We’ve had a king-sized Tuft & Needle mattress in our master bedroom for almost a year now and last fall, we put two XL twin Leesa mattresses in the girls’ bunk room. A few people asked why we didn’t get the same mattress, and the truth is–we were curious to see if we would have liked the Leesa more!

Now that it’s been a few months with both, we thought we’d share our own opinions of how they differ and even which one we’d prefer if we could do it all over again. But first, they have a lot of similarities.

•BOTH you can order online.
•BOTH have thousands of 5 star reviews
•BOTH have 100 night risk free return policy
•BOTH are a 10″ high-quality foam mattress
•BOTH come in a box and expand to full size in about an hour after unboxing

With all those similarities, they are absolutely not the same mattress. The first difference you’ll notice is the price. The Leesa mattress is $100-$200 more depending on the size you choose, but maybe it’s worth it?

A mattress is an extremely personal-preference thing. And, obviously, both mattresses have a lot of fans, so we’re not here to tell you which one you’d like better. But personally, after reading many bed-time stories to the girls while laying in their beds and even dozing off a dozen times (it’s so quiet and cool in their room!), we find that the Leesa mattress is more comfortable and enjoyable. The T&N feels more dense, while the Leesa has a nice give to it. And while both claim to have cooling aspects to them, the Tuft & Needle sleeps warmer. After researching a little more, I learned that the T&N has two layers (their own “Adaptive” Foam on top of a “supportive base layer”) while the Leesa has three (A 2″ top layer of cooling foam, 2″ contouring memory foam in the center, on top of 6″ dense core support foam).

Would we have been perfectly happy with our Tuft & Needle had we not tried the Leesa, too? For me, yes. For Chris? Probably not. Many of you know that Chris had back surgery 2 years ago and getting the T&N mattress a year ago, we were hopeful that it would help in his continuing recovery. It was a big (!!) improvement from our previous mattress, but recently Chris’s back started acting up again. He put a mattress topper on his side of the bed which helped for a couple months but he needs more support now. We’re working closely with his chiropractor to look at all of our options, but that’s a different post (and likely mattress) entirely.

Do you have the Tuft & Needle or Leesa mattress? We’d love to hear your experiences in the comments, and maybe you’ll even help someone else decide.

  1. Dave Richards says:

I have a Tuft and Needle mattress and words I would use to describe it are: luxurious, hyper-comfortable and perfectly supportive. I’m 62, weigh 250 lbs and a very restless sleeper. Laying on this mattress is to me, just like floating on a cloud. The 3″ comfort foam fills in the gaps beneath you as your body compresses the foam underneath it and that support is just heavenly for someone my size. I have spinal stenosis and my back has never felt better. Try this bed…you have nothing to lose given their money back 100 day trial period.

  2. Melissa Buchler says:

My husband and a I have a T&N mattress and we absolutely hate it. At the time of purchase, our T&N employed friend provided us with a friends-and-family discount on the mattress. Had that not been provided, I would have had greater reason to return within the 90 days (or whatever the return grace period is) after purchase. Now I wish I just would have returned it anyway. The mattress is so incredibly hard, even with the free mattress topper they provide their customers. I’m a side sleeper. I wake up at night with a sore shoulder. I roll to my other side, wake up a couple of hours later and roll back. I genuinely can’t wait until I have enough spare cash to purchase a different mattress. I’ve had guests come over and try our twin T&N. Everyone’s response is the same—such a horrible night’s sleep.

    • Sonia says:

My husband and I agree! Their customer service and ordering process was amazing – but our experience with actually sleeping on it is not great. Sleeps hot and wake with back aches. Not supportive. We both have back problems so we are probably in the minority considering their reviews…
We did call to return it within the window— but they offered to extend the trial and gave us a topper and we took them up on it… then life got busy and we missed the return period. And it’s been 2 years now and we don’t know what to replace it with!
      BOTTOM LINE:
      – Excellent customer service! A+
      – Our experience sleeping on it: Very uncomfortable!

  3. Tuft and Needle mattress is healthier to sleep on, firmer for support, softer to rest, and delightfully bouncier than other premium memory foam mattresses. http://www.memoryfoamdoctor.com/memory-foam-mattress/best-memory-foam-mattress/

  4. Emily says:

We have had our Leesa for almost a year-hands down best thing we ever bought. I love going to bed! I spend a lot more time reading in bed now also instead of on the sofa. And I lounge in bed more. I cannot say enough how much I love the Leesa. My husband weighs nearly twice what I do and has restless leg syndrome. Needless to say he moves a lot and when he does I used to feel it-not w The Leesa! I will say it sleeps slightly warmer than our old standard mattress but it doesn’t bother me.

  5. Stacie says:

I don’t own either of the mattresses you mentioned but wanted to share an alternative mattress not often mentioned….100% wool. It’s a unique style of mattress, which like you mentioned, is a very personal preference. You can tailor the mattress to your liking. I wanted to share this option with you and your readers to offer an alternative. We purchased ours from The Wool Bed Company and are very happy with it. We love the support it offers and that it has no chemicals. Two other companies are Shepherd’s Dream and Holy Lamb Organics.

  6. Andrea Schmidt says:

Maybe you guys need a sleep number bed. so each side can be different. My In-laws have one and they love it!

  7. I think mattresses are such a personal choice. But, after a lot of research I decided to try the latex foam mattress route (after being assured that it wasn’t memory foam). We got a Savvy Rest mattress three years ago. We both laid on the mattresses at a local store where they could play with the three layer configurations until we each had our perfect comfort configuration. It has been the best decision we ever made. I will say that I swapped sides with my husband’s firmer top layer after my side began to feel a little soft. (My husband never complains, he can sleep on anything.)There are some body impressions, but I can flip the top layer easily by unzipping the cover. And if the top layer gets too soft, I’ll just order two new top layers to replace them instead of ordering a new mattress. Some side benefits: all natural materials, no odor. Ability to swap layers. Cool sleeping conditions unlike a hot memory foam.

  8. Sarah Jane says:

Has anyone tried the Sapira (Leesa’s luxury foam/coil hybrid)? Would you recommend for someone who likes a more traditional mattress?

  9. Bethany says:

I really prefer spring mattresses. I’ve purchased a Casper and T&N and both have issues with heat build up. The Casper feels great overall and I was able to adjust my bedding to like it most of the time but it wouldn’t be my first choice for a mattress. The T&N is a bit firmer and I don’t like it as much.

  10. Zoe says:

No one is commenting here about bed frames! I just got a high quality supportive bed frame from West Elm and my Casper mattress is SO comfortable on it. I think any mattress is immeasurably more comfortable on a firm frame.

  11. Alicia says:

I love your blog and am a first time commenter!!! Has Chris tried using a foam roller for his back? I’ve had 3 knee surgeries and was still experiencing pain, but after consistent daily foam rolling sessions I have no pain!!! Check out videos on YouTube!

  12. My wife and I got a Tuft & Needle Queen mattress last spring and we both still love it. It has a nice firmness and just a little give. But as always, your mileage may vary.

    Things to note:
+Ours sits on a box spring on top of solid pine slats (no give to them).
+Neither of us have major back issues (although we both do work at desks)
    +We’re in our early 30’s.
+Any mattress is going to be bad if you have back issues. Spend money on fixing that first BEFORE you hope a matress will magically make things better. It won’t. Unless you’re replacing a 10 year old spring mattress from college like we did. Then it will.
+Look up “Supine Groin Progressive” for a good way to reduce hip flexor tightness. Mobility WOD is another great place to look for easy to do mobility drills.

  13. C Davis says:

My husband and I both have back problems – we ordered from Loom & Leaf (King Relaxed Firm) and it’s been great! It’s slightly stiff but haven’t put a pillowtop on it yet, so it’s apparently not that bad. The price was slightly more ($1500 with delivery) but we’ve been really happy with it.

    • Lindsay Rogers says:

We also have a king mattress from Loom & Leaf. Ours is the firm version which we absolutely love. I have a bad back and this mattress has saved me. Not a night has gone by since we bought it a year and a half ago that I haven’t laid down in bed without thinking how very thankful I am for it!

  14. Candace Flynn says:

We’ve been on a similar journey and decided on Nest Bedding’s Alexander Signature Series in Medium. It’s heaven! I have constant back aches and this mattress works wonders. I don’t like to get out of bed at all now. It competes with T&N, Leesa, etc. My kids have Brooklyn Bedding and they loves theirs too — it’s also quite comfortable, but not as thick as our Nest.

    • Ikram says:

      Hello,
I’m about to pull the trigger on a King Nest Alexander signature in Medium as well and want to check in with you to see if you still love it?
Also, for my girls, I’m thinking about the BB as well. Still recommend? Thanks for your reply!

      • Chris says:

The Leesa for our girls is a great mattress. Still very comfortable. Jules loved the Tuft & Needle, but because of my back issues (that I’ve had for years) we recently moved to a Sleep Number.

  15. Deirdre says:

I’ve had my T&N for about three weeks and love it. I find it supportive without creating pressure points. The price was good, delivery quick, and excellent customer service. Also, you can’t beat the return policy if it’s not fof you within the 100 night trial. I hope I feel the same on night 101!

  16. Amy says:

My boss’s husband has really bad back issues (and he’s only in his 30s) and they got a Purple, it was by far the best mattress they tried (and they tried ALOT). I would say it would be the best choice for his situation. I went as far to get my FIL a purple seat cushion because he had tailbone and spinal issues, and he has said it made such a big difference. Check it out.

  17. Julie says:

Does your bed frame have slats? If so, how far apart are they?
I just purchased an Amerisleep mattress, which seems to be similar to these two mattresses, and now I’m trying to find a bed frame. We don’t plan to use a foundation, and the mattress website recommends slats that are no further than 3″ apart but most of the frames have slats further apart than that.

  18. Dana says:

We bought our king sized Leesa mattress almost exactly one year ago. I have scoliosis. My husband has no back issues. Our old spring mattress was starting to sag and every morning I was battling back pain. We opted for a foam mattress at the recommendation of my chiropractor and were choosing between a Casper, Leesa, and T&N to try to find relief for me on a budget.

The Leesa was a bit of an adjustment for the first few days, but my routine back pain quickly went away (amazing what proper support can do!) and my husband liked it better than our old mattress. I was completely in love and so happy we made the switch. Fast forward past the 100 day return period and like other comments have mentioned we began to notice a difference in the firmness and support where we each sleep and the center of the mattress. This happened around the fifth month, which is shockingly fast in my opinion. For reference, I weigh only 115 lbs. My sleeping spot lost enough support that my morning back pain returned and I feel like I’m at square one. Definitely frustrated that $900+ dollars got me less than six months of comfortable sleep. We’ve since turned the mattress and it’s been a little better, but this spot is nearly worn in too. It’s almost time to buy a new mattress. Again.

For anyone with back issues, I wouldn’t recommend the Leesa.

    • Rupal Patel says:

i having the exact same problem and so are 2 of my friends. mine started about 3 years into having the mattress and theors was 2 years. i rotated it and it was good for about a month but now i am feeling the sagging again .

  19. Kristen says:

We bought a Zinus Memory Foam mattress from Amazon over the summer and I LOVE it! It’s crazy how comfortable it is and it was insanely affordable. I honestly want to replace all of the mattresses we own just because it’s so comfy! :)

  20. We have a Casper mattress and we LOVE it. I haven’t tried the others but both my husband and I are really happy with Casper. We just got an upholstered bed too and I found a really nice slim box spring that gives the Casper a little more height but doesn’t show on the sides of the bed.
The Casper has definitely helped with my back pains – and it’s prob the best budget option if you can’t afford a tempurpedic (we definitely can’t)
My chiropractor also recommended it to us.

I am a regular reader, having found you about a year ago. Your style is remarkable! Have y’all decided on a new post schedule? I was accustomed to early-morning posts, but I’m noticing a recent switch to evenings. Will that be a long-term change?

    • Julia says:

We have a few things going on behind the scenes, so we’re just trying to put out posts when we can right now. However, we hope to be back to our regular post schedule soon. Thanks for reading!

  22. Lia says:

Hi, I usually don’t post this. I see that your husband has a history of bad back. I have TMJ and neck, shoulder and back problems. My husband and I have tried everything, including Loom and Leaf mattress. I woke up sore, stiff, sensation, and numb everywhere and my husband’s back started to act up, too.

You may find this strange suggestion- a futon mattress. I visited my parents’ house and slept on futon mattress along with futon wood sofa. Wow, it was the best sleep ever I’ve had in a long while. I didn’t feel sore at all. I woke up all fresh and happy. I started to research on futon mattresses. I’ve learned about Japanese and Korean culture over there and they sleep on the floor, which is good for their back. My husband is a RM and slept on thin mattress on the floor during his Korean mission. He rolled a mattress up every morning before he went out. He never complained about it. You can research on futon mattress and back problems. It’s compelling. You can go to the local Japanese mattress shop if it is in your area. Do not buy futon mattress if they have coils in them. It’s no-no. I recommend wool mattress since you guys live in Idaho. Wool can control body temperature during the winter and summer season. It can resist dust mites and retain moisture. We ordered cotton futon mattress with 100% wool topper. Futon mattress and wood slats equal the best results. It solved our problems.

    Good luck!

  23. Ali says:

I bought a purple mattress 6 months ago. It’s the best money I ever spent. It sleeps so cool and is very supportive for my shoulders and back, which I’ve had surgery on before and frequently act up.

  24. abby says:

we have had a leesa for just over a year. i absolutely love it–and coupled with good flannel sheets? i die…so hard to get out of the bed. it “cradles” your body well without making you sink into it. i haven’t had an issue with it sleeping hot, but my husband thinks it does, but just a tad. not enough that it has bothered him or made him regret our decision…we just use a light quilt instead of the down duvet we were using. the main reason we wanted it was because i desperately needed the bed to stop shaking violently every time my husband got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. now, i should add that we got a new bed at the same time we got a new mattress, so it’s hard to tell how much the bed has to do with it. but there is a dramatic improvement…i will say, though, it’s not perfect. i can still feel the bed move sometimes when he moves around. but it’s MUCH better than our old spring mattress. in short, i love it and have no regrets!

  25. Di Jones says:

Thank you for this post as my husband and I are looking at both of these mattresses. One point I continue to hear is the mattresses sleep warmer . That is definitely a deal breaker for me since I do everything I can to sleep
cool — linen sheets, duvet … we even have the ugly ceiling fan :/

    • aussiebushgirl says:

I hear you Di! Sleeping cooler is definitely the way to go. It’s my number one priority, next to comfort. A case of needs must in this Aussie heat! ;-) ~ heather

  26. Lisa says:

We’ve had a Tempurpedic for years. I’m not in love with it. I’ll be replacing it this summer. Can anyone compare that to the Leesa or T & N or newer mattresses out there?

    • Merry says:

Just a note-we have had 2 Tempurpedic’s over the last 10 years and at first–waaaay too firm–then it starts to break down where your body tends to stay, and now waaaay too soft. The middle is the only part that feels good and when my husband(170 lbs)leaves for work, I(150 lbs)roll to the middle! Ahhh, that feels much better. I never look forward to getting in bed anymore. We are definitely shopping for a new mattress! Sad that the supposedly most relaxing and rejuvenating time of one’s day has to be so hard to achieve!!

  27. Ashley K says:

We bought the T&N based on your initial review months ago and we love it. It took a few weeks getting used to but since then it’s been amazing!

  28. Lisa says:

We bought a king size Leesa a year ago. My brothers both bought one too after I recommended it. Now after having it for a year I would not recommend it. I have horrible back pain every morning and my husband says he hasn’t had a good nights sleep since we got it. My brothers aren’t impressed with theirs either. There are divets in our mattresses where we sleep and none of us are overweight. I am considering buying a mattress topper to see if it helps but might just need to buy a whole new mattress.

  29. Deni V says:

As scary as the price point is, our Tempur-pedic mattress is the only mattress that’s given me any sort of relief. I have a herniated disc in my neck (no surgery yet), and their mattress is the only one that keeps me from aching in the morning. The visible swelling I had has also gone away. We’ve purchased three mattresses in the past year…

There are a ton of different options and some are at lower price points. We have no trouble with heat with the changes they’ve made to their mattresses.

  30. Becky says:

I have two Tuft and Needles (one full, one king), one Casper (twin), and one European Sleepworks (Queen) mattresses. My husband and I got the Sleepworks custom made in firm and loved it, but we really wanted a king (he sleeps diagonally!) We got the full for my son and a Casper for the guest room. The Casper is much softer then the T&N, so we got our king from T&N. I hate it. My husband hates it. Sometime we sleep in the other guest room which is where our old Queen is and tell it how much we miss it. If I could justify putting down the money for a king sized Sleepworks, I would.

Ever since I slept on the king t&n I’ve had terrible back pain. We had a slat platform bed so we got a bunkie board after a while (even though the t&n website says 2 in gaps are okay. That helped a little. It just sags too much on the edges, and something is just off. My son’s is much harder than ours. Some guy online did a annual review of the T&N and found it’s getting softer every year. Maybe it’s that (since we did buy ours much later than my son’s) Or maybe it’s because it’s a different size. Either way, I dread going to bed.

We’re moving in a few months and have decided to put the Queen in our master and put the t&n in the guest bedroom, even though it will take up the entire room. We don’t have the room to move it before then
Hope our guests like it more than us.

Side note- I slept on my sister’s guest Queen mattress in a box bed last week and it was much better than either of our t&ns. She said she got it at Costco when they were having a sale for around $500 (for a Queen!!)

    • Merry says:

Becky, could you post exactly which Costco mattress your sister has? I am considering giving it a try simply by what you stated and that Costco is great for returns for most any reason. It’s a viable option….

      • Erin says:

I have the same queen. It’s just the mattress in a box. I don’t actually know the name, but it’s at the $500 price point. When we move and upgrade to a king, I’m sticking with the same mattress.

  31. elizabeth says:

We’ve had a Leesa for 3 months now and it’s been great. My only complaint is that the smell was really strong for about a week. For the first week, each night we put a mattress pad and two sets of sheets (and still smelled it) and each day took them off and opened a window to let it air out. After the first week, we smelled no odor.

  32. Anna says:

We have a Purple and LOVE it. It’s in our daughter’s room and we both go in there to take naps! Ha! When we upgrade to a king in the master we’ll be getting a Purple again. I have upper back issues and I’m a side sleeper and love it.

  33. Sarah says:

Look into PRI (postural restoration) for Chris it you haven’t already. I have seen it work wonders for those that commit themselves to keeping up with the exercises. It can seem a little odd at first, but it is all about retraining your body to work and move properly.

  34. Amy says:

I bought a Dreamfoam arctic dreams mattress last Spring, supposedly similar to a Tuft & Needle but it has a top layer of cooling energex foam that gives the mattress a little “bounce”/fast response time to movement. It was super affordable (like $400 for a King). I was on a really small budget and needed something new so I held my breath and ordered. I haven’t tried any other similar mattress brands so I can’t compare. But I have zero regrets. My husband and I love it. For someone on a tiny budget, I highly recommend checking it out!

  35. Rebecca says:

Thank you for this post! I have a Tuft & Needle that I love. Because they don’t have sales or sponsored posts, I trusted the reviews more. Going on 6 months and I have no regrets! In fact I just bought their pillow as well.

  36. Carrie says:

I haven’t tried either of these, but we LOVE our Sleep Number. Love. It.

  37. Jennifer says:

We have been sleeping on a Leesa for over a year now and still love it. I don’t find it warm and love how quiet it is when my husband rolls over or comes to bed at a different time than me.

  38. Rachel says:

We bought a Casper about a year ago, and love it! I haven’t tried Leesa but I believe it’s a direct competitor. Just an FYI for anyone out there mattress shopping!

    • Hannah says:

Hey Rachel, I’m curious if you still like your Casper mattress? I’ve been doing research and it seems like several people have had them wear out after a couple of years! We need a new mattress and are interested in the Casper, but that makes me nervous!

  39. Leo says:

We got a Casper king size almost a year ago… haven’t looked back, it’s the best thing we’ve ever slept on and bed time is particularly joyful since.

  40. Tanya says:

Do you have posts on bed linens and making your bed? We just bought a California King Tuft and Needle (which we are in love with) and need to update bed linens. I want a “grown up” bed with layered bedding. Any tips?

    • Lindseay says:

Would love this as well, perhaps with a variety of looks? And maybe notes on how to update seasonally?

    • aussiebushgirl says:

Hi Tanya. If you’re prepared to splurge and pay, you can’t go past REAL linen (pure linen) imho. I highly recommend a company in S.F. called Rough Linen, owned by the lovely Tricia Rose – a fellow Aussie. I’ve had mine for coming up three years, and it keeps getting better with age! Give it a go. You never know. ;-) https://www.roughlinen.com/. ~ heather

  41. Vivienne says:

Do you guys know about Rolfing and miracle balls (sold on Amazon for $12) to alleviate back pain? We’ve experienced the greatest recovery with these two methods. Just an FYI, in case it could be helpful for you.

  42. Kristi says:

I did not try the T&N but we did try the Leesa and it was a no go for us. They sent our local goodwill to pick it up so at least it went to good use for someone. We absolutely LOVE our Saatva mattress (same online in a box idea). I highly recommend it!

  43. Stacy says:

My boyfriend bought a Leesa mattress about 6 months ago and I sleep there a lot so I feel semi-qualified to discuss.

It definitely sleeps warmer than I’d prefer – but I want to be COLD when I sleep and he produces a lot of heat at night, so I can’t fault the mattress entirely for that. It’s definitely firmer than any inner spring mattress I’ve slept on, but that seems to be a trend with this type. I don’t toss and turn nearly as much on the Leesa as I do with a standard mattress, and I don’t have anywhere near the same issues with falling/staying asleep (a chronic problem for me) as I do with a standard mattress.

I’ll be replacing my inner spring in the next few months and I’m definitely going to be getting this type, but I’ll be doing some research and possibly getting a different brand if there’s something out there that can sleep a little cooler for me.

  44. Tammy says:

We just bought a Casper. My husband has back issues and I have fibromyalgia. It has only been a week, but so far it has been very comfortable. It is not hot at all. However, I don’t like how it looks on our bed frame. We have an upholstered bed frame from Pottery Barn. It just doesn’t look quite as pretty to me since it is thinner than our old mattress. But , we are willing to sacrifice looks if we can sleep. Thankfully, they have a 100 day no risk return policy????????????

  45. RC says:

We got a T&N last year after seeing your post. We just bought a mattress a year previous and we hated it. So we figured, what the heck, we’ll try out something new. We love our tuft and needle mattress! It was strange to sleep on the first few days because we went from soft to firm, but we gave it a few weeks and we’ve had the best sleep we’ve had in years. I do have to say…pillows are everything. There’s only one pillow (curved memory foam) that I find that works excellent with this mattress to get the best comfort and best sleep.

    • Sue says:

What brand of curved memory pillow do you suggest? I agree, pillows make such a huge difference!

    • Sue says:

Beware, do not buy a Saatva mattress! I can honestly say the worst mattress we have ever purchased. The first one delivered was way too soft so they delivered their firm one. Within the first month, there are divets in our mattresses where we sleep, we also wake up with severe back and shoulder pain. Since sleeping on it, we have yet to sleep a full night sleep without tossing and turning. We filed a claim with our credit card company and Saatva sent us an email stating that we would be refunded $1600.00 and they never refunded it, so it’s been an ongoing battle. I would highly recommend purchasing a quality mattress with another reputable brand! If anyone would like a picture of the defective mattress after one month of use, I can DM you!

  47. Mary S. says:

When we moved to our new house in November we decided to move up to a King sized bed (our dogs like to sleep with us and we wanted more room to accommodate them so we wouldn’t feel like we were always being pushed off the bed). After some research we opted for the Leesa and moved our queen posturpedic to the guest bedroom.
Overall, we both vastly prefer the Leesa over the posturepedic. The Leesa is a tad warm, but not as much as the posturepedic which was always too hot to sleep for a solid 8 hours,

I’m so appreciate of this review and everyone’s comments. We are hopeful to move up to a king from a queen and I had no idea of all these awesome options. Thank you!

We looked at both but actually ended up with the Yogabed. It is very comfortable for both of us. My husband is a back sleep and I am a side/stomach sleeper. I do notice a little more lack of support when I’m on my side, but it’s a world of difference of my stomach. My arms dont fall asleep like they used to and I can stay in that position all night. It’s a great one that I think should be highly considered right with these two!

    • Tiffany says:

We looked at the T&N and Casper but went with the Yogabed too. It is great. It sleeps cool, is firm but not too firm.

My husband and I both have back issues and I also have arthritis in my hips. We recently moved and were without our furniture for several weeks, and needed a mattress a.s.a.p. I ordered a Leesa. It’s wonderful, and we slept very well on it for several weeks. I think it gives our Duxiana mattress a run for it’s money at 1/10th the price.

  51. Sam says:

We bought a Leesa mattress in December, and just returned it last week. The buying and returing processes were both really smooth, but the mattress just wasn’t for us. My husband I were both waking up with back pain that we’d never experienced before and our limbs were falling asleep if we were on our sides. I also found it to be too warm. I was waking up drenched in sweat on cold Iowa nights, I can’t imagine what a summer night would feel like. Ultimately we decided to go mattess shopping the traditional way.

  52. Julie says:

I had a leesa but it was too soft. We got the Brooklyn Bed in “firm” and LOVE it. Way better.

  53. Eliza says:

We purchased a Tuft and Needle mattress after having our standard coil mattress for 8 years. I was hopeful and excited but, sadly, after a week of sleeping on it I work up sore and stiff every single morning. It was entirely too unsupportive/soft for me. We decided the foam is just not good for us-we prefer the firmness of a more traditional mattress. We donated our T&N (they don’t accept returns and ask you to donate it to a local charity-and even help you find one!) and purchased a Sealy Posturpedic mattress (which we LOVE LOVE LOVE). It is a very personal preference, you’re totally right!

  54. Brooke says:

We bought a tuft and needle matress. We had great success with it at first, maybe the first month or so. Then my husband’s back started hurting. It almost seemed like the bed softened just enough to bother his back. So we couldn’t keep it, unfortunately. But just like you said, a matress is so personal, so i’m sure others could have a totally different experience. I should add, we were extremely impressed with their customer service.

  55. Alicia M says:

Perfect timing on this post! We ordered a T&N mattress per your previous recommendation. I have scoliosis and hubby has had 2 lower back surgeries. We have 20 days left on our sleep trial. Although it’s a huge improvement from our old mattress, we’re not in love with it. I called T&N yesterday and they offered to send us one of their mattress toppers, free of charge. (It should be here Monday). They also offered to extend our sleep trial while we decide if the topper/mattress combo works for us. I was very impressed with their customer service! If we decide that the mattress and topper still don’t work for us, we’ll be “sending it back” (donating it to charity per their policies) and trying the leesa next.

  56. Justynn says:

OoO Thanks for this! We bought a iComfort mattress that I love, but are looking at adding a guest room in our house and I was thinking of something like this for it.

  57. Kate says:

We just got a Leesa yesterday! Did you find there to be an adjustment period? I had a great first night but my husband has an old shoulder injury that flares up from time to time – and it hurt this morning. So he’s ALREADY doubting it.

    • Julia says:

They say to give it 2 days, but it could take up to a week.

    • Lindsey G says:

We have had ours (a Leesa) about 10 months and I needed a few days to adjust whereas my husband only needed a night. Maybe two. I have always preferred a softer mattress while he tends to like them firmer. We both love it now. My favorite part is I don’t feel him move! He is a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier than I am and on our old pillow top mattress I would feel the bed SHAKE in the middle of the night when he would move/adjust in his sleep. Now I feel nothing!!

I’ve had a few mattresses in the last few years, and have a really bad back. I’ve had one hip replacement in my 30s and have early arthritis in my other hip. Needless to say, with a bad back and hip/joint issues, a mattress is so important. I’ve had an iComfort bed for the last two years and my husband and I would toss and turn all night and wake up exhausted and can barley walk in the morning. After doing tons and tons of research and asking absolutely everyone we know and don’t know about their mattress, we sprung for a Sleep Number i8. We had it delivered on Saturday, and with today being Thursday – sleeping on it for 5 nights so far, today was the first day in years that I woke up and went about my day and realized, I have NO back pain! My husband had been sleeping excellent too. We don’t toss and turn. Finally, we are getting a restful, and complete sleep! I highly recommend trying them out. They are really different than a regular mattress, but you can have as much or as little support as you need. I just haven’t found that in any other mattress. For me, a regular mattress, whether coil or memory foam – it’s fine for the first year, but then becomes too hard or too soft. Try the Sleep Number. Tons of money, but you just can’t put a cost on back pain and getting a restful nights sleep. Good Luck!
