Sunday night, I developed some severe, sharp pain in my lower abdomen.  By morning, I couldn’t stand.  The pain!  My family care doctor did an evaluation and sent me right to the hospital.  She was certain I had appendicitis.  (Insert yesterday’s instagram here) They did a CT scan and didn’t find appendicitis but did find a massive amounts of cysts on both ovaries–several of which had ruptured and shot fluid into my pelvis. We are so glad I didn’t have to have surgery to remove my appendix (so, so thankful!),  but we are still unsure if this is another player in our secondary infertility.  For now, you can find me hopped up on pain meds in the fetal position watching Veronica Mars.

Ps.  Your well-wishes on Instagram and Facebook kept me in good spirits all day. Mean it.

What do you think?

  1. Its a common thing for me too:( i take Excedrin the moment i start cramping and it helps keep the edge off. Although a quick visit to the er and an iv of anti nausea and pain med will have you feeling better in a jiffy.

I can empathize. I’ve been having this happen since my teens and had a particularly bad episode recently. Rest up and feel better soon! I’ve found that a heating pad on the abdomen can help sooth the pain.

Oh huge hugs Jules! Thinking of you, I had similar a few years ago and can remember the pain clearly to this day :(

  11. I just had my appendix removed last month! Surgery is never fun! So sorry for all this pain you are suffering from. I just wanted to recommend this website: http://www.popepaulvi.com/

I had a friend that suffered from 2nd infertility for 8 years and just had two babies within a year of each other! The great thing about Pope Paul VI Institute is that they know so much about the female reproductive system which is more than I can say for many OBs who specialize more in birth control. The PPIV Institute helps you find the source(s) of your infertility and helps you to conceive. I know that it is named after a Catholic Pope but it is for all women. And if you do want more information on the PPIV Institute I could hook you up with my friend. She loves to share her experiences with the Institute and how it changed her life. I hope I am not overstepping the blogger/blog reader boundaries. We conceived our first child quickly and then took months to conceive our second. Where as God was just teaching me patience, I know how difficult not conceiving is. I just wanted to share something that maybe you didn’t know about and hopefully it could help you. Hoping for a quick recovery!

Every post reminds me to pray for your future child. Praying for your family and for good healthy today.

  15. Ouch. I feel for ya! I also thought I had appendicitis when I had a cyst rupture, but luckily it wasn’t. Hope you feel better soon!

  16. I hope you feel better soon, Julia!

  17. Jennifer says:

I’m so sorry. I have PCOS and get tons of cysts all the time, and I think the pain of rupturing cysts is worse than when I had appendicitis. I hope you feel better soon and your doctor is able to figure things out for you. I know you mentioned starting thyroid meds a few months ago, and one of the things my fertility doctor has told me is that as one system is finally brought back into balance, another system can be thrown out of whack even further, so it becomes a balancing act to get all of the systems working together at the same time.

  18. Shannon says:

Hope you’re feeling better soon Julia.
    Prayers sent your way!

  19. I hope you feel better soon!

  20. Jen says:

Oh honey. Ovarian cysts are the WORST. Get some rest, feel better, and know that we’re all sending happy thoughts your way.

  21. Ouch! Hope the pain subsides and you get some answers soon. Enjoy relaxing in the mean time.

  22. I am so sorry… I have had this happen too. It is the worst pain I have ever gone through. I was also suffering with infertility, but this was actually not something that was causing it… in fact, I finally got pregnant, and still had the cysts… hopefully you will have the same

  23. Debbie says:

i had to have surgery on my cyst that ruptered. it was excruitating. when they wanted me to lay down on the table for CT scan i told them there was no way & that theyd have to knock me out. they said they didnt knock people out for a CT scan & that i’d just have to try. I did. i got part way down & blacked out from the pain. problem solved? my sympathies to you TRULY. although my OBGYN said that they had nothing to do w/ my infertility.

  24. I’m so sorry for your struggles! Good luck, and I hope you feel better ASAP!! :)

  25. Jena says:

Julia! I am so sorry! I had my first ruptured cyst when I was 13 — agonizing! PCOS is no fun, but there is always hope! I haven’t had one in three years and counting. You’ll be in my prayers :)

  26. Kelsey says:

Take care Julia! i Hope that VM makes for a very good distraction. Have you heard they’re coming out with a new Veronica Mars movie?! :) I hope you get some good treatment soon. My prayers are with you.

  27. Lindy says:

Oh Julia! I have PCOS and I feel your pain. Heating pads help a lot! I hope you get to feeling better soon!

  28. Yikes! I hope you feel better soon xo

  29. Kelly says:

I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and I think I’ve had an ovarian cyst before (intense sharp pain, spotting, etc). PCOS is a disorder of follicular cysts, which are kind of normal, but if too many follicles go dormant for too long and not reabsorbed by the ovary, they can cause hormonal imbalances which lead to infertility. Then there are normal surface cysts that any woman can get at any time on their ovaries for no rhyme or reason and these are the extremely painful ones that burst!

Don’t fret, there is hormonal medication and procedures they can do to help ovaries become more normal and mature, and that will increase fertility. Since I’m not trying for a baby right now, I manage mine with hormonal BC so I have a normal cycle.

Hang in there! If just surface cysts, they likely aren’t messing with your fertility, but just being very painful and annoying. I’ve heard of women having surgery to remove problematic surface cysts, but most just burst on their own. Good luck and take it easy today.

  30. AviLynn says:

Definitely been worried about you since your post on Instagram. Big hugs sent your way and I hope you feel better. I’this sorry you’re going through this!

  31. Rebecca W. says:

My best friend recently went through some similar stuff. Prayers sent your way.

  32. Yikes – scary! Hope you feel better soon!
