We start off talking about some delays in the girls’ bathroom, and frustrations that’s causing (and we’re sure many of you renovators can relate). With all that frustration, thank goodness the weather is finally showing signs of stabilizing in the warm direction, so now we can get outside and do some partying!

Tips for outdoor entertaining, a game that Julia completely dominates in, and talking about real life dilemmas with the guest list.

Game: Top 15 Things To Do To Get Ready For Your Outdoor Party
Julia & Chris “take turns” in this family-feud style game guessing what items are on this list from HGTV. Really, Julia completely dominates and Chris gets humored.

Hot Topic: How to Not Invite Someone to Your Party
Sometimes our parties are open invitation (lookin’ at you, Halloween). But other times, we want a more intimate vibe, and inviting every friend usually ends up creating the opposite. We talk about the realities of creating a guest list, using some pointers from the Chicago Tribune. We also share some of our practices in deciding who to invite to different events we host.

Can’t Get You Outta My Mind

Preston: Preston gets about as political as this podcast ever will, and shares a recent comment from our Commander in Chief that he found amusing.

Chris: More health stuff on Chris’s mind, as per usual. Chris talks now about a new mindset he has on his own health and a few experiments he’s doing to see what helps him feel his best.
Julia: On Mother’s Day, Julia started watching the new Anne With an E on Netflix with her daughters, and they’re all about it. If you’re a fan of the original, or even if you’re not, you may just love how well this new one is done.

What do you think?

  1. Stephanie Coyne says:

Hi there. Long time follower of your blog! Wondering how your outdoor fireplace held up at your last house? Any issues with “sideways rain” getting into the insert and causing rust? Thinking about building one and have already printed your instructions! Thanks!

  2. Monica says:

Zillow : from what I understand, at least in the area where I live, every single house has a zillow estimate. Every house. Not just houses that are for sale. They get this estimate from some formula using publicaly available tax assessment records and probably some sales information that is specific to the area, I assume. My point is they could not possibly have an accurate assessment or an actual estimate of every single house in America and that they have to rely on databases that generate the info! Hope that helps?!

    • monica says:

oops – commented here by mistake (above) – was supposed to be for the more recent podcast (where you talk about zillow an the cabin search!)

  3. lu says:

You guys a hilarious! I love being the fly on the wall… Am I the only one wishing that you guys did the podcast more often…

  4. Summer says:

I just listened to this episode and I just love you guys! Speaking from having done 4 different in-ground trampolines, I can tell you why there is a six inch gap and it’s called science. If the trampoline is completely flush with the ground, you can’t get airflow under there so you won’t get a great bounce. The six inches allows air in and helps relieve that problem. It may not seem like a big deal for little kids, but you will hear complaints from the teenagers. This is one of those times you may want to think about choosing function over asthetics.

  5. Julie says:

Guest lists are tricky but I will say I would rather not be invited to a party than to be a backup “B-lister” to someone who couldn’t make it. Of course no one is going to advertise that information but it’s still likely to come out, especially if the guests know one another.

  6. Jennifer says:

Love your podcasts! As a Anne of Green Gables purest, I couldn’t finish the new Netflix series. So disappointed with the changes the made to the story line to make it more dramatic. The acting and settings are fantastic but there are so many holes in the revised plot and I loved reading the books growing up. Thanks for the “Keepers” suggestion on Netflix. It’s riveting! We’re going to finish it too fast.

  7. Tracie says:

1st time I’ve listened to your podcast – great fun! I’m sure you have already heard about Whole 30 since it’s been allllllll over the internet for a few years, but it is a great reset for only 30 days to see what foods your body does not like – it’s all about whole, fresh, unprocessed foods. How can you not love that. Take a look if you haven’t already.

    • Julia says:

We’ve done Whole 30 a few times! Chris is doing something similar, but there are a few things with Whole 30 that won’t work for his acid–but clean eating definitely!
