Well that was a doozy. We finally put on our big girl/boy pants (respectively) and made the switch over to WordPress. I kicked and screamed the whole way and to be honest, I am sure that isn’t completely over but we made it! For the past few months, Chris and I have been designing (me) and coding (him) this new virtual home that hopefully is a lot more user friendly and functional for all of you. The layout is fairly similar to our last blog, but the look (including fonts, photos and even our logo) is very much refreshed.
We wanted something fresh, of course, but the main purpose of the switcheroo was for function’s sake. The biggest change we hope you’ll notice right away is the second menu bar. Our “channels” if you will. So now, if you’re interested in seeing just the food posts, per se, you can click on Food and dive into a recipe reading frenzy.
The sidebar in each channel will eventually be customized further (Food‘s is getting there the fastest) to help you even further specify what you’d like to read. Of course the search bar, located at the very top of the page, is a fast way to find exactly what you’re looking for, too.
So look around, click around and don’t be shy about letting us know if there’s something particularly wonky going on. Making the switch over has not been without bumps, and there’s still a learning curve for me trying to figure out an entirely new platform, but I can tell this is going to be a great change for everyone.

It looks fantastic! I’ve avoided wordpress. I want to go… for one reason alone and that’s there galleries. But I’ve built sooo much SEO that it would hurt me to go. Really google needs to get their crap together. The one time I tried I had a really hard time understanding and I find myself to be decent with code. Hope you’re having a decent time of it- it looks good on ya ;)

Love the new look!
It looks like others have struggled with this as well, but the switch somehow dropped you from my Bloglovin’ reader. I came over to the website to check whether or not something awful had happened… Glad everyone is safe and sound.
Following you again!

I’m a little late to the party! I just realized this morning that I haven’t gotten updates in Feedly in a couple of weeks, and I guess when y’all switched to WordPress, the old feed didn’t adjust. FYI! I don’t know if there is a way to add a post to the old site/setup to let subscribers know.

not sure if it’s just me, but your blog posts haven’t been going through to bloglovin since your switch. Only knew that you were posting from your IG

AUTHORHmm. That’s no good! It’s showing up for me here: https://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11577553/chris-loves-julia
Try resubscribing or clearing your cache? Let me know if that doesn’t work. We’ll get to the bottom of this! ;)

that is showing up as a different one than I was originally subscribed with. I changed which ones I’m following. Just wanted to give you a heads up since the old one shows there are lots of followers and the new one not as many. Don’t want all of those people to miss out on all of your blog goodness.
PS. Love your Night Fishing painting this week.

Love the new look! Few things – even though I went and updated your site to my Feedly account, this new post has not yet pushed there (maybe it will later?). Also, the “channels” are not showing up for me (I’m in Chrome) – I just have an ad directly under the Instagram/Pinterest/FB buttons.
Just wanted to give you the feedback in case others are experiencing the same thing :)

AUTHORLooks like another reader is having issues with the post showing up in their reader, so we’re definitely looking into it. Thank you! Also, the channels are at the top of the page, next to the logo. Do you see where it says “DIY, Art, Food, Life?” Those are all clickable and will show you all the posts in that specific genre. Let me know if you still aren’t seeing it and thank you for the feedback! We really appreciate all of your help working out some bugs. :)

Your post didn’t show up in my bloglovin’ feed :( No idea what made me check your actual website, but I guess we can just call it a happy accident!

Looks great! Love that it is easier for me to comment too!
I checked out the food “channel”. The main food page come up fine, but when I picked any sidebar item the posts showed up in two columns and were over top of the page header and logo. I’m on an iPad, not sure if that makes a difference.
Ps I roasted a turkey yesterday following Chris’s instructions and it turned out great – nice and juicy!

AUTHORI just tried it myself, and you are absolutely right! Thank you thank you for bringing it to our attention. When we designed and built everything in the beta version, some things got a little wonky in the actual transition yesterday and this is definitely one of those things. We really appreciate you telling us and we will work on fixing it asap. Thanks Hilary!

Love the new look! FYI- your Idaho home says you bought it in 2012… is time flying that fast, or did you purchase it in 2013? :)

I wish your fonts from the screenshot showed up in Google Chrome browsers! For me, it just looks like Courier for the headers and Times New Roman for the body. Oh well, still a wonderful blog with great content!

AUTHORBummer! We actually have been building it in Chrome. Hmmm. Not sure why the fonts aren’t showing up for you. Weird.

Well done! It looks gorgeous and is smart!
Aren’t changes fun? Sometimes the process is unique, but so often the results are incredible!
We haven’t changed the blog yet… because last week we decided to clear a 30 foot section of our yard. The result.. we now have a view of a 150+ year old pine from nearly every window that faces that area.
It wasn’t the easiest job, but the results are amazing and it makes our life a ton better!
