Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

We don’t celebrate a “blogiversary” around here usually because it’s always been a little hard to tell when this blog started. Or maybe it is just hard to explain when it became the blog it is today? I started this blog five years ago this week. Five years! And while I had no intention of it sprouting into what it has, this year I’m feeling awfully proud of what it has become and the opportunities it has brought our way. We now have an accountant and an LLC and while I hear so many advice-givers (you know) say, “treat your blog like a business from day one!” I didn’t go that route. I nurture it like any other hobby I am passionate about. It has evolved, most definitely. Our most ancient archives consist of cruise recaps and baby Greta stories that generally kept our family and friends updated. Clearly the content has shifted (I keep a private account on Greta elsewhere now)–but after all of these five years, I can honestly say–I still truly like writing on these pages and I like the direction it has taken and where we’re headed. I like sharing our ups and downs and successes and mistakes. I like looking back through our archives and seeing those old, horribly formatted posts and small photos. Seeing how our design sense has changed over the years. Watching the comment counts go up and down. Reading and realizing we’ve gotten so much more confident in our DIY projects. Witnessing space after space evolve as our writing and personalities and family does. And really, we love connecting with you.

I’ve created a little survey so that we can better understand who you are, where you’re coming from and all that jazz. Because while I love blogging and did blog for many years just for me, these days–you keep us motivated and going. Click the link below to take the short survey, will ya?

What do you think?

  1. Happy blogiversary! 5 years – Pretty amazing. We have loved being along for the ride with you guys. Keep it coming!

  2. Happy Anniversary! Here’s to another five :o

  3. Congratulations! I’ve been a reader for a few years now, and have really enjoyed seeing your progress. Our blog (Rather Square) is only nine months old, but it’s been so fun to work on, I hope we’ll be around for the next five years as well. Can’t wait to see what the future brings for you, and looking forward to seeing more of your house projects!

  4. Love the new printable option for Chris’s recipes. And that picture with your leg pop is so adorable Julia. Just love you two so much and we are SO DANG PROUD of you and all your many many accomplishments. You are good at what you do, art, food, diy, and being down to earth.

and I’m trying not to hate Ryan for visiting you guys (and probably meeting the new baby!!!) in April. Uggggggghhhhh…I’ll get out there not long after him, but STILL!!

  5. Congrats on 5 years!

Your recipes have become a highlight for my meat-loving husband who greatly appreciates them

I’m wondering if you’d ever consider a mini blogging tutorial for those of us who are old school on format, pictures, etc. (It’s on my “to learn list” and I’ve dabbled, but some days I’d rather be photographing the beach or working in the greenhouse with our daughter.)

    All the best to you.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
