We start this episode with a small recap of our time in Seattle visiting the HGTV dream home (read more about that here) and then describe where and what our dream homes would be! They might surprise you!
Then we dive into a new segment, that we eventually decide to call “Cabin Log” (although Cabin of Green Gables was a close second! Ha!) where we’re telling a few more nitty gritty details of our adventures in renovating our new-to-us A-frame. While we love our cabin, it’s hasn’t all been views and a walk in the park. This week’s log story includes a whole lotta snow and a very expensive lesson.
For the main segment, we go through House Beautiful’s 16 Decor Trends that are Going to Be Hot for 2018 and weigh in on each.
• For starters, if they’re saying high contrast is out, why am I feeling like our dark accent wall in the playroom feels dated?
• And what do we really think about brass?
• Chris raps about the tone on tone trend.
• And although House Beautiful is telling us to go moodier (compared to what?!), there’s a big change we’re making in our house that goes in the opposite direction!

If you read through a lot of posts on House Beautiful, you’ll notice they contradict themselves constantly – lots of writers, not so much editorial control – but hey it’s a fun read! Just do what YOU like.

I grew up (and my parents still live) just outside of a beautiful, small college town in North Carolina. They have no neighbors within sight, and are surrounded by fields and woods. The town itself is big enough to have everything you need, and Charlotte is a manageable 20 miles away. Their situation is pretty ideal. It has set me up for high home-situation/location standards for sure!

The ads in your blog are so distracting. Your content is so great but sometimes I cannot tell which is yours and which are ads. Too bad your blog can’t just flow like other blogs and minimize all the ads.
The ads have gotten really smart lately. On a desktop, there are no in content ads–if that works better for you!
I have to say, I’m not a pink person, but I do like that agate wallpaper. It would be really pretty on the back of a bookshelf or hutch. And, for the record, I thought it was pronounced Ag-ate, which isn’t super pretty but sounds better than Ag-ut.
I’m so glad that you found a way to access the cabin in the winter, but I’m confused. When you say that you bought a shovel for the truck, do you mean that you bought a plow??

Actually, “judgement/judgment” can be spelled either way, as I found out when I graded a seventh grade spelling test contrary to the spelling list in my students’ textbook :)
