You wanna know why grilled peaches are so awesome? Because they meet the following criteria:

• Friggen Delicious
• Friggen Easy

Of course, I like to complicate my grilled peaches a little more than I do my grilled corn by soaking them in a cinnamon syrup for at least 30 minutes before grilling. Here’s what you need:

2-4 Peaches, cut in half, pit removed
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon (yes, I realize that’s kind of a “Fall” flavor, but the combo is too perfect to care)
Vanilla Bean or Caramel Swirl Ice Cream

Have you ever heard of simple syrup? If you watch food shows, you probably have. If you’ve never made it, the name really suits it. It’s equal parts water and sugar. So, 1 cup of water to 1 cup of sugar, boom, done. I’ve tried making my peaches with a full on simple syrup and it came out too sweet for my taste, so I cut the sugar in half and it’s perfect. All you do is mix the water, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, put your peaches in a ziplock bag, and pour in the syrup. Close the bag and try to get as much air out as you can. Put the bag in the fridge and let the peaches soak for at least 30 minutes.

Grill the peaches. You can use a grill pan for this and it turns out great. Don’t add any oil to the peach before grilling, they shouldn’t stick. But if you have a new grill that hasn’t been used much, you may want to spray some cooking spray on the grate. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side and serve with ice cream. I typically prefer vanilla bean with desserts, but I found that a good caramel swirl goes well with peaches and cinnamon. Scoop your ice cream into the bowl first, and take your peaches straight from the grill into the bowl. Doing this will melt part of the ice cream, which creates a wider range of consistencies and temperatures that is really pleasant to eat. Finished product:

Grilled peaches are a total trophy dish, and take such little preparation. In-laws stop by unannounced? You can have this ready in 45 minutes and they’ll be singing your praises, guaranteed. Or just bring a giant bag of peaches soaking in syrup to your next cook out, borrow the grill after dinner and blow everyone away. No matter when you serve it, it’ll be a hit, and you will be too.

What do you think?

  1. Dorelle Andersen says:

This is probably a really dumb question but do you make the syrup on the stove first with the sugar, water and cinnamon before pouring it in the bag with peaches

    • Chris says:

I’ve done it on the stove as well as in the microwave. Lately, I’ve found that I like to make it a little more concentrated, then add some ice to cool it down before adding it to the peaches.

  2. Tried this today with homemade coconut ice cream… DELICIOUS. And so easy. This is going to become a grilling staple! THANKS!

  3. Anonymous says:

Tried this last night, went great with the caramel swirl ice cream but the peaches tasted a bit plain to me, I might try this again and sprinkle some brown sugar on during the last few minutes of grilling i think that would add the touch I was looking for, thanks for the easy recipe!

  4. Hanna says:

I’ve grilled peaches, but not soaked them first. I’ll have to try once they come in season here, I looove grilled peaches!

    • Indeed. Peaches aren’t quite in season here, but they aren’t bad. There’s a city about 90 minutes north of us that is famous for their peaches. My parents used to buy a box every year and I would eat at least 5 peaches a day until the box was gone. I. Love. Peaches.

  5. Rydog says:

    AWESOME. Nuff said.

  6. We just grilled peaches last night! Delicious!

  7. Great idea with the syrup soak!
Another good time for grilling peaches: when they are a bit under-ripe and darn it you want to use them for a peach cobbler anyway. It softens them up and adds a nice smokey flavor; where baking alone may not have done the trick.

    • Yes, great tip! The one pictures was actually a little under ripe, but cooking it makes it perfect. I find that fully ripe peaches can often become too mushy when grilled.

Thanks for pointing that out, Lindsay!
