This post is sponsored by World Market. They are having a big 30% off furniture sale with code FURN30. My picks are at the bottom of the post!
We recently hired my nephew, Jordan, to be our full-time videographer! More and more of our sponsors are wanting video content and we wanted to amp up our own video game, too. He accepted the job, made the move to Idaho and is settling into a 400 sq foot apartment with lots of natural light.
One of the first things he needed was a desk We found this great marble-topped desk from World Market. It’s actually a counter height table with beautiful veining and simple black legs with a cross bar, perfect for resting feet on. We paired it with this cool black rope counter stool (comes in a set of two!) that is, surprisingly, so comfortable and the perfect height for the table turned desk.
A black wall sconce (under $50!) mounted to the wall gives great overhead, task lighting without taking up and room on his workspace and is home even home without a fiddle leaf fig? We went for the shorter 5′ one from World Market for his apartment and it’s just the right size and couldn’t look more realistic!
The reason we went with a table instead of a traditional desk (besides never being able to pass up marble) is so that it could double as a dining space after work hours and is absolutely the perfect spot for a date night in (he’s single ladies). It’s so convenient that the chairs came in a pair because two fit so nicely tucked underneath.
Keep the plant. Keep the candle. And just swap out the laptop for a table setting for two and there’s absolutely no need to crowd a dining table and desk into 400 square feet. Unless of course you want to invite more people over, then you could buy another set (they’re stackable!) and pull the table out for a game night.
The best part? World Market is having a huge 30% off sale all of their furniture right now with code FURN30, so we got the table and chairs for right around $500 combined!

I love multi-function furniture and small spaces and marble tabletops for $300–would make an incredible island, too!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

I’m been on the hunt for counter height stools for our house!!! You are the BEST!!!! And this little space is amazing!!!! I know you know it, but you are sooooo sooo talented and I’m so grateful you are sharing those talents with everyone! xoxo
I really love this! I might steal this idea for my kitchen. Also thinking this would work when I want to work on my computer standing up (I’m not tall, and I use a laptop stand to raise it, since this is counter height).
I LOVE that you’re able to pay it forward with some of your sponsorships (and love that we get to see your handiwork in a variety of spaces)! This little area looks 100x better than anything in my first studio apartment.
I love those dishes! Do you have a source for them?
They are from the hearth and home collection at Target!
I love how you always find the PERFECT things for my house! :) Love World Market!
