Renovating when you have kids is a real-life thing we have attempted to work through, sometimes failing and sometimes coming out feeling like proud parents. We’ve had a few reader and listener emails come in regarding how we manage to update our home when we have two kids: Do you try to squeeze everything into nap time? Or after they go to bed? Include them? Switch off with your partner?
Over the 6 years we’ve been tackling our spaces with our girl(s) by our side, we’ve come up with a few tips and tricks we talk about in this week’s podcast episode! We’re also sharing a lot of funny fail stories and even interviewing other people in the same boat, including Mandi Gubler from Vintage Revivals who has managed to DIY even with a newborn in the house. I also share insight from Gwen Hefner, The Makerista and John and Sherry Petersik from Young House Love–all people who we look up to when we’re in the depths of renovating while raising kids. It can be a frustrating balance to strike, and their answers–and ours–might just surprise you.

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

I listened to the first few on GooglePlay, but it doesn’t seem to be updating with the new ones? Do I need itunes? Android/Windows user and I really try to avoid it. Thanks!
Michelle,
Thank you so much for listening to the podcast! Bottom line is no you do not need iTunes. For android devices and non-iTunes stuff, I say downloading the free Stitcher Radio app on your phone is the best way to go. If you’d like to listen on your computer, you can do so through this link to the google play podcast section:
https://play.google.com/music/m/Dkx3yfxx33trz5uoqq4toa5lqpy?t=Ep_03_w_Vintage_Revivals_Mandi_Gubler_DIY_Kids_On_The_Block-The_Chris_Loves_Julia_Podcast_w_Preston_
or this link to the Stitcher website:
http://app.stitcher.com/browse/feed/89750/episodes
To answer your question specifically, Im not entirely sure why the google play podcast section hadnt updated when you checked. It has all the episodes now, but their podcast section of google play is a lot newer than stitcher or itunes so maybe it had a hiccup? I wish i knew the Google Play platform better to assist you.
If you dont want to use Stitcher’s free app, there are a few android apps that people have rated really high. They cost 3 or 4 dollars (one time only) and i know a few people who use them if youre interested. Pocket Casts and Doggcatcher are the top rated ones.
Thanks, hope this assisted

Preston – Thank you! It’s so much easier to listen on the computer for me and I love podcasts in the background while I work. The google play link worked great, but for some reason it’s still not updating on my phone, but this is great. Thanks!
I’m loving your podcast! I’ve never listened to podcast and now am looking for more. Do you know of any other podcasts that talk about home decor/DIY?
I woul love if you could cover window treatments, specifically how to hang them and when to go single vs double pane.
Good morning! Is iTunes the only option for listening to the podcast?
Oh–nevermind, I found it on the Podcast Chart website. Sorry if I missed that memo!
Glad you found it, Reva!
There are a ton of options! Are you on an Android phone? Here’s a great player, called Stitcher, that’s also free. You’ll find our podcast right here: http://app.stitcher.com/browse/feed/89750/details
Thanks for your response! I actually downloaded it from https://www.podcastchart.com/podcasts/the-chris-loves-julia-podcast-w-preston-pugmire. Stitcher seems really convenient for mobile and fast downloads, but the audio quality is lower (maybe they compress it?). Both options work great though!
