Title: Ep 11: Make it Happen, Cap’n – Taking on Projects You’ve Never Done Before
Hot Topic: Selling Your Home as a For Sale By Owner
Show Notes: One thing we hear from people all the time is, “How do you guys know how to do all this stuff?” Usually followed by some version of, “I could never do that.” But here’s the thing – you can do it.
In this episode, Chris & Julia talk about how they go about tackling a project for the first time and give suggestions on how to get through the fear of the unknown that keeps so many people from making progress. Start somewhere and make it happen!

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Hey Guys – I LOVE your podcasts – Chris is HILARIOUS, Julia is super sweet, and Preston pulls it all together so well. I have a suggestion for another podcast: when updating a house how do you decide on lighting? I’m in the process of updating our builder fixtures and I’m struggling with finding lighting for different rooms that aren’t identical but are also cohesive. Is it okay to use a mix of black fixtures and gold fixtures throughout, are different shapes okay? I want to keep it all in the modern vein but I’m unsure if it’s all going to jive. Are there guidelines you’d suggest for ensuring cohesive interesting picks?
Thanks!!
I’ve been listening to your podcasts- love them! I wanted to know if you have any updates on your gallery wall on the basement stairs. I haven’t seen any posts on it lately and I really loved how it looked in its beginning stage. I also remember reading your post on reflecting on certain purchases and would you/would you not do it again and it seemed you were iffy on that wall. Would love to see/hear some updates on the gallery wall and chandelier pendant! Thanks!
I ended up taking down all the pictures in the gallery wall. Sometimes I just need to start fresh, you know? We’re replacing the stair banisters and I think we’ll do some sort of wall treatment in the stairway instead of pictures. And I’m still on the hunt for the perfect fixture!
