Our furniture line with Interior Define launches today, and you can see the whole thing right here! When they asked us what we’d like to call the collection, it took us hardly any time to land on “Charly.” Not only does the unisex name describe the style of our collection–the perfect blend of masculine straight lines and feminine soft, rounded cushions, but naming it after our big, gentle giant of a dog is also a nod to the pet and family friendly nature of the fabrics and the big, cozy factor that’s perfect for snuggling up. Meet Charly:

Shown in Interior Define’s Rain color here (which is actually the same color we ordered for our own home–I’m obsessed with this pretty slate blue), but it’s available in 70 colors and so many fabrics, with three different leg options, and just like all of their other collections, this sofa can be ordered in nearly any size to fit your space. There’s also 3 different Charly sectional configurations (!!!), and a chair!, and in the next couple weeks, we’ll be adding more pieces to the line including a sleeper sofa.

This collaboration has been nearly a year of designing and learning and stretching ourselves. We knew nothing about furniture design before Interior Define asked us about collaborating with them a year ago, and we are feeling nothing but gratitude to their amazing team for trusting us so much, letting us have so much creative freedom and for being patient and taking us under their wing when we were learning so many new terms.

We were meticulous about seat height and arm height and the proportions of the bottom rail to the cushion depth. We took the approach of wanting the design to work for you, in your space. This is a sofa that can be placed into almost any room and work with a variety of home styles, instead of requiring you to change everything else for the sofa. And of course, how about that bench cushion! It’s our favorite part and we can barely wait to all snuggle up a little closer as a family.

Another thing we took great care on was the depth. We love a deep sofa and really wanted this one to be lounge-y and cozy and deep (It has 27″ seat depth), but we also know not everyone is over 6 feet tall, like we are. So, we added these side lumbar pillows that pull double duty when you want to cheat the back forward. Really, we had our moms in mind. :)

We visited Interior Define’s headquarters in May, and they filmed a short 2 minute video talking more about the process and the experience. You can watch the video and see more details by visiting Interior Define’s landing page for the Charly line right here.

Please, please do! They are honestly one of the greatest companies we’ve ever worked with, and they have a vision we are so happy to be a part of. And hey, even if you aren’t currently in the market for new furniture, we’d still love for you to take a look at what we and our friends at Interior Define have created.

We’re just in love with how it turned out and know you will too. And should you decide this is the right sofa for you, we’d love to see pictures of you living with it in your home–so don’t hesitate to tag us.

What do you think?

  1. Mel says:

This sofa is gorgeous. I wonder about the long term wear of a single cushion sofa. Does it get more saggy in commonly sat on spots? I’m just wondering how the cushion ages with use.

  2. Julie S says:

This is such a handsome sofa! I really do love the proportions you worked out for it. Visually it feels very good- well done. I went and had a look and the measurements are so much deeper and higher than our current sofa (to be replaced in 1-2 years) that I was not sure I’d like it in real life, being 5’2″ and petite. I’ll have to find something similar IRL and see!

  3. meghan says:

Hi there! Do you happen to know if any of the fabrics that are available for Charly (specifically the U-sectional) are slip covers? I’d really like to be able to machine wash the fabric once a month, for at least the bench cushion. I had been leaning toward their leather options but I’m loving the Charly design so much! (Or, any chance leather will be an option in the future for Charly??). Thanks!!

  4. Pam says:

I love your colorful top where is it from?

  5. Helen says:

Congrats on the beautiful soft collection! I’m thrilled for you guys and more so, for me as we have been in the market for a new sectional. Now that our boys are almost out of the toddler age, we want something more polished without compromising comfort/maintenance. It’s such as thoughtful design and a great homage to the real “Charly” :)

  6. Kara says:

Love the sofa, sleek and modern and I have been looking for a couch with one single seat cushion that isn’t super traditional, like FOREVER! Side note: Julia, you are so beautiful! You two make such a sweet couple.

  7. Amanda says:

What fabric type would you suggest that is the most pet and kid friendly? We have an American Eskimo and a newborn so we need it for both!

  8. Dana says:

Congrats! I love this design! We were pretty close to purchasing the Ainsley U-sectional, but now we might have to re-evaluate and see if the Charly might be even better. Can you tell me what the main differences are between the two? It seems like the Charly has deeper seats and narrower arms, from what I can tell. We’re looking for a sofa (I still can’t remember if it’s “sofa” or “couch” in this context!) for our family room. Thank you!!

    • Julia says:

Haha, right? Charly has deeper seats, a slightly higher cushion height and arm height with slimmer arms and a bench cushion instead of individual cushions. Let me know if you have any more questions!

  9. Julie says:

Such smart design! When my family piles on the sofa, one of the kids inevitably ends up complaining, “but I’m sitting in the crack!” The bench cushion wins!

  10. Molly says:

This couldn’t be more perfect timing! Our current sofa (which is way too big for our new house’s living room) is on its last legs. I love the Charly- what a great looking sofa! Even the price tag isn’t too much. So thrilled for you guys- now I just need to talk my husband into it!

  11. Elaine says:

You’re not perchance adding a sleeper sectional are you? I’ve been hunting one for a while and love Interior Define’s attitude.

  12. Eileen says:

Love your shoes! Where are they from?

  13. Mandy says:

What is the white/tan rug with the couch in many of the photos? Could you link it, pretty please? :)

  14. Lindsey Graham says:

I’m trying to convince my husband to reconfigure our basement layout and that u-sectional would be perfect for where I want the sofa! Great job!

  15. Jessica says:

Love love love! I want one, but I’ll need to get a house first! (just graduated college) The different fabrics are so good, I don’t know how I’d choose!

  16. Amy says:

Congrats! It looks great and must be exciting.

Where is your jean jacket from? Desperate for maternity wear like that! Thanks!!

  17. Winnie G says:

    Congrats. It looks amazing!

  18. Felicity says:

Nice job. I’m already lusting after the U-Sectional in Wheat. Hopefully it’ll be available for a good long time, because there is no way I can talk my husband into new furniture this year (or next).

  19. Kristine says:

It looks great! When I click on the video it takes me to the interior define page, but I can’t find the video… I was happy to see the chaise version had 3 back cushions. For some reason, I have always been drawn to 3 back cushion couches.
I was late listening to the podcast from last week, but I loved it! I think the modern/ contemporary confusion comes from the fact that modern (sleek, clean-line, minimal) style is super trendy right now, making it also contemporary for the moment. Just my two cents.

  20. Jessica says:

This collection looks amazing! So happy for the collaboration and your success! Also, I am OBSESSED with the fact that you named it Charly. It’s perfect!!

  21. Courtney says:

Ah so excited! And what a sweet name for the collection. I love a deep couch – this is on my short list for my next couch purchase! Congrats on this new endeavor.

  22. Erin K. says:

Charly!!! I LOVE the name :D It’s perfect! We will be in the market for a new sofa in a year or so… this is now a major contender.

  23. Katie says:

It looks great! I have a question about the bench cushion. I’ve seen lots of these, but I’ve been worried that they wouldn’t stand up well to frequent use — that they would get indented where people sit and it’ll end up looking sloppy/the cushion won’t fit well any more. With my current 3-cushion sofa I feel like I can avoid this a little more because of the cracks and because I can flip often. Do you or the folks at Interior Define have any thoughts?

    • Julia says:

We had that same concern, and it was something we worked through extensively while designing this because we didn’t want to leave anyone (including ourselves) with bucket seats. So inside the cushion, there are many MANY smaller pockets of filling instead of one large pocket. This will insure it keeps it’s shape!

  24. Brittany says:

Looks great you guys! Julia, where is that super cute denim jacket from?

  25. MEL says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you named it Charly!!!! this is a perfect piece! We’ve been on the hunt for another piece for our home and this is Amazing!! also — I hope they let you take that plant home! i’s awesome!

  26. Mary says:

I love it! Are they providing a discount code?!
