How did your story with Stuga start?
The first time that we used Stuga was at our cabin in the Idaho mountains, and we picked them, honestly, for how good they looked. They looked so good, were so unique, and durable. I mean, if they can be laid in a cabin where we’re coming in with snow and boots, we knew that it was something that could withstand our life here. The most amazing thing is, the whole last year we’ve been renovating our house, and the floors were one of the first things that came in. We’re always telling people, “Keep your shoes on; we’re renovating.” Contractors come in and out, and they still look perfect.
Why did you decide to install hardwood flooring in your house?
We wanted a wood floor that was durable, that we wouldn’t have to worry about with our kids and our big dog, but was still warm and nice and could go all over our house. We have a very large dog and three very active kids, and the floors do awesome. They hold up to whatever you can imagine: dropping stuff, throwing stuff. The girls run all over the place with their little grocery carts. Willow comes in with her muddy paws. (“They kind of withstand more than I can actually!” — Julia)
Are you going to be installing the Ingrid flooring in your kitchen?
The Ingrid is great for kitchens. We installed Stuga floors in our cabin kitchen, and we installed them in our friends’ kitchen that we renovated last year. We cannot wait to install them in our kitchen. We held off because we are going to redo the whole kitchen, but we have all the floors ready to go. We’re so ready. We have the Ingrid floors in our breakfast nook, which is where we eat all our meals, every day, so we know they will hold up to all the food and spills.
How did you decide on the Ingrid flooring?
The color was the first thing that we were drawn to. It’s so natural, and the finish on it is natural as well. It looks like raw wood but has a very tough durable finish on the outside of it that’s super matte.
Why is Ingrid the best of Stuga’s hardwood flooring?
The Ingrid is the best because the color matches life. It’s really livable, and the color of it is super neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s just that right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style.
Stuga did not sponsor this post, but did provide the flooring for our home. CLJ receives a small commission on Ingrid sales, and all opinions here are our own.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Good choice! Thanks for sharing this helpful thought of yours, Julia.
Where did you get the beautiful navy blue rug?
It a Loloi!
I love the floors and we are considering it through out the house. Would you use them in the entry area? Are they durable enough? Thanks!
We did!! They are so resilient.
Gorgeous floors! I love how these look in your home. We are building our first house next year and I am on the fence about hardwoods vs. engineered wood flooring. Stuga is engineered, right? I guess I have it in my head that full hardwoods are the most durable and versatile option (ability to refinish), but nobody seems to use them anymore. It sounds like Stuga is super durable, maybe because that top layer of hardwood is so thick?
It is engineered!
We had Kahrs brand engineered hardwoods (the brand Stuga reps I believe) installed about a year and a half ago. I fully agree that they’ve been durable with a larger dog and I love (but should maybe hate?!) that the matte finish camouflages so much dust and dog hair. The one thing I never thought of ahead of time is that it’s uniformly flat & seamless look also means even tiny shifting is super obvious. Have you experienced that at all? I’m not sure if to blame my 40+ yr old house, the installer, or my product choice…
We purchased our Kahrs wood floors through Stuga and LOVE it! To match existing floors in the house we went we a more traditional oak floor. They are beautiful and easy to install.
Aside from the high quality floors I want to point out what a great, customer focused company Stuga is.
The floors were ordered in February and were delayed multiple times because of the pandemic. I was really impressed with Marc who kept us up to date. It worked out in the end and I very much appreciated his dedication to customer service.
FYI, I am NOT a blogger, this is not sponsored. Just loved the product and service!
Hello:)
Wondering how these hold up to missed liquid spills (kids!)?? Thanks!
Ours has held up so good.
We were influenced by you guys and went with the Stuga Ingrid for our home. We are slowly DIYing the whole house (got the bedrooms and playroom done yay!). We are doing the living room next week for our one room challenge. We love them so far, and the color is fantastic. Too may other floor samples we looked at were really pink or yellow or gray, we felt Ingrid was the perfect balanced color for a light wood floor.
Are these solid hardwoods, or engineered wood? The website says they can only be sanded twice – seems like engineered?
Engineered.
The floors are beautiful and sounds like even as hardworking as your tile was. It’s got to bring so much piece of mind! Love the ones you chose.
Yes! I checked Stuga Studio out after the positive reviews from you and your contractor from your cabin install. I loved the look but was sold instantly when I did further research and learned of Kahrs’ commitment to sustainable harvesting/processing of their wood as well as the fact they do not use any formaldehyde or solvents. Stuga’s flooring can also be used on top of radiant floor heating, which is awesome because many brands can’t, but also because my daughter and I both have auto-immune disorders and I really didn’t want our heating system releasing or causing off-gassing of chemicals in our flooring.
After a couple rounds of samples, we ordered the Archipelago for our main living space and the more budget-friendly Forest for our studio space. Both are beautiful and appear to be of the highest quality, we aren’t ready to install yet but we tested out the locking system and it seems both quick and solid. So glad you guys are here to test out materials and offer your honest recommendations for brands we may not have otherwise found. My dad was so stoked to hear these floors are made very close to our family roots in Sweden!
I love your floors so much! I have 70 + year old hardwoods, and while they are beautiful they do not stand up to my big dogs and their claws. They were refinished in 2011 but are now covered in scratches from big claws and will need redone when I sell. Long term dream is to build, and I’d love floors like yours!
We chose a very similar color (different brand) almost on a last-minute, design-fatigue whim! We were looking at more mid-tone, traditional oak, when I had the realization that we’re painting two walls black and have very little natural light in this house, so we should go light. By then I was exhausted by design choices so we just went with the first one that fit the description (it’s almost identical to yours). They go in next week and I can’t wait!
They look beautiful. What do you use to clean them?
We just use a swiffer on them!
