We were not planning on doing an outdoor shower until our contractor asked if there’s going to be a shower in the pool bathroom. There’s only going to be enough room for either a stacked washer and dryer, or a shower, but not both. Lately we’ve been leaning more and more towards washer and dryer for towels and suits so our minds were open to an outdoor shower… and he really talked us into it.
Apparently it’s not that hard to add an outdoor shower if you already have a hose spout already plumbed and so we’re going for it. Right in this little nook next to our bedroom, (just use your imagination) there’s going to be steps that lead down into the shower. It definitely won’t be a naked shower situation but it will be somewhat private with a dividing brick wall with a lattice top, similar to our other brick walls.
They’ve already made so much progress since we made this decision a couple weeks ago!
The moment we decided to move forward with the shower, I took to Pinterest and saved a bunch of images to my outdoor shower board to get the gears turning.

Yes, we are mounting the shower fixture directly onto the brick and I think it’s going to be stunning. We would especially love to include a hand sprayer attachment like this.

Naturally patina’d red brick and copper plumbing. Stunning.
Wouldn’t mind showering in this overgrown, shady oasis.

I’m not saying we’re going to have a sink with the shower, but I’m not saying no to a mirror, especially an organic one like this. I also love seeing the shower mounted on this beautiful stone.
I can see it all coming together and can’t wait to share more!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

We recently painted our study a dark, moody green color. This is after we first painted it a muddy green, then repainted it a blue-gray. I guess what they say is true; third time’s a charm! The journey was worth it, though, because I’m so in love with this glossy green in contrast with the […]

We are in Wilmington, NC & LOVE our outdoor shower. A quick suggestion- it does freeze here. See if your plumber can add a shut off valve & a drainage valve. In the winter, turn off the shower, drain, and insulate!
We LOVE our outdoor shower! There’s nothing like the peace of showering outdoors. It serves as our family’s primary shower during the summer months (and has for years!). It also gets a ton of use from our guests, both day trippers to our beach town and our overnight guests all choose to shower outside instead of indoors when given the option.
We have an outdoor shower in Wilmington :) It is so convenient for after beach days, after working in the yard, and also for washing the dogs! It has hot water and we keep nice shampoo and soap so it is luxurious. Our is private tho, as we actually use it as a shower, not just a place to rinse off. We have towel hooks and a place to put dry clothes. It is wonderful- and our indoor showers stay very clean in the summer.
Oooh love it! I want an outdoor shower too.
Highly recommend hot and cold water with full privacy. Otherwise it will be hardly used. From my experience growing up with a pool. Good luck! It’s going to be awesome at your house this summer!
We have long thought about this too, and your inspiration pics are gorgeous, of course. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out. I also have the question about whether you’ll have hot water or just cold? We’re in Austin and could get away with just cold, but if warm is an option without too much construction, that would be nice!
We definitely are going with warm and cool. Our shower is right behind this wall so it won’t be hard to tap into.
I would love an outdoor shower. Just wondering if you will have warm water and if that would be easy to realize (with only having an gardenhose spout as a starting point). Your yard/pool are going to be so beautiful, thank you for sharing.
You may also want to consider transforming one of the windows in your primary bath into french doors for easy access as well, once you begin that project. Can you or Chris give us an update on outdoor kitchen appliances? Hopefully, you won’t have to wait as long for your refrigeration units.
Huge fan of outdoor showers! You’ll be taking real ones out there in no time ;). Lauren Liess created an amazing one off her primary a few houses ago.
I think you should consider making a shower enclosure for privacy. It’s so convenient to be able to use an outdoor shower in the summer and your girls will love it!
I second this. If it’s enclosed for privacy, you will use this shower more than you think. There is nothing like showering in the sunshine and open air. We’re much further north (NY) and we use ours from late March until Thanksgiving. It gets much more use than any of our indoor showers.
