Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

I once heard, “you’re not sick; you’re thirsty,” and although I realize this is a blanket statement, it really made me evaluate my h2o intake. Hydration can do wonders for health, so I’m always making sure I get enough water throughout the day, but sometimes I like to mix it up (literally) by drinking more than just water. In my mind, drinking water is great, but mixing it with some greens could be even better! So here are all of the beverages I drink throughout any given day.

Drink Station Sources

Years ago, I started prioritizing working out, and it has become the keystone to my morning routine. To fuel said workout, I’ve been drinking this pre-workout for years, and it’s so good (tiger’s blood is my favorite). Unfortunately, I’ve been having some flare-ups with my health and cutting out ingredients more and more, so I’m no longer taking pre-workout (boo). This sounds all very dramatic as I’m typing it out, but I’ve really come to love my pre-workout! Regardless of my health issues, I recommend this Upper Limit brand to all my friends!

Better Greens

I’ve been trying out this Better Greens brand to replace my pre-workout. You can purchase it with or without caffeine, and I go for the caffeine! At this point, I’m not interested in cutting out caffeine, and while it’s no Tiger’s Blood, I like how my body feels when I drink this! I sip on it while I’m driving to the gym, and by the time I get there, stop by the lockers, and start moving, I’m feeling good to go!

While I’m working out, I drink a full 30 oz in this Stanley flip straw tumbler. It’s the perfect amount to keep me nice and hydrated during my sweat sesh, and it has become my designated gym water bottle. I drink 40oz from my work Stanley, and after work, I fill up my home Stanley and try to make it through another 40oz before bed.

Years ago, when I started trying to manage my thyroid issues, I implemented fresh celery into my morning routine. I did it consistently for months and then stopped for a while, but as I said, I’ve been having some recent flare-ups, so I’m back on the celery juice kick! It’s something that’s talked about immensely in this Thyroid Healing book, and I have noticed it seems to be helping. I put a full stalk through the juicer and drink it fresh after the gym.

Another thing I drink, per the Thyroid Healing book, is a “Thyroid Healing Smoothie.” It calls for 2 cups of frozen mango, one banana, and 1 cup of water. You can add a bunch of extra things, but I like to add one scoop of my athletic greens. I drink this after my celery juice, usually while I’m getting ready for the day.

Athletic Greens has never sponsored me, but I’ve been a fan of theirs since I tried them about two years ago. Their comprehensive green blend is packed with vitamins & minerals, pre & probiotics, digestive & immunity support, and much more. I like to think that it’s filling in all the gaps where my daily nutrients might be lacking. I actually really like the taste just mixed with water, but I feel like I’m multi-tasking when I mix it with my mango & banana smoothie.

Sometimes in the afternoon, I need a little pick-me-up. Since I’ve cut out soda completely (occasionally, I’ll cave for a diet DP), I still like to have something fun to sip on when that afternoon lull hits. This Hint water always satisfies the craving. I love the cherry, but my current favorite is the coconut, and if I’m really feeling wild, I’ll pour it on the rocks and add a squeeze of fresh lime. Yum. Bonus points for being able to drink it without taking out my Invisalign.

I feel like drinking bone broth is all the rage these days. I’ve been on a bone broth kick because of all the incredible benefits, but I also find it to be super comforting and soothing, especially on a colder day. This EPIC bone broth is delicious and packed with 12 grams of protein and collagen, and it’s good for your bone and joint health. I’m not much of a hot drink person, but I love warming this up in a mug and sipping on it–good for the soul!

I mentioned in My Skincare Routine that I keep this drink a tablespoon of this collagen every night before I take all my vitamins. I keep it in the fridge (it’s better cold) and do a little swig straight from the bottle. The taste took some getting used to, but I really like it now. It has made the biggest difference in the brightness and hydration of my skin!

If you haven’t noticed, I’m a bit of a routines gal. My routines are what keep my busy days flowing smoothly and (without sounding dramatic) are the foundation of my day-to-day life. Eventually, the routine becomes habitual, and those little bits end up making a bigger impact over time. I like to create rituals around my mornings and my evenings because the more enticing I make it, the more rewarding it is, and the more rewarding it is, the more likely I am to do it! You get it.

What do you think?

  1. Sarah says:

Amazing. Thanks for all the tips.

I just saw that you store all your mugs laying down. Is that just a wine rack? Brilliant

  2. Leela Ruiz says:

How coincidental! I just started trying out some of the Spoiled Child products, including the collagen. I don’t notice a difference yet not now I’ll keep at it and try in the evening too as I take a lot of supplements in the am. I am really loving the Spoiled Child face serum.

Is Athletic Greens organic? I do Organifi Green Juice powder but it’s soooo pricey (and delicious and organic with all the good stuff!).

I have Hashimoto’s and am inspired to try celery juice now!

I agree, routines make good habits and I’m always finding ways to be more effective here so thanks for the reminder and good example Julia ❣️

  3. Barbara Annett says:

Julia, I was wondering about your collagen supplement, I also have Hashimoto’s and I’ve been told that colllagen should not be taken with thyroid medication. Have you noticed any change is your levels?

    • I don’t take anything within 4 hours of taking my thyroid medication. I take all vitamins and supplements in the afternoon/evening and my thyroid medication early in the morning

  4. Callie says:

After the AG1, are the additional vitamins you take at night specific to your health needs? I’m trying to be better at making sure I’m getting all my vitamins in and am always curious as to what others take/supplement. Can’t wait to try the bone broth! I bet it’s be nice before bed as a nice way to wind down! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Erin says:

Just ordered the spoiled child. Curious if you have ever used any other liquid collagen such as Modere? Also wondering if this has had any impact on your Hair?

  6. Penny says:

    Thank you for this!

  7. Tracy Williams says:

Wondering what you mix your Better Greens with. They sound like exactly what we’ve been looking for. Thank you for sharing!

  8. Linda says:

Question: with so many dietary restrictions and specialized food, how do you (or do you?) practice food storage and prep for emergency preparedness regarding food? I am the self reliance coordinator for my Stake and would love to be able to share some insights with families in similar situations.

    • We have dried food storage that lasts 25 years stored. Mostly whole, dried foods in case of emergency. But we don’t rotate anything in or out. It’s there for strictly an emergency since we eat mostly fresh day to day.

  9. Christa Buchanan says:

I love this post! Thank you! I have to take several medications in the morning on an empty stomach and struggle to squeeze allll the good morning drinks in but now I’m seriously reevaluating if it’s possible!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
