A New Year, a New House Tour of Our Modern Colonial

January 6, 2023

We believe we should all love where we live.

We’re a couple of homebodies, working to uncover the home our home wants to be. And we’re so happy to have you here.

Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

We just set out to make our project list for the 2023 year, but before we tackle anything, we’re pausing and admiring all that we accomplished in 2022. We’re renovating this home because we’re passionate about loving where you live. We love taking something and making it more beautiful and functional for our family and sharing it with all of you is just a bonus. Your support and camaraderie are felt, and we hope that what we do here at CLJ continues to inspire, teach, or entertain you wherever you may be. Recently, we hit 1 million followers on Instagram, which is an incredible milestone and something we’re celebrating alongside you! We couldn’t have done it without you, so cheers to that and cheers to a brand new year.

Here’s a walkthrough of what our home looks like now, and I can’t wait to see what it looks like a year from now!

What do you think?

  1. Jeanine says:

I used to be subscribed to your blog, but for some reason, I’m not anymore. I don’t see any way to subscribe?

  2. Michelle says:

Love everything you’ve done!! I’m looking for a small island like the one you have in the guest house kitchen! Can you share where it’s from and if it will stand up to daily use? Thanksgiving!!

  3. Kengstrom says:

If only every house received this love.

  4. Ann says:

Hi, I have been lurking on your site for awhile. Love everything you do! Never once have submitted a note out to the blogosphere – until now. Saw your video today and was (naturally) stunned. It really helped me to visualize what you are working with. Question? What about the space at the very end of the upstairs (past Greta’s room) as a private principal bedroom retreat? It seems to lend itself to that idea. Just a thought. Ann

  5. Dawn says:

Beautiful. I see a lot of callbacks to the best elements of your previous homes, too, which is so nice. Love your house tours! Selfishly glad to see many spaces you haven’t touched yet because that means more content. :)

  6. Jane OShea says:

Beautiful! Thanks. And Andi, you are so talented!

  7. Rebecca says:

Love your beautiful home, watching the video made the layout and scale of the rooms much easier to understand and appreciate. I looked at your shop our house feature but couldn’t find a source for the brown leather cantilevered chair at the desk in your upstairs future bunk room if memory serves? I’d love to track it down, thank you!

  8. Michelle says:

So I haven’t loved all of the renovation choices, but the home does flow together much better than I imagined from the pictures. It has an overall gracious and lovely feel to it.

  9. Jean says:

Beautiful house! Love the upgrades you have made. Excited to see more this year. Happy New Year!

  10. Carrie says:

What a gorgeous home you have. I always get a lot of inspo from you! I know you are likely worried about the length of the video, but when the camera never stops moving, it makes me really motion sick. Pauses allow us to take in the detail….just a thought for next time.

  11. Rebekah Olson says:

I appreciate so much all the effort that must have gone into making the house “tour ready”! Couldn’t have been easy! Thank you!! It’s Beautiful!

  12. Tucker Enthoven says:

Loved the tour! What about the “hidden door” room off the upstairs blue room? Is it just storage (aka junk room?).

  13. Sharon says:

I’m overcome. It’s so beautiul and inspirational. Thank you for sharing!

  14. Marcela McNerney says:

I love it! Can’t wait to see all of the changes this year 🫶🏼

  15. Mara says:

Beautiful home. I only wish you’d shit this vertically than horizontally. So much we didn’t get to see or truly appreciate.

  16. Michelle says:

I love these home tours! Thank you for inviting us in!

  17. JJ says:

Your home is beautiful! I love your sense of style and find a lot of inspiration from your use of color, successful execution of traditional elements that feel young and fresh, and creation of a home that is exquisite while still being cozy. Thank you for putting this content out there. As someone who shares your love of home, you’ve given me many great ideas to make my own home even more what I want it to be. Thank you!

  18. Jody says:

I always look forward to your home tours! It’s inspiring to see the places you have beautifully created and the ones that are yet to be touched. Thanks for sharing!

  19. Kristin says:

What a treat! Thanks so much for inviting the world into your entire home (ha!). It’s such an intimate thing to do, and I loved seeing your ideas. I live in a historic Victorian farmhouse and it’s not entirely white and beige; so though I appreciate (and love) other styles, your home is the first that has truly resonated with my personal style. Thanks for sharing!

  20. kim weigand says:

Wow, wow, wow!! I so enjoyed that, even though I’ve been here for all of the renovations, it was lovely to see the flow. Looking forward to what the new year brings! For you and me!

  21. Sarah says:

Thank you so much for sharing! I love seeing how you have worked with every space – those that you’ve stunningly renovated and those that you haven’t (yet somehow you manage to make the unrenovated rooms work beautifully with the rest of the house!)

I’m curious, what did Andi use to record this? It’s a beautiful video!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
