light fixture | maple tree | tub | tile
We played a little game of musical lights this week around the house. The music room light (which was an extra from our home office) is now in the bathroom (see above! love it!). The lantern that was above the tub was so beautiful, but because it was see through, there were so many lines intersecting with the windows, so it now lives happily in the laundry room which I think will be a great starting point when we tackle that room. And the laundry room chandelier (that was here when we moved in!) is going to hang in Polly’s room! It’s whimsical and I think it will go beautifully in there just as soon as we get the ceiling wallpapered.
I also ordered some warm wood shades for our bathroom window that should be here be the end of the month and I’m working on curtains again, too. Something striped and bordered is what’s in my mind–just gotta find the right ones! I’m enjoying taking my time on these finishing touches to be honest. Most of our reveals have some sort of deadline attached to them and although I dying to reveal the full bathroom, I want to be patient and finish it in a way that I’ll be proud of for a long time to come.
Other fun things this week!
As you’ve heard, we’re starting our kitchen renovation in a few months, but it’s in full force planning and designing behind the scenes right now. Follow along with my modern cottage kitchen board on Pinterest to see where my head is.
Maybe all your bed needs is one giant lumbar pillow. (I traded all of our extra throw pillows for just one of these and I’m so happy in the simplicity)
Did you SEE Marie Kondo’s new collection with the Container Store?! Loving this ceramic bulk canisters and these bamboo bins! And normally I avoid pantry labels at all cost, but these I’m down with.

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Love the “musical lights”! What light fixture will you put in the music room?
Still deciding :)
What rug is shown in your closet Julia?
This is the Rosemarie Ivory/Natural from our line with Loloi!
Love the new light in the bathroom, can’t wait to see how the curtains shake out!!
Hi- Was the laundry room chandelier the item that you mentioned the previous owners wanted back? Or was that a different fixture? Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.
They want the laundry room door, not light. :)
omg How exciting to see the kitchen/home I designed (with a team) as the first image on your Cottage Kitchen Pinterest Board! So fun!
Here are some more photos of that project, if you are interested: https://www.sanders-architecture.com/portfolio/little-boggy
The project as a whole is more East Texas than cottage feel, but super fun to see that photo on your board!
Killy Scheer is the Interior Designer and she is a joy to work with.
That house is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Ok, I’m confused……you did have curtains up in the bathroom, did you not? But now, I see no sign of them or the curtain rod or anything????
Beautiful light!
We did! I was struggling with window treatments in there. Stay tuned!
So apparently we have the same taste in kitchens. Half of your pins are ones I pinned two years ago when we were planning a reno in our old house. We’ve since moved and I’m now planning our NEXT kitchen reno (which will hopefully start in 5 months or so), and excited to see we’re on the same page!!
