says:

On the MLS it’s correct (we have three) but Zillow for some reason added an extra

      • Jennifer says:

Only Zillow remembers the little half bath that became the laundry room! ;)

Your home is lovely. Such vision you had 6 years ago! I’m so impressed. I wouldn’t have bought your house 6 years ago!!

      • Julia says:

        Hahaha, yes!

      • Suzanne says:

You can go on zillow, as an owner, and change house facts that are wrong! Seems like your real estate agent should know that!

  16. I have drawn so much inspiration from this house and have loved watching your journey with it so so much. Can’t wait to see what the next one brings for you and your family! Do you have any spaces eyed to tackle first already?

  17. Jenny says:

Not sure if this is feasible for you guys, but when we sold our house (with 4 kids 6 and under), we went away for a week. Thankfully the market here is hot and we had an offer come in that week while we were gone! So much easier than living in a space, with kids, that needs to stay perfect!!

    • Julia says:

I wish it were feasible for us. Our girls are in school, we have Willow (our dog), we’re working on the kitchen down the street. ???? we’re just pushing through!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
