Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

I recently found a private pinboard I completely forgot about. It was the start of a nursery for a little baby BOY! I started it before we found out Faye was a little girl and I was so certain we were going to have a boy. Ha! So much for intuition. We couldn’t be happier with how Faye’s room turned out, but if she were a he, it might have looked more like this.

1. Loch Awe print 2. Globe Mobile 3. Flush Mount 4. Crib 5. Striped Crib Sheet 6. Throw Pillow 7. Area Rug 8. Dresser 9. Ink Blue Graham Glider 10. Insignia Pillow 11. Striped Kilim Pillow

It’s similar to the vibe of Faye’s nursery–calming, sophsticated, with a touch of charm–but more masculine. Things like the shelf of baskets and books, and even her current curtains would work well in this space, too. We even have the same glider in her current room in Dove Gray–but love the richness of the Ink Blue in this set up.

As for the name? We only had one boy name on our list for years (as opposed to the many girl names we loved)–Teddy! Funny enough, Sherry and I had a conversation about “Teddy” years ago, so we had a good laugh when we heard that John and Sherry named their son that. They beat us to it! Although this mood board definitely has me excited for the potential of a little boy one day (if I have a third in me! we’re taking it one at time), we’re so happy we were blessed with another girl. Faye has been the most delightful addition to our family. Also, I could design nurseries all day long. Is there anything more fun?!

  1. Anna says:

I love designing nursery moodboards, especially gender neutral ones!

  2. Anna says:

Julia, could you let me know what program or website you use to make your moodboards? I’ve been using olioboard & polyvore but I’d love to find something else, even if it’s a computer program. Thanks

  3. I love nurseries that aren’t “baby” at all and love this design! The palette is perfect and I may have to have that flushmount for me…

  4. Meagan Briggs says:

    That globe mobile!

  5. Amanda says:

I second the request for gender neutral nursery ideas. We don’t have kids yet, but my husband have already decided that don’t want to know the gender until the baby is born. I love your nursery designs. They’re playful but sophisticated at the same time :)

  6. Jennifer R. says:

I love your style with nurseries! I love a nursery that feels sleek and mature enough that the adults can enjoy it because we are the ones who notice the details.

I am currently 10 weeks along with our first and we aren’t finding out the sex. Any tips for making a sweet gender neutral nursery? So far it is more of a challenge than I expected.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
