Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

The other day, while stashing some art away (I rotate things quite a bit), I couldn’t stop myself from putting a few holes in the wall and hanging fresh art for us to enjoy. Technically, these two abstract canvases aren’t mine to keep.  After all, they are still for sale in our Etsy shop, but I couldn’t not hang them up on our bare hallway walls and enjoy them until they find a new home.  They make a pretty handsome pair side by side.
Diagonally from my Ikat-inspired abstracts I hung a small print my sister gave me for her wedding.  It is of the Pittsburgh skyline where I and my whole family grew up.  I love it.  I love it because it is a piece of Pittsburgh and my sister and lastly, because it is small.
I don’t have a lot of small art hanging on the walls.  I gravitate toward really big pieces, but this one–perfectly situated on a pint-sized wall–makes our home feel more…homey.  Like, “I didn’t forget about you little, skinny wall.  Here’s a piece of art just for you.”
Which is probably making our bedroom wonder if we forgot about it.  We finally hung some white curtains in our bedroom, but I still haven’t found the right art for above the bed (or a colorful throw for the foot).

I fell hard for these six moon photogravure prints from Restoration Hardware.  How perfect would a pair look above our bed?

$800 good?  For two?!  Nah. Maybe I could draw up something similar to this putting our initials into the original design, framed above the bed.

I’m officially on the hunt.  Although I don’t mind the bare wall (actually), it could just be because it has been bare for so long that I am used to it. What hangs above your bed? Art?  A mirror?  Night time art? Something lovey-dovey?

What do you think?

Wayno, a famous Pittsburgh artist, did that drawing for us, with a limited number of prints. The people who helped with our wedding are the only people who have them. I’m glad you’re displaying it prominently :)

  2. Beautiful lamps in your bedroom – and I agree, it’s wonderful to have a piece of art that’s just right for every wall including the tiny ones :)

  3. I love those Ikat paintings and hope to make one mine some day! I don’t have anything hanging above my bed either and I’m on the hunt like you are. If you find something good but pass on it, send it my way, okay? ;)

  4. i love the moon art! So fun for a bedroom. Have you checked somewhere out of the box like a science museum? I feel like you could find prints like this in a gift shop for much less than RH!

right now we have absolutely zero art on the walls in the bedroom. All we do have in there is the mattress on the floor, some odd mismatched side tables, and old dresser and that is about it. Bedroom makeover is on the list!!

That picture really shows how big those paintings are! What a great size. We are no artwork in our house. Being in transition constantly and changing colors and spaces is draining. We haven’t put up much in our current place because I really don’t want to deal with taking it down and dealing with the holes than are left behind.

LOVE your bedroom. It looks so cozy.

  7. The moon prints! Stunning, I tell you. I’m glad you’re enjoying the ikats. You should! :)

The wall above my bed is also blank, awaiting the perfect piece. Haven’t found it yet.

  9. I love your Etsy art! It’s soooo gorgeous!! Good luck on your bedroom art hunt! :)

Check out the animal print shop. They have great, neutral, fun pieces that would look great over a bed. Good luck!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
