We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Our podcast is live! You can listen to it on a lot of different platforms linked below, but whichever you choose, it’s free and it will always be free. Each episode, Chris and I sit down with our good friend, Preston Pugmire (whom you’ve probably come to know through the blog through our white concrete countertops and other projects), and have conversations about DIY, home design and family.

There are three episodes available today.

Episode 00: The Welcome Podcast It explains who we are, what we do and what you can expect from the podcast series. Make sure you listen to this quick 15 minute episode first, it sets the whole stage.

Episode 01: In Living Color Theory– A candid discussion about the best practices when choosing paint colors, why some colors work together and some don’t and I reveal for the first time a huge mistake I made behind the scenes.

Episode 02: Project Management > Anger Management– In this episode, we call our friends Kim and Scott Vargo from the blog Yellow Brick Home. Before you listen to this one, check up on their ridiculously good bedroom renovation. They reveal a lot of behind the scenes issues they’ve had and their biggest tip for getting through a tough renovation.

What do you think?

  1. Melissa Zuel says:

Love, love, love the podcast. I’ve been following on IG for a little while and just started listening to the podcasts. AND I just purchased two chairs from Interior Define. We’re beginning a slow reno of our 1980s basement, and they will be perfect. I do have a question about eliminating popcorn ceilings. It’s a daunting task, as they are everywhere. Any tips or suggestions?

  2. Allison says:

You mentioned choosing the worst house in the best neighborhood, how do you know what that best neighborhood is if you have not lived in that city before? How did you choose your current house when you were living a different state? I would love to hear more about this on an episode.

  3. Jaclyn says:

I’d love to know more about choosing artwork for a space and it’s proper scale to go with everything else in the room.

Our personal example: We have a cal king bed with a 3ft tall headboard. It sits low to the ground like yours does. The bed is up against a 16 ft tall wall. We are thinking of getting an art piece that’s 5ft wide by 4ft tall. Even though that fits with room to spare on this tall wall, getting a piece that large scares us a bit, haha. Like, are we overdoing it? Is it going to take over the room? It would definitely be the “showpiece” in the space. We’re just worried about guests thinking “Holy S$#@*!” versus “Wow, what a wonderful piece of art.”

And vice versa, when would a piece be too small/skinny? Or too cluttered if you’re doing something like a gallery wall?

  4. Bethany says:

Would love to hear your thoughts on hanging ceiling lamps as bedside lamps when there Windows on either side of the bed?

  5. Stephanie Tifang says:

    Hello,

I tried to look for an email to contact you guys directly but couldn’t find it. I saw that you mediate your comments so I know that you will see this before everyone else does. Please feel free not to post it as a comment. Just delete it after you read it.

I love love love your blog and podcast. I felt so inspired listening to you and your advice. I thought your comments and suggestion about color and design are so on point! I love your stories from behind the scenes as well.

I do just want to give a constructive criticism that maybe you aren’t even looking for but thought it might help you. I honestly haven’t ever done this but really like you and really appreciate your ideas.

Preston Pugmire does a good job pacing the podcast. He adds some humor as well. But he summarizes what you guys say too much. We get amazing content and advice from you and Chris only to have Preston Pugmire summarize it again. I bet we loose almost a 1/3 of the podcast to his summarizing. Twice he even summarized incorrectly; summarizing the questions from the reader, Heather, he summarized it saying “something around that the ends up being a design element or a focal point.” You never even mentioned it and thank goodness you caught it but all these little things and times he talking excessively takes away from the listener content and advice we really want from you. You are very well spoken and he really doesn’t need to repeat what you are saying.

Anyway, keep up the great work. This comment really does come from my heart and I don’t want to cause any problems and really want you to know this was meant with the greastest of intentions.

  6. Tara Turner says:

Hi guys! LOVE the Podcast! You really sound like you’re having fun. I would love to hear more about how you budget. I’m a single mama, and the moolah is tight. I’m struggling to do projects soooooo slowly. I loved the bit in (official) episode 2 about letting a space transition. Putting that spin on the timeline really helps. Thanks for sharing!!!

  7. Sarah Ridenour says:

    I was SO interested to see how the blog would cross over to the podcast world. I listened to the first two episodes yesterday and you guys just knocked it out of the park! It was entertaining and educational — the color theory episode was just awesome. You already have a dedicated listener with me and I can’t wait to hear more! Congrats on this new venture! {Insert clapping emoji here}

  8. Laura says:

Really enjoying the podcasts so far. Have you previously done any posts on Color Theory? If not, would love to see one for more of your thoughts and some visuals too.

  9. Karen says:

LOVE the Caitlin chair and it would work great in my tiny apartment (to replace my dated, hand-me-down laz-boy recliner!

  10. Treana says:

Loving this so far! One question i would love to have answered is how you guys deal with kid storage besides the pho credenza and the toy chest from Urban (we have that same one too and love it). I am more talking about rotating out clothes, kid “cookware”, books, AND toys. Just all things kiddo. Our firstborn is 5 months old and is already in 9 month clothes… I can’t keep up with the clothes rotation. What’s your method?

  11. Judi says:

Guys, is there a URL for those of us using other podcasting apps? Thanks! Can’t wait to listen.

  12. Samantha says:

Ahh! Love this. It’s so good.

  13. Veronica says:

I loved the podcasts. I’m looking forward to listening in each week. I was actually running experiments at work while listening and completely enjoyed your chemistry and vibe. We just bought a house and now I’m rethinking what colors to paint. The floors are warm cherry and I wanted to paint strong white by farrow. thanks for the tips.

  14. Annie says:

These are so great! What a cool idea. Love getting to know y’all a little bit better.

P.S. Julia, something about your laugh reminds me of YHL’s Sherry’s laugh! I so miss their videos! :)

  15. Sara says:

Can’t wait to listen! I currently listen through Podcast Addict app….any possibility in the future to get it added there as well?

  16. Lindsey says:

    Loving the podcast, thank you!

  17. Ellen says:

Love the podcast! I would love to hear more (or read) about lighting. Warm vs. daylight, LED vs. incandescent vs. CFL. For recessed lighting and accent lighting…Right now I have a mix in my house and the yellow and white light together driving me crazy!

  18. Corine says:

I listened to it backwards episode 2 down to 0. Whoops. It’s so good. I can tell this is going to be one of my new favorites. I love the interview and the tips. Your advice is unexpected and has me re thinking how I approach design in my home. Excited for next week!

  19. Amy says:

I Love this! You both are always an inspiration so to hear your voices and stories = Awesome!

  20. Kate says:

Listened to your interview with Yellow Brick Home (also a fave) on my way into work this morning and let’s just say my Tuesday was off to a great start! Can’t wait for the drive home to listen to the other episode. Great job!
